🟠 High src/linkRequest.ts:81

A saved machine's discovered Connect URL is omitted when its saved routes contain no RelayConnectionTarget, so the answer sends only the reported and saved URLs; linking then fails if the requesting server cannot reach those addresses. Append connect.httpBaseUrl after the reported and saved URLs regardless of route type.

A later provider session in the same thread that reuses a clientRequestId receives the earlier session’s card outcome instead of creating its own request, even if it targets a different machine. turnItemId scopes the key only by threadId, while scope.requestNamespace is used only for the command ID; include the caller namespace in the card ID as well.

Fixed in 289a99be5b: the card id now includes the caller's request namespace. Test reuses a clientRequestId from a later provider session and gets its own card.

A waiting link_request disappears from pendingRuntimeRequest when its originating run completes, so the shell reports completion instead of waiting_for_input while the card is still answerable. The shared liveRunIds check excludes completed runs; keep that check for secret_request but not link_request.

Fixed in e1c608d809, as suggested: a waiting link card counts after its run ends, a secret card still doesn't. Both the in-memory and SQL shells do this (the SQL read uses a new partial index, migration 064), and auto-settlement skips a thread with a waiting card. The test checks all three and fails when any one is broken.

🟠 High state/peerPairingCode.ts:30

Overlapping calls for the same environmentId both receive the same one-use code, so one PeerLinks.link request fails because the credential has already been consumed. peerPairingCodeAtom(environmentId) is shared by Atom.family, and the second refresh restarts the computation both getResult calls await; give each invocation its own mint operation or serialize calls without sharing the returned code.

Also found in 1 other location(s)

apps/web/src/state/peerPairingCode.ts:30

Overlapping mintPairingCodeOn calls for the same destination share a single one-use code. For example, submit one card, switch threads while minting is pending, then submit another card targeting the same machine. Effect 4.0.1's Atom.family returns the same atom for the same argument, and AtomRegistry.getResult subscribes to that atom's result (see the tagged packages/effect/src/reactivity/Atom.ts and AtomRegistry.ts). The second refresh restarts the shared computation, so both callers receive its next successful value. Both then send that code to PeerLinks.link, while AuthPairingLinks.ts consumes credentials only when consumed_at IS NULL; one approval consequently fails. The dialog's inFlight guard is per card, not per environment. Give each invocation its own mint computation or serialize minting without sharing the returned code.

Fixed in cedcb81280. Minting goes through an environment command in client-runtime, so each call runs its own mint and two overlapping answers never share a one-use code. Web and mobile both use it.

🟠 High chat/LinkRequestCard.tsx:395

While pairing-code minting is in progress, the access picker still lets the user change the displayed permission, but submit sends the earlier access value captured before the await. The link can therefore be created with broader access than the UI shows; disable LinkAccessPicker while busy is true.

Cancel closes the dialog without clearing its pairing code or selections, so reopening it exposes the code and restores the cancelled machine, access, and address choices. Its handler calls the parent directly instead of going through the dialog's onOpenChange reset handler; route Cancel through the same reset-and-close path.

Fixed in e3fa9845a4: Cancel, a successful submit and the dialog's own close all go through one close() that resets, keeping the busy guard.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Reset the dialog state after a successful submit.

After a successful answer, submit calls props.onOpenChange(false) directly. That call does not go through the Dialog onOpenChange wrapper, so reset() never runs. The Cancel button at Line 446 takes the same path. The dialog stays mounted inside PendingLinkRequest. If the user cancels and reopens the dialog, it keeps the old step, choice, address, and access. If an answer fails and the user closes the dialog with Cancel, the old error is still visible when the dialog reopens. Route every close through one handler that also calls reset().

8Route successful-submit and Cancel closes in the LinkRequestCard component
9through one shared close handler that calls props.onOpenChange(false) and

Fixed in e3fa9845a4, same change as the Cancel thread: every close goes through one close() that resets.

🟠 High chat/LinkRequestCard.tsx:399

When a named machine is already linked and has known URLs, the dialog still lets the user choose access, but submit() uses the use-existing branch and ignores access; confirming therefore retains the existing link's access regardless of the user's selection. Render the existing-link explanation instead of the access and pairing-code controls whenever useExisting is true.

A steering restart makes a pending link card unanswerable after the link is already made.

PeerLinkRequests.answer takes nodeId from the stored card. The card stored run.rootNodeId from the time of the request. A steering restart sets rootNodeId: nextRootNodeId on the same run (dispatchSteerIntoRun, around Line 4271). After that, this check rejects the answer with Node … is not the root of run ….

answer calls peerLinks.link before record. In this case the following happens:

  • The link and its token already exist.
  • The card stays pending, and the user sees "Could not update the link request."
  • The agent never gets the outcome notification.
  • Each retry pairs again and fails again. Only Stop or Archive closes the card.

The run is still the correct owner, so the fix is to validate the root node only when the card is created. For updates, the existing existing.runId === command.runId check is enough.

Proposed fix
diff
1 const run = projection.runs.find((candidate) => candidate.id === command.runId);
2- if (run === undefined || run.rootNodeId !== command.nodeId) {
3+ const existingItem = projection.turnItems.find((item) => item.id === command.turnItemId);
4+ // A steering restart moves the run's root node; an open card keeps the node it was asked on.
5+ if (
6+ run === undefined ||
7+ (existingItem === undefined && run.rootNodeId !== command.nodeId) ||
8+ (existingItem !== undefined && existingItem.nodeId !== command.nodeId)
9+ ) {

You can also check the card's run and node in PeerLinkRequests.answer before you call peerLinks.link. Then a record that would fail cannot leave an orphaned link.

J

Fixed in 4caaacab1b. The root node is checked only when a card is created; an update keeps the card's own node, provider thread and turn. Test steers the run mid-request and answers the card; it fails with the old check.

C
coderabbitaiBot6d ago

@juliusmarminge Thanks. The supplied code checks the current root node only when creating a card. Updates retain the card’s node, provider thread, and provider turn, while preserving the run ownership check. This addresses the steering-restart failure.

Fixed in 67a31523fd. An expired link counts as no link, both for the request shortcut (so a card is shown and the user can link again) and for the use-existing answer. Test moves the clock past expiry; it fails without the check.

With a remote --server, makeDirectory creates options.projectRoot only on the machine running this script, so the server still rejects the turn when its workspace root is missing. The project.create mutation also leaves createWorkspaceRootIfMissing false, and existing projects skip that mutation; create the root through the server-side service for both cases.

Fixed in 4caaacab1b. A new card needs a run that is still blocking and that Stop hasn't reached (the same check delegated-task creation uses); answers to existing cards are still accepted. Tests cover the Stop race and the live-run rule; both fail without it.

A relative --project-root such as ./scratch is not matched to the normalized workspaceRoot stored by the server, so the next run attempts a duplicate project.create and aborts the default three-run measurement without producing a report. Normalize the root before lookup and project creation, or reuse the created project ID across runs.

usableLink treats an unexpired legacy link with fenced !== 1 as usable, so request returns linked and use-existing records success even though PeerLinks.resolve rejects that link; the user never gets a pairing card to repair it. Apply the same fence eligibility check as PeerLinks.resolve when filtering links.

A retry with an existing clientRequestId can return linked for input.environmentId instead of the card's recorded outcome, leaving a pending card answerable or hiding a decline/cancellation; it can also report machine A when the card approved a different machine. The linked-environment shortcut runs before readCard; resolve the existing request first and apply the shortcut only when no card exists.
