Keep the modifier-required send chord out of menu selection.

When startNewThreadsInBackground is on and sendShortcut is mod-enter, Ctrl+Enter resolves to "background". If a suggestion menu is open, that intent equals plainSendIntent. Line 211 then selects the highlighted suggestion instead of sending the draft. The previous foreground-only condition let this send chord through. Restrict default-intent menu selection to an unmodified Enter or Tab so the configured send chord still submits.

Not changing this. With the setting on, the user's send chord in a new thread is now the plain send. The open menu takes the plain send on every route, so this matches existing threads on main.

On an existing thread with the mod-enter shortcut, Ctrl+Enter matches no binding. composer.sendAlternate only applies while a turn runs, and shortcutForContext moves its chord to Mod+Shift+Enter when the shortcut requires a modifier (apps/web/src/keybindings.ts:114). So it falls through to return defaultIntent (apps/web/src/composer-logic.ts:111), and the menu check at useComposerCommandKey.ts:211 selects the item. Plain Enter with mod-enter also selects the item, because it resolves to null.

Only selecting on unmodified Enter or Tab would also change how existing threads behave, which is outside this PR. With the setting on, Mod+Alt+Enter still bypasses the menu and opens the thread.

@StivenKN You're right. I incorrectly assumed that the configured send chord must bypass an open menu.

The menu takes precedence for the default send intent, regardless of whether that chord requires a modifier. Using plainSendIntent preserves that behavior when the setting changes the default to "background". My proposed restriction would also change existing-thread behavior.

I withdraw the finding. No change is needed here.

Document the prompt-specific shortcut behavior.

With mod-enter-multiline enabled, mod+Enter can send a multiline prompt in the background instead of opening the thread. Document mod+Alt+Enter as the shortcut that opens the thread for multiline prompts, while mod+Enter opens it for single-line prompts.

Clarified in 64ffce49f3. The paragraph now says that when the send shortcut requires mod+Enter, including for a multiline prompt, mod+Enter starts the thread in the background, so use mod+Alt+Enter. The single-line case is covered by the sentence before it.

C
coderabbitaiBot15h ago

@StivenKN The updated paragraph addresses the finding. It states the multiline exception and directs users to mod+Alt+Enter to open the thread. The preceding sentence covers the single-line case. No further change is needed.
