A user can now say "delegate this to my box" and the agent sets up the link itself: it asks with a card, the user picks the machine and the access, and the agent picks up from there. The user never types an address or reads out a pairing code.
How it works
t3_environment_link takes no address in the common case: the agent passes a hint from the user's words ("my box"), an environmentId when it knows the machine (from an @machine chip, see the next PR), or a url only when the user gave one. Optional requestedAccess suggests the access level. It needs a full-access caller and is refused for work a link started (#16695). t3_environment_unlink undoes a link.link_request card in the thread and returns pending straight away. Codex abandons a tool call after 300 s, so an approval that waited inside the call would vanish before the user got to it. A machine already linked here returns linked at once, with no card. A retry with the same clientRequestId returns the card's current outcome and records nothing new.LinkAccessPicker as Settings), defaulting to supervised or the agent's suggestion.access:write), it mints a one-use code there (POST /api/auth/pairing-token, orchestration scopes only, labelled "T3 Code link"), so linking is one click. Otherwise the dialog asks the user to paste a code from that machine's Connections.serverConfig.directEndpoints), then saved routes. PeerLinks.link with expectedEnvironmentId tries them in order. Before sending the code, it checks each address's descriptor answers as that machine, and keeps only the addresses that do. The address the browser uses isn't always one the server can reach (a phone through Connect, the laptop server over Tailscale), and this handles that case. If none answers: "This environment could not reach box at …". Picking a machine that is already linked answers Use this link and keeps its existing access.message.dispatch, queue_after_active): linked (environment id, label, access), declined, or failed with the reason. It steers a live turn or starts one when idle, so the agent continues on its own. The pairing code is never recorded: not in events, turn items, messages or logs.t3_environment_links tells the agent that a machine the user names but which isn't listed is not linked yet, and to call t3_environment_link rather than look elsewhere. Without that line, the agent in the real-client test went looking for an unrelated connector and gave up.docs/user/remote-access.md adds a short paragraph.Verification
peer/PeerLinkRequests.test.ts (12 tests) runs the laptop's real orchestrator and toolkit against a served box behind real OAuth:peer/PeerLinks.test.ts: when the first address answers as a different environment and the second as the expected one, the link goes through the second, never signs in at the first, and stores only the second. When no address answers, the error names the machine and nothing is linked.linkRequest.test.ts: the machine list (reported addresses before saved ones, once each; Connect-only machines after the saved ones at their Connect address, never this environment or a saved machine twice); hint ranking, including the user's own words ("my box", "the hetzner vps box"); the answer payload; refusing a blank code, a blank address, or a machine with no address; the outcome text.Real client (two dev servers, "laptop" and "box", Codex GPT 6.0 Astra on the laptop):
"Delegate some work to my box: add a TAX_RATE = 0.08 export to pricing.ts." The agent calls t3_environment_link with hint: "box" and ends its turn:
Choose machine… opens with box preselected from the hint:
One click on Link (this browser has an admin session on the box, so the code is minted there). The agent wakes on the notification, delegates, and reports back. pricing.ts on the box has the export:
Without a session that may create links there, the dialog asks for a code instead:

3deb9Agent-requested linking mostly works. However, if the agent changes course mid-turn, a link the user approves can be created while the request card stays stuck and the agent never hears the result. A slow peer can also delay every other link answer. The steering-restart case should be fixed before merge.

a07ae2fResolved by Julius MarmingeAstral Goat posting on behalf of @GoatXYZ.
We examined this branch at 6659e49d28. This finding is related to #16184, and it affects the new link cards.
What we found
requestNamespace (PeerLinkRequests.ts:192,236).requestNamespace is a random UUID for each MCP credential (McpSessionRegistry.ts:116).t3_environment_link after one of these events shows a second card to the user. The opposite case
ProviderSessionManager can give an MCP credential that is still valid to a replacement session. The test "protects a reused credential from a predecessor release during open" expects this.requestNamespace, and its request finds the first card.Other IDs that contain the key on this branch
Forwarded keys (PeerForwarding.ts:149) and remote delegation IDs (RemoteDelegation.ts:270,705) also contain requestNamespace.
How we reproduced it
We used credentials from the real registry with the test setup of PeerLinkRequests.test.ts:
t3_environment_link with clientRequestId "link".t3_environment_link again with "link".Result: the second call returns a different pending card, and the thread shows two cards. A new registry instance gives the same result. A new registry instance is what the server has after a restart.
