Problem

Each WebSocket connection constructs separate maintenance, scanning, and discovery services. Concurrent clients can bypass the shared maintenance guard and duplicate caches.

Change

Build shared RPC handlers at server route scope, share the runtime scanner with the importer, and use the existing application source-control registry.

Rebuilt from @t3dotgg’s #15040, keeping this layer to one concern. Six original claims are already fixed on the pinned main, including configured-home session forking. Those implementations are preserved.

Stack: #21969 → #21970 → #21971 → #21972 → #21974 → #21975 → #21976

Scope and approval

Maintainer takeover authorized for batch scheduler-tasks-05. Layer 5 of seven; coordinator owns landing and approval decisions. This is a focused correction to existing behavior.

Verification

WS and maintenance suites: 32 passed. Three independently scoped RpcTest clients use the exported production RPC handler layer: a held update blocks a second and third client, including after disconnecting the second, and starts one process. Scanner and registry sharing were traced through production composition; sockets and the full upgrade/auth graph were not exercised.

Fresh post-fix verification: workflow/transcript 8, selected ACP 11, complete launch suite 87: 106 distinct passes, independently reproduced by Opus. Four previously failing regressions now pass. Earlier unaffected checks are reused; the historical 422 count is not a fresh run. Full server TS7 found zero errors and one fixture warning (exit 2); the warning was corrected and its scoped fixture/import check passed with zero warnings. Targeted lint and diff checks pass.

R5 Opus and Sol cleared all seven layers and the cumulative diff. Four completed parallel rounds: R1, R3, R4, R5; R2 was cancelled before verdict. Current head-specific before/after evidence and limits.

This layer: 4b4b408, based on d357b9d. CI will receive one delayed check; unfinished checks are handed to the coordinator.

Headless Linux, Node 24. Native Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, packaged Electron, real account-based provider execution, and relay/tunnel connections were not verified. No UI behavior changed.

Implementation: Codex gpt-6.1-sol; tests: Codex gpt-6-astra; review: Claude claude-opus-5-5 and Codex gpt-6-sol, through T3 Code.

Approvability

Verdict: Approved at 9b701f0

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a bounded server wiring fix that shares existing maintenance, discovery, and scanning services across WebSocket clients without changing APIs, schemas, defaults, or production infrastructure. The cross-client lock and lifetime behavior is explicitly tested, while the added test file itself has no runtime impact.

📝 Walkthrough

The server now handles provider updates, source-control discovery, and agent-session scans through shared WebSocket RPC handlers. Connections merge the shared RPC context. An integration test checks provider-update locking across clients. The production layer also changes how it provides the agent-session scanner.

Changes: Shared WebSocket RPC

Layer / File(s)Summary
Provide the scanner in the production layer
apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/runtimeLayer.ts
AgentSessionScanner.layer is removed from the dependencies provided directly to AgentSessionImporter.layer. The production layer provides it with Layer.provideMerge.
Build and merge shared RPC handlers
apps/server/src/ws.ts, apps/server/src/ws.test.ts
Provider updates, source-control discovery, and agent-session scans move to shared RPC handlers. The server merges the shared context into each connection. The integration test checks that concurrent provider updates from other clients fail while an update is running, including after a client disconnects.

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 4b4b4

Provider updates share one lock across WebSocket clients, and scanner results are filtered to the requested workspace. No current behavior requires broader service sharing, so no actionable merge risk was established.

Compose the shared services in the application layer.

layerSharedConnectionRpc currently constructs ProviderMaintenanceRunner and SourceControlDiscovery inside ws.ts. This makes the WebSocket transport own resources that the application must share. Move both layers to runtimeLayer.layerProduction and expose them with Layer.provideMerge. Then let layerSharedConnectionRpc consume the services from its environment. A future MCP or scheduled-task consumer would otherwise create a separate coordinator and update lock.

Verified the shared-service placement nitpick against the current consumers: ProviderMaintenanceRunner and SourceControlDiscovery are used only by ws.ts, whose shared layer is built once per server. The cross-client maintenance test verifies one coordinator and a shared update lock. Moving them for hypothetical future MCP/scheduled consumers adds no current behavior, so I am leaving this composition focused. Both R5 reviewers found no blocker.
