fix(contracts): preserve authoritative URLs on pull request links#21575
Stored pull-request display URLs can be synthesized by older agent tools. They cannot reliably identify a project on a GitLab installation with a URL prefix.
Add optional repositoryWebUrl metadata to linked and watch-created pull requests, preserving it through sync, compact events, projection rebuild, and compaction. Existing records and clients remain compatible. The dependent GitLab fix is #21576.
Rebuilt from @fixfonβs #20241, with credit for identifying the installation-prefix problem. This layer isolates the shared contract and persistence support.
Verification: the existing 86-case orchestration runtime suite passes on this layer, including the extended real SQLite event/projection/replay/compaction case. Scoped contracts/server typechecks and changed-file lint/format pass. Both independent reviewers checked this layer and the full stack; the fourth round found no blocking defects.
The dependent head also passed 559 focused tests and real prefixed-GitLab integration: test output, integrated persisted-link proof. No UI changed; no screenshots apply. macOS, Windows, iOS, Android, and Electron were not executed. CI and required human approvals remain separate gates.
Implemented with GPT-6.1 Sol; tests/proof with GPT-6 Astra; reviewed by Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Sol, through T3 Code with Codex and Claude Code harnesses.

Approvability
Verdict: Approved at b0b24bc
Macroscope's review found this PR approvable β This is a narrowly scoped, backward-compatible fix that carries optional authoritative pull-request URLs through existing server persistence, watch, projection, and compaction paths. Existing commands and stored records retain their behavior, and the added path is covered by an integration-style runtime test.

Apply supplied provenance to an existing link.
When existing is already visible, the early return at Line 3069 skips this merge. A thread.pull-request.link command with the same key and a repositoryWebUrl therefore leaves the stored field absent or stale. Update the existing link before returning, and emit the updated projection.

This early return intentionally preserves the existing idempotent link operation. A link key can name a legacy synthesized URL, and the same host/repository/number tuple can also collide between two projects on a prefixed installation. Automatically merging a newly supplied URL would silently retarget an existing visible link. The agreed compatibility policy preserves old agent links as raw selectors until they are unlinked and relinked; dismissed links are the explicit relink path and retain/supply provenance. The existing runtime suite covers link/watch/sync/replay/compaction, and the real GitLab proof covers legacy links remaining raw. Declining the proposed behavior change; no missing update is claimed by this layer.
@juliusmarminge Thanks for clarifying the compatibility policy. I withdraw this finding.
The early return preserves the existing visible link intentionally. Merging repositoryWebUrl on a repeated link command could silently retarget a legacy selector when project keys collide. Explicit unlink/relink, including the dismissed-link relink path, is the correct boundary for supplying provenance.

| 5 | Learning: In apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Orchestrator.ts, thread.pull-request.link intentionally leaves an existing visible link unchanged to preserve idempotency. On prefixed GitLab installations, legacy synthesized URLs can produce host/repository/number keys that collide between projects. Do not recommend merging newly supplied repositoryWebUrl into existing visible links. The compatibility policy keeps legacy agent links as raw selectors until explicit unlink/relink; dismissed links provide an explicit relink path that can retain or supply provenance. |