Questions
Taking over this one for batch ssh-relay-remote-16. I am checking the peer-link dependencies and rebuilding only what can be verified against current main. I will leave this open if dependency or headless verification gates cannot be satisfied; nothing will be merged.
Takeover checkpoint for batch ssh-relay-remote-16: blocked on integration; no changes pushed. The local candidate preserves the original commits and adds a minimal test/implementation rebuild plus two independent full-diff review rounds (Codex GPT-6 Sol and Claude Opus 5.5). Both final reviewers found no own-layer blocker. A recoverable UX limitation remains: choosing an already revoked stored link consumes the card; Link again renews it.
The candidate passes 145 tests in 15 focused files, scoped server/client-runtime/web/mobile typechecks, and changed-file lint/format checks. The original core coverage was 27 tests in two files; overlapping assertions were consolidated before adding genuine lifecycle/authentication regressions. Mutation checks prove the accepted fixes fail on the previous implementation. Latest upstream CI still covers the original head, not this unpublished candidate.
Live Linux web proof used two isolated servers and real Codex turns: pending approval survives the requesting turn and server restart; approval/decline wakes the originating thread; existing-link reuse works; renewal preserves the named environment and selected access; manual settlement ends the pending card. No live Connect account, macOS, Windows, iOS, Android, or Electron shell verification was available.
Before (settling left a live card): Before: settled thread retains actionable environment request
After (local candidate only): After: settlement ends the environment request
Existing-link renewal offers Link again Renewal preserves explicit supervised access
Integration gate: main has released migration 64 CanonicalizeThreadPullRequestLinks; the earlier peer foundations use 64 PeerLinks and 65 PeerLinkFence, and this layer adds 66. A read-only main-ledger fixture proves the branch rejects an already-main-migrated database. The main merge also has 12 conflicts. This cannot be published as a verified main-compatible change yet.
Maintainer steps: integrate the earlier peer-link/service/client layers in order, then #16719, then this layer; preserve main migration 64 and allocate unused later IDs in the owning layers; explicitly reconcile or reset sandbox databases carrying the old peer ledger; prove upgrade of canonical PR-link rows and a second idempotent migration run. Resolve the main conflicts, rerun scoped checks and repeat pending-card/restart/renewal proof. Earlier PRs outside this batch were not changed. Obtain maintainer approval after those results.
Local candidate retained on ssh-relay-remote-16/17129-assessment at 1226115109df9f0434736dd1e8bc285dc6c3368e; reports and patch backup are retained outside the disposable worktree. Thanks @juliusmarminge for the original services and client flow. No replacement PR was opened and the original remains open.
Implementation: Codex GPT-6.1 Sol / Codex harness; tests: GPT-6 Astra; reviews: GPT-6 Sol and Claude Opus 5.5.
Supplement to the takeover checkpoint: the published branch has since rebased to 339c51c, based on the delegation branch. The preserved local candidate 1226115109df9f0434736dd1e8bc285dc6c3368e and the 145-test/live proof above predate that rebase. I compared the range changes, but have not forward-ported and fully re-reviewed those local fixes against the new upstream head. They must not be read as verification of the current published revision.
For count clarity, core coverage was 27 tests in two files, consolidated to 24 before implementation, and ended at 31 in those same two files after the genuine lifecycle/authentication regressions. The wider final candidate run was 145 tests in 15 files.
The peer-foundation migration collision and main conflicts remain the integration gate. No push, replacement publication, closure, or merge was performed.
Fixed the Macroscope finding on PeerLinks.ts (redirects forwarding the pairing code): the peer-link HTTP client now sets redirect: "manual", so nothing is sent past the origin peerOrigin checked. The client comes from #16655, so the fix and a regression test (never follows a peer's redirect with the pairing code, which failed before) live in that layer (689401d1c7).
Could be useful for Windows and WSL automatic linking when server runs on both envs so they could talk to each other more easily.
Factory catalog cross-reference — 2026-10-26. Optional future-work context: owner-card link setup and unlinking could simplify connecting environments. This later layer is not included or required by the frozen factory preview.
Factory Ideas · Pinned fork source/guide · Source release. Version-pinned community experimental source preview; full lifecycle acceptance remains open. No upstream endorsement or current-PR-head test acceptance is claimed.
