perf(mobile): ThreadFeed compiles with the React Compiler#21268
ThreadFeed.tsx and use-thread-selection.ts were still in KNOWN_BAILOUTS, so the compiler skipped both and the feed kept 40 manual useMemo/useCallbacks.
ThreadFeed
- Every "ref read during render" came from
props.listRefinside render props. The component now destructureslistRefand the two callbacks its handlers call. - The attachment opener threw inside
try/finally. It now reads the asset command'sAsyncResult, settles the download withsettlePromise, and clearsopeningin onefinishpath. Aborts still skip the alert. - With the file compiling, the component's manual
useMemo/useCallbackwrappers are removed. The bodies are unchanged.
use-thread-selection
- The last complete route params lived in a ref read during render, used when a closing sheet drops the params. They are now previous-value state that is set during render.
- The pending creation is compared by message and outcome, not identity.
pendingCreationis rebuilt every render, so an identity check would have set state on every render once the hook compiled.
Both files leave KNOWN_BAILOUTS, with no layout-effect ref syncs added. ThreadFeed's render-time clock (isFreshTimestamp) lives in a module function called from renderItem, which runs per row, so it isn't frozen in a cache.
Renders on the device
Pixel 9 API 36 emulator, median of 3 runs, same base (layer 10) and device. As with the earlier compile layers, compiling these files does not change renders per commit:
| Scenario | Renders per commit before | After | Commits (before / after) |
|---|---|---|---|
| The open thread streams | 40 | 41 | 36 / 42 |
| Typing in the composer | 33 | 36 | 28 / 32 |
| Another thread streams while on a different thread | 89 (layer 9) | 46 | โ / 8 |
The remaining stream renders are the list cells (Container2) and markdown hosts, which LegendList drives.
On Android I opened a thread, scrolled up through a long reply, used jump-to-end, and opened the Git sheet.

Verdict: Needs Human Approval
Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval โ This production mobile refactor enables React Compiler processing while changing memoization, callback identity, attachment error handling, and thread-selection state. An unresolved comment identifies likely loss of work-group scroll positions because the map is recreated on each render, so the runtime behavior needs human review.

๐ Walkthrough
The thread-selection hook retains the last complete route pair and computes selection results directly. ThreadFeed removes memoization from render calculations and callbacks. Attachment sharing now handles settled errors and resets opening state when the active request finishes.

Preserve per-thread scroll-position storage.
workGroupScrollPositions is recreated directly during render, but work-group rows use this map across renders. This can lose saved positions during streaming renders and does not reset predictably when feedThreadKey changes.
Keep the map in state and replace it when the thread key changes.
