fix(server): refresh pull request panels after background updates#23341
Problem
An open pull request detail panel can keep showing a held title or check state after an automatic read has caused the server to learn newer data. In the isolated Linux web app, the baseline provider returned a changed title while the visible panel retained the original heading until another read.
Change
Notify existing pull request refresh subscribers when a held detail's background refresh discovers changed content. Ignore observedAt and short-circuit identical values so unchanged reads stay quiet. Invalidate the matching checks cache before notifying readers so their next checks read gets current data. The evidence preload rejects writes and unhandled GitCafe API paths. No wire contracts or refresh cadence change. Include the focused regressions and the reproducible provider fixture/seeding source required by the triage evidence workflow.
Scope and approval
Fixes #8640
Triaged bug via the automated issue flow; GitCafe issue #8640. One shared server cache path; clients use the existing environment refresh subscription. No new entry point, provider runtime capability, persisted product state, or documentation change.
Verification
- Failing baseline title-notification regression: expected changed title, received undefined; the server had already learned the changed title.
- Final service suite: 85/85 passed, including title delivery, CI changes without
updatedAtchanging, unchanged-read silence, and fresh checks after a notice. The checks-cache regression failed before the correction with pending instead of success. - Server typecheck passed. Targeted lint passed with one existing
no-empty-patternwarning outside the diff; scoped Knip andgit diff --checkpassed. An isolated preload probe rejected writes and unknown API paths with no real network calls. - All eight required CI checks passed on 5d665d0. CodeRabbit reports no actionable findings. Macroscope requires human approval for the Knip entry registering the preload.
- Primary client check showed the changed heading and passing checks. Three review rounds found no code blocker; final reviewers require maintainer acceptance of the evidence gaps below. Proof audit: INSUFFICIENT, not merge-ready.
Captures remain at the earlier fixed revision shown below; subsequent checks-cache invalidation and fixture boundary changes have focused test/probe proof but no new runtime capture.
Evidence contains an unrelated provider-update indicator, a running-icon phase difference, and small rendering differences. The update toast obscured part of the automatic title recording; it was dismissed only after the passive window. The clean endpoint combines the title update and interaction-assisted CI completion. The list title stays original because the list fixture is fixed at its original value.
Linux Chromium 154, desktop user agent, no device emulation, default font scaling, light theme, measured 1440×900 CSS viewport, DPR 2. Recordings are 2880×1800; snapshot PNGs unexpectedly measure 1280×800. Fixed fixture timestamps; production clock and five-minute interval unchanged. Both revisions normalize raw provider merge.conflicts=clean to accepted unknown. Activity shows a fixture-response error throughout; no activity claim is made. This tests the real server/RPC/client with a provider-response fixture, not live-host parity.
Steps and timing: baseline recording starts 03:02:37 UTC; title staged 03:02:38; changed provider response 03:03:41; original heading remains at 03:04:14 without restart/disconnect. Fixed recording starts 03:03:11; title staged 03:03:50; provider changed 03:07:46–47; heading updated by 03:08:04 without interaction. CI success staged 03:08:11 with unchanged updatedAt; passive window still showed Running. Toast dismissal at 03:13:20 resumed reads; checks Passed by 03:13:24. No manual Refresh was used.

Before recording: before.mp4
After recording: after-continuous.mp4
The baseline timing recording has Checks collapsed; its expanded still was taken afterward. These recordings establish the primary heading result, not a perfectly matched full-surface interaction matrix.
| Fixture | Status |
|---|---|
| F1 primary detail heading | Automatic title propagation observed before/after; other title compositions unverified. |
| F2 CI without timestamp change | Service regression passes; after interaction-assisted only, baseline CI transition and passive proof missing. |
| F3 unchanged refresh counts | Service regression passes; runtime counters and two quiet reads missing. |
| F4–F8 auxiliary consumers, boundaries, recovery, capabilities, broadcast neighbors | Unverified. |
| F9 width/theme | Only desktop light attempted; dark and both narrow combinations missing, PNG dimensions differ. |
| F10 clients/connections/providers | Linux local web only; desktop, native mobile, hosted web, remote/relay/tunnel, multi-environment and live-provider parity unverified. |

Approvability
Verdict: Needs Human Approval
Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — The production change is a focused cache-refresh bug fix with targeted regression coverage and no schema or product-default changes. Human review is required because the PR adds a Knip configuration entry that suppresses a static-analysis unused-file diagnostic for the test preload.

Issue
#8640requires an open pull-request panel to show newer title and check data after an automatic refresh without manual refresh.PullRequestServicecompares the background-refreshed held value while ignoringobservedAt, publishes existing refresh notifications only for changed content, and invalidates the checks cache before notification. The added service tests cover changed titles, check changes with unchangedupdatedAt, updated checks after notification, and silence for unchanged reads. The implementation does not change the refresh cadence or wire contracts. The reported runtime proof gaps do not establish a missing coding requirement.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes stay within issue
#8640. The service change and regression tests implement the required refresh behavior. The provider fixture, seed script, preload wrapper, request logging, and Knip entry support the deterministic reproduction and verification workflow. No unrelated product capability, persisted product state, new user entry point, or documentation change is shown.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description includes all required sections. It clearly explains the problem, change, linked issue and scope, detailed verification results, known evidence gaps, and agent details. The scope section identifies the triaged issue but does not include a direct maintainer approval comment; this is a minor completeness gap because the description otherwise provides the required context.

Addressed both CodeRabbit findings in b9a75f3 and 5d665d0. Changed detail now invalidates its checks cache before notifying readers. The fixture rejects non-GET requests and unknown GitCafe API paths.
Verification: 85/85 service tests passed, including the new checks-cache regression; server typecheck passed. Scoped lint has only the existing warning at test line 1429. An isolated fixture probe confirmed known reads, rejected writes and unknown paths, and made no real network calls. Existing runtime evidence limitations remain unchanged.
