Problem

Models supplied by a project's opencode.jsonc were visible to OpenCode 2 but absent from T3's project model picker. With the same OpenCode instance, searching for the fixture model in project A returned no result, even though opencode models in A listed it.

Change

Read settled OpenCode 2 model catalogs by project directory and carry differing catalogs through the existing workspace snapshots. Web and mobile composers, mobile new-task and hidden-model views, and project-scoped agent catalog validation resolve the same directory-specific models. Other projects retain the machine catalog.

Model-only discovery shares an in-flight cache, avoids unrelated skills/commands scans, and retries unreadable or unsettled catalogs after 30 seconds. Mobile refresh retries after a failed connection. The optional wire field preserves compatibility with older peers.

Scope and approval

Fixes https://github.com/pingdotgg/t3code/issues/24459

GitCafe: https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/issues/24459

Triaged bug via the automated issue flow. This fixes project catalog discovery and its consumers; aggregate Settings project defaults and scheduled-task pickers retain their existing global catalogs.

Verification

  • Red regression failed on main because the project-only model was absent. After integrating main, 92 tests passed across OpenCode driver, ProviderRegistry, OrchestratorMcpService, client-runtime providerSkills, and the mobile refresh hook. Subsequent bot fixes passed the 38-test registry file and mobile reconnect test, with server/mobile typechecks and changed-file lint passing.
  • Prior focused validation: all 151 provider-opencode tests passed; mobile thread tests (184) and the reconnect hook passed. Scoped server, contracts, provider, client-runtime, web and mobile typechecks passed; changed-file lint had no new findings.
  • Two independent final reviews returned MERGE for 7a347b85fe. Main was subsequently integrated as d207a5062b; the scoped checks above were rerun on that head.
  • Bot follow-up rejects late catalogs from retired provider instances and refreshes mobile project models once per connection. Both regressions failed before their fixes. CI passed 29/29 on the preceding head; the bot-fix head requires fresh CI and review.

Evidence

Real web dev server with OpenCode 2.1.4 and a synthetic project-local provider; no inference request was submitted. Before is eea9895368, after is 7a347b85fe, before the main integration. Chromium, DPR 2, CSS viewports 1440×900 and 390×844, light/dark. Desktop PNG output is scaled by Preview to 1280×800.

Evidence index: all four web pairs, timestamped steps, differences, exact/threshold diffs and row dispositions. Public archive with capture drivers, fixture and transcripts. Proof matrix.

Independent proof audit confirms bounded warm-web discovery, selection/reopen and A→B→A isolation in all four variants. It does not certify the complete matrix: 2 deterministic rows verified, 6 partial, 7 unverified. Six still triplets are provisional rather than pixel-identical. Visible differences include the target row, revision captions and selection-dependent controls; exploratory clips also differ in sidebar state. No claim that nothing else changed.

Pending proof: native iOS new-task/existing-thread and hide/unhide recordings; real worktree/existing-thread/keybinding/lock paths; complete model-option controls; supplemental cache branches and scoped delegate/create validation replays. Evidence does not certify the later main-integration revision. CI and bot review remain pending; the bugfix handoff label is withheld until those gates pass.

Native verification attempted a current EAS simulator build. The first failed because GhosttyKit supplies arm64 simulator support while Xcode requested arm64+x86_64. An arm64 retry was still compiling when the capture budget ended and is retained for reuse. No simulator was allocated or native capture produced. Native build-attempt report and diagnostics. Native rows V4–V6 remain unverified.

Operational friction and corrected assumptions.

Implemented with Claude Opus 5.5 through Claude Code; led and independently reviewed with GPT-6.1-Sol through Codex.

Approvability

Verdict: Needs Human Approval

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This PR adds project-scoped OpenCode model discovery across the mobile/web clients, provider registry, orchestration layer, contracts, and driver, with new caching and workspace-read behavior. Unresolved comments identify paths where the picker and send/availability checks can disagree and where project lookup failures may be silently masked.

Walkthrough

The change adds working-directory-specific model catalogs to provider workspace snapshots. The provider registry and MCP service load providers for a thread’s workspace. Web and mobile thread flows use providers resolved for the selected project.

