🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Add a timeout to the history worker call.

history waits on spawner.string(...) with no time limit. Rollback calls it through sessionMessageIds (Line 9563 and Line 9599). Rollback also calls forkSession through history when environment is set. Rollback runs these calls after it closes the live query at Line 9522. If the worker stalls, for example on a slow or locked transcript read, rollbackThread never returns, and the provider thread stays blocked.

The nearby lifecycle code bounds its waits. closeLiveQueryForNativeThread uses a 10 s limit, and stop requests use 2 s and 15 s limits. The initial lookup at Line 9563 already turns a ClaudeAgentSdkQueryRunnerError into the old cursor fallback. If a timeout fails with that error, a hung lookup falls back the same way. A hung fork or fork-head lookup then fails the rollback instead of blocking it.

✅ Confirmed as addressed by @juliusmarminge

J

Fixed in 2e9c8c8: both worker operations now have a 30-second Effect timeout with the actual history method preserved in ClaudeAgentSdkQueryRunnerError. Initial discovery retains the existing fallback; fork/post-fork validation fails before rollback publication. The spawner owns scoped child cleanup. All 310 focused tests, server typecheck and scoped lint/format pass. A fresh full review round found no substantive defects.

@juliusmarminge Thanks. The supplied code confirms that the shared history helper bounds both worker operations with a 30-second timeout and preserves the history method in the error. Initial discovery retains its fallback. Fork and post-fork validation failures stop rollback before publication. This addresses the finding.

🟠 High Adapters/ClaudeAdapterV2.ts:805

When CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR is relative, sessionMessageIds reads from the server process's working directory instead of the session's home, so it can miss the compacted history and persist the still-hidden resume cursor during rollback. The history worker is spawned without a cwd; pass the session dir through to it and use that as the worker's cwd.

Fixed in b2996ac. The shared worker helper now uses the supplied session dir as its cwd, matching the query process for discovery, recovery fork, recovered-head lookup and saved-source native forks. The existing compacted case now uses a relative Claude home: it failed before this fix (309/310 pass), then all 310 pass. Absolute-home control and real CLI loopback proof with both absolute and relative homes pass. Both fresh full reviews found no substantive defect.
