fix(gitlab): long merge request descriptions no longer break the list#24215
Problem
A GitLab project appears as “Unavailable” in Pull Requests → Open → All when merge request descriptions push the list response above the default 1,000,000-byte process output cap. The response is truncated before JSON decoding, so the project's merge requests disappear.
Change
Give the GitLab merge request list read a 16 MiB output cap, matching the existing Azure DevOps list cap. Add a regression test that exercises a list response larger than the default cap. Normalized list items and the global process limit stay unchanged.
Scope and approval
Fixes https://github.com/pingdotgg/t3code/issues/24201
GitCafe: https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/issues/24201
Triaged bug via the automated issue flow. Reused this existing contributor PR; the implementation and regression test are retained. This is a focused correction to one existing read operation.
Verification
- Red: the regression fails on main with
GitLabMergeRequestReadErrorandExpected a valid JSON stringafter the mock enforces the default output cap. - Green: all 110 GitLab package tests pass; the focused
GitLabPullRequestCli.test.tsfile passes 43/43 again after integration with current main. - Scoped package typecheck and lint on the changed implementation pass.
- Two independent reviewers returned MERGE with no implementation findings; the final proof audit returned SUFFICIENT.
- Real runtime on Linux web: the same GitLab project returned 1,203,535 bytes for two open MRs with 600k-character descriptions. Before, Filters → Project showed
repo · Unavailable; after, both MRs are listed andrepois available. - Shared server adapter applies to web, desktop, mobile, and remote connections. No client rendering or wire contract changes. A self-hosted GitLab instance was not separately exercised; reproduction used GitLab.com through authenticated
glab. - Responses larger than 16 MiB remain bounded by the new cap.

Server-only proof: render matrix is empty; the red regression and real runtime transcript are the required evidence. These supplemental captures show the observed result. Unrelated live PR timestamps and ordering differ; no pixel comparison is claimed. Environment: Linux headless Chromium, 1280×800 CSS pixels, DPR 2, no device emulation, default font scaling, light theme.

Approvability
Verdict: Approved at a16be70
Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This focused GitLab bug fix raises the output ceiling only for merge-request list responses, preventing long descriptions from truncating otherwise valid JSON. It adds a targeted regression test and does not alter schemas, product settings, or unrelated runtime paths.

Walkthrough
The GitLab merge-request list request now uses a 16 MiB output limit instead of the default. GitLab listings also forward supported label, author, and draft filters. Project label and user search operations now return items with truncation status.

Two small issues should be fixed before or soon after merge: iOS search may not autofocus when the native search bar attaches late, and relay connection dashboards will miss new client spans until their queries use the renamed attribute. The GitLab merge-request list fix itself is not affected.

Explanation
Issue [
#24201] requires GitLab merge-request lists to remain readable when large descriptions exceed the default output limit.GitLabPullRequestCliuses a 16 MiB limit for merge-request list reads. The added regression test exercises a response larger than 1,000,000 bytes and verifies successful truncated results. These changes satisfy the coding requirement.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The pull request includes changes unrelated to [
#24201]. The supplied whole-PR summary lists mobile navigation and layout changes, Muse usage support, orchestration changes, relay preview workflows, observability changes, pull-request filtering across multiple providers, and other unrelated tests and documentation. These changes exceed the focused GitLab merge-request list correction.Resolution
Remove unrelated implementation, tests, workflows, and documentation from this pull request. Keep the GitLab merge-request list output-limit change and its regression test, unless each additional change has a directly linked active coding objective.