Changes: Project-scoped model catalogs

Layer / File(s)Summary
Workspace model catalog loading
packages/contracts/src/server.ts, packages/provider-core/src/server/driver.ts, packages/provider-opencode/src/server/*
Provider contracts now represent workspace model catalogs. The OpenCode driver loads and caches settled catalogs by directory, then adds differing catalogs to workspace snapshots. Tests cover project catalogs, retries, and unsettled reads.
Provider registry workspace resolution
apps/server/src/provider/ProviderRegistry.ts, apps/server/src/provider/ProviderRegistry.test.ts, apps/server/src/provider/*test*, apps/server/src/provider/testUtils/*
The registry reads workspace models, updates workspace snapshots, and resolves providers for a cwd. Tests cover lookup behavior, concurrent scans, and instance filtering.
Thread-context provider loading
apps/server/src/mcp/OrchestratorMcpService.ts, apps/server/src/mcp/OrchestratorMcpService.test.ts
MCP operations load providers using the parent thread’s workspace context. Targeted operations can restrict the provider lookup to one instance.
Client model selection and refresh
apps/mobile/src/features/threads/*, apps/mobile/vite.config.ts, apps/web/src/components/ChatView.tsx, packages/client-runtime/src/providerSkills*
Mobile and web thread flows resolve providers for the project cwd. Mobile also refreshes project models when the environment runtime is connected.

Project models may be missing when a project lookup fails, but the machine catalog remains available. The mobile picker’s project-only OpenCode selections are not blocked by the reported send gate; merging is reasonable with awareness of the fallback.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description includes all required sections, explains the problem and implementation, links the triaged issue, documents focused verification, provides UI evidence, and clearly identifies pending checks and unverified scenarios.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #24459 requires project-defined OpenCode models to appear in the picker for the matching project and requires other projects to keep the machine catalog. The supplied change summary reports directory-specific OpenCode 2 catalog reads, workspace snapshot propagation, and picker updates for web and mobile. Current resolveProvidersForCwd selects models only from a workspace snapshot whose cwd exactly matches the requested directory. It returns the original providers when no match exists. ProviderRegistry.getProvidersForCwd and the OpenCode modelsForCwd path supply these snapshots. Tests cover project discovery, catalog retries, provider filtering, workspace resolution, picker consumers, and mobile reconnect refresh. The optional wire field preserves older peers. The reported unverified native and visual checks do not add coding requirements to issue #24459.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes stay within issue #24459. OpenCode catalog settlement, per-directory caching, retry handling, workspace snapshot fields, and registry methods support project model discovery. Web and mobile picker changes consume the project-specific catalog. Mobile reconnect refresh supports recovery after server snapshots are lost. Orchestrator project-scoped catalog validation uses the same directory-specific model data. Tests and provider mocks support these changes. The supplied scope states that aggregate Settings project defaults and scheduled-task pickers retain their global catalogs. No demonstrated change lacks a connection to the project catalog objective.

  • fix(server): a rebuilt provider ignores its retired instance's project catalogba64f05
  • fix(mobile): a new task rescans its project's models after reconnecting434df33

Verified the four findings against the source.

  • Retired-provider race: fixed in ba64f05039. A Deferred-controlled regression swaps the provider while its catalog read is held open and checks that the retired model is neither returned nor published. It failed before the identity check and passes after.
  • Mobile reconnect refresh: fixed in 434df33eef. Disconnect clears the request key because server restarts discard workspace snapshots. The reconnect regression failed before the fix and passes after.
  • Mobile send gate: no change. isModelSelectionUnavailable checks catalog membership only for Antigravity; OpenCode checks provider availability and project enablement, so the project-only model is not rejected by this gate.
  • MCP project-read errors: retained the machine-catalog fallback. Project discovery augments the previously machine-wide catalog; making that optional lookup fail the entire operation would regress existing calls. Operations that require the project still use requireProject and surface their existing errors.

Registry tests: 38 passed. Mobile reconnect test: passed. Server/mobile typechecks and changed-file lint passed. Fresh CI and review on the new head remain pending; bugfix remains withheld. Native proof remains unverified as documented in the PR.
