Right: toasts skip "Stopped", a second request in the same run, and anything while the window is unfocused, so muting the region dropped those for good. Reverted in ac463d5fbe. With in-app notifications on, a completion is now heard twice (toast plus region) rather than risk losing one; the PR description notes it.

Clear the retained text after a delay.
This region keeps its last announcement indefinitely. NVDA can read it again when a dialog closes. Same fix, 4ecebd3019: ThreadActivityAnnouncer uses useLiveRegion too. Switching threads or taking a new baseline clears the text and cancels the pending clear.
@shivamhwp Thanks for the fix in 4ecebd3019. ThreadActivityAnnouncer now uses useLiveRegion and calls clear() when the thread is unset or a new baseline is established. This addresses the finding.

Clear the live-region text after a delay so a screen reader does not re-read stale announcements.
The region keeps its last announcement indefinitely. The PR comments report that NVDA reads the retained text again when a dialog closes. This happens while the thread is still working. The user then hears an outdated "Done" or "Needs approval" as if it were new.
Schedule a clear after the announcement has had time to be spoken. Cancel the pending clear when a newer announcement arrives. Cancel it on unmount. The trailing-space write at Line 62 still handles back-to-back identical text.
ThreadActivityAnnouncer.tsx Line 51 has the same retention behavior. Apply the same fix there.

Verify the result with NVDA after you change it. The clear delay must be long enough for slow speech rates.
Based on learnings: "recommend verifying behavior with real screen readers (e.g., NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver) rather than relying solely on automated a11y linting." and the retained-text re-announcement guidance about clearing and restoring in a later task.

Fixed in 4ecebd3019. Both regions now go through useLiveRegion, which clears the text 7 s after each announcement. A newer announcement restarts the timer, and unmounting cancels it. Clearing doesn't cut off speech that has already started, and an empty region still lets the next identical text count as new.
@shivamhwp Thanks for the fix in 4ecebd3019. Using useLiveRegion for both regions addresses the retained-text issue, timer reset, and unmount cleanup.
The remaining check is NVDA behavior after a dialog closes, including at slow speech rates.

Keep a live region for uncovered non-route statuses.
When a non-route thread changes to working, waiting, or limited, the plain label gives screen readers no status update. Add a live region only for those statuses. The separate Woke branch already retains its own region, and approval, input, and terminal statuses remain covered by the dedicated announcers.

Leaving this as is on purpose. A background thread's ending or request is what needs to reach a screen reader, and BackgroundThreadAnnouncer covers those. Speaking 'Working' for every background thread would be noise, and before this PR it only happened with the sidebar open (a collapsed sidebar is inert). The open thread still says 'Working' through its own announcer.
@shivamhwp Understood. I withdraw this finding. Background announcements intentionally cover requests and run endings, not every status change. Adding row-level live regions would add noise and make announcements depend on whether the sidebar is open. The open thread retains its own announcer. No change is needed here.
π I couldn't check this conversation for new learnings, so no new learning was saved.

Thought previews can change every few seconds during a busy run, so adding a live region only to the preview can cause excessive screen-reader announcements. Full thoughts remain accessible in the expanded work group through ReasoningTraceContent. Treat live work announcements as a timeline-wide accessibility design decision rather than requiring an isolated live region on thought previews.
