The React Compiler skipped the composer editor and its context attachment, both video preview modals, the new connection sheet, Add project, and five shared state modules.

FileWas skipped forFix
ComposerEditor, ComposerContextAttachment, VideoPreviewModal.ios, ConnectionsNewRouteScreen, AddProjectScreen, lib/attachmentDocument, state/composer-attachment-uploads, state/mediaActionstry/finally, try without catch, throw inside trythe guarded body is an async function, with .catch()/.finally() chained; same semantics
VideoPreviewModal (Android)latest-attachment ref written during renderwritten in a layout effect, which runs before the passive effect that reads it
state/queries, state/use-vcs-action-statemanual memo deps the compiler couldn't preservemanual memo removed

Frozen-clock fix in useGitActionProgress. The "Running for Ns" label read Date.now() during render, and a ref-held interval forced re-renders. Compiled, the label would be cached on the start timestamp and stop counting. The clock is now state, which the interval advances while an action runs.

Also removed an unused ThreadId import from queries.ts; lint only reports it now that the file compiles.

Manual useMemo/useCallback/memo are removed from every file listed. KNOWN_BAILOUTS: 45 → 34.

Verified on device (Pixel 9 API 36 emulator, isolated seeded server):

  • Add environment: submitted a fresh pairing link (connected, back on Home).
  • Add project: created compiler-smoke from New project. It landed in the sandbox .t3/projects and the app showed the "created without a first commit" notice, then opened the new thread draft.
  • Composer: typed into the new-thread composer.
  • No red box, and no useMemoCache or React errors in the Metro log.
  • Not exercised: attachment upload, paste-as-context, and video playback, which need media on the emulator. Git action progress needs a running git action.

Renders while opening the new-thread sheet (measure-renders --route /new, median of 3, same base and device):

RouteBeforeAfter
/new20752075

No measurable change.

Review follow-up

  • Attachment share, the composer context paste, the attachment document share and the iOS video presentation use settlePromise, and file leases are released inline. Connection pairing and Add Project await commands directly.
  • attachmentRef became a useEffectEvent loader.
  • On device: pairing via the Add environment sheet submits, resets and navigates back, and the new connection shows as Connected.

Pairing sheet before submit

Device: Pixel 9 API 36 emulator on nucbox-1, client rebuilt from perf/mobile-compile-8 (the old one lacked the T3FoldPosture native view), Metro and an isolated seeded server on cups.

Approvability

Verdict: Approved at e812599

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a bounded mobile React Compiler migration that removes manual memoization and preserves existing attachment, connection, project, query, and media workflows. It includes a small elapsed-time label fix, with no new capability, schema change, product-default change, or static-analysis suppression.

📝 Walkthrough

The mobile changes remove selected memoization, revise asynchronous result and cleanup handling, and update VCS elapsed-time state. The compiler coverage test removes bailout entries for files no longer listed as compiler skips.

Changes: Mobile state and rendering updates

Layer / File(s)Summary
Composer and attachment lifecycle
apps/mobile/src/components/ComposerContextAttachment.tsx, apps/mobile/src/components/ComposerEditor.tsx, apps/mobile/src/components/VideoPreviewModal*.tsx, apps/mobile/src/lib/attachmentDocument.ts, apps/mobile/src/state/composer-attachment-uploads.ts, apps/mobile/src/state/mediaActions.ts
Composer and attachment values are computed directly during render. Sharing, importing, upload preparation, and video presentation use settled results to handle failures and cleanup. Video attachment loading uses useEffectEvent instead of a mutable ref.
Connection and project screens
apps/mobile/src/features/connection/ConnectionsNewRouteScreen.tsx, apps/mobile/src/features/projects/AddProjectScreen.tsx
Screen handlers and derived values are no longer memoized. Project submission clears its loading state on the described command-failure and project-wait paths. A rejected connection call and an unexpected thrown project-submission error do not receive the former unconditional cleanup.
Query and progress state
apps/mobile/src/state/queries.ts, apps/mobile/src/state/use-vcs-action-state.ts, apps/mobile/src/reactCompilerCoverage.test.ts
Query values and pagination callbacks are created directly. VCS elapsed time uses state updated every second. The compiler coverage allowlist removes entries for the changed files.

Re-rendering the composer can release attachment files that undo still needs, so undoing a text change may fail to restore attached context. Keep the context history scoped to the draft before merging.

Keep context history scoped to draftKey.

ComposerEditor creates a new context history on every render. The effect then disposes the previous history when its identity changes. That releases retained attachment files before native text undo can restore them. Memoize the history by draftKey.
