A usage-limited thread should be hideable until its reported reset without forcing an automatic retry. This layer adds an independent Snooze limited threads environment setting and Snooze until reset / Wake now controls on web, desktop, and mobile. The web controls use the existing composer banner stack.

Snooze alone uses the existing expiry behavior and sends no continuation. It can be combined with auto-resume from #12686 to wake and continue after reset. Each action updates only its own choice; the server preserves omitted choices for the same run/reset, including updates from older clients. Cancelling auto-resume keeps snooze active; waking keeps auto-resume scheduled. A snooze request after reset is rejected. Ordinary thread snoozes remain distinct from recovery-owned snoozes. Providers without a reset time retain normal snooze and manual retry.

Validation: the latest integrated change passes 88 focused tests across three files, including receipt-based recovery scenarios for independent option patches, legacy-client updates, cancelling while snoozed, waking while scheduled, rejecting an expired snooze, and exactly one continuation. Scoped contracts, client-runtime, server, web, and mobile typechecks pass. Scoped lint has no errors; existing mobile purity and server unused-variable warnings remain. Earlier adapter/settings/restart checks also passed. Native mobile was typechecked, not exercised on a device.

The usage-limit banner stays on one row. While snoozed, its Snooze action is hidden and the existing nested thread-snooze banner owns Wake now. Waking updates only the recovery snooze choice, preserving auto-resume and allowing another snooze. The extra explanation and scheduled/snoozed description rows are removed.

Before the latest presentation adjustment, integrated stack:

Usage limit banner before simplification

After the latest presentation adjustment, integrated stack:

Compact usage-limit banner after this layer

Existing nested snooze banner after enabling both options:

Snooze banner owns Wake now, limit banner keeps Cancel auto-resume

Live verification used an isolated Codex protocol fixture and exercised Resume, Snooze, expanding the stack, Wake now, and cancellation. Waking preserved automatic resume and restored Snooze until reset. The final scoped web typecheck and lint pass, with existing ChatView warnings. The earlier 88 focused recovery tests remain passing from the prior implementation verification.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added options to snooze usage-limited threads until their provider resets, independently of auto-resume.
    • Added β€œSnooze limited threads” settings for web and mobile.
    • Added controls to snooze, resume, or wake limited threads from recovery banners.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Prevented expired snooze requests and preserved independent recovery settings.
    • Synchronized thread snooze state with usage-limit recovery updates.
  • Documentation
    • Documented snoozing and recovery options for limited threads.

Integration verification: refreshed against current v2 without including its PR into main. Focused tests cover provider limits, recovery, snooze, scheduler behavior, contracts, and transcript presentation. Empty recovery updates are rejected; waking a limited thread uses shell metadata even when detail state is stale. The banner handler allows React Compiler optimization.

Integration verification: malformed reset timestamps are rejected before metadata is persisted. Ordinary snoozes relinquish recovery snooze ownership, preserving auto-resume and preventing recovery cancellation from clearing a later manual snooze. Both regression scenarios pass in the integrated 18-case recovery suite.

The card remains in the β€œSnooze until reset” state after snoozing when snoozedUntil and resetAt use different valid ISO spellings for the same instant, so it renders β€œWake now” incorrectly and sends stale snooze state on later updates. Compare their parsed instants here and apply the same canonical comparison in the server-side clearing logic.

The Snooze setting is missing the snooze-limited-threads DOM id, so selecting that Settings search result opens General but cannot scroll to or focus this row. This row supplies only a literal title; spread searchableSetting("snooze-limited-threads") so the catalog target resolves correctly.

This catalog entry is navigated to with #snooze-limited-threads, but the corresponding SettingsRow in SettingsPanels.tsx only supplies a literal title and never spreads searchableSetting("snooze-limited-threads"), so no DOM element has that id. Selecting this result from Settings search/command palette therefore lands at the General page without scrolling to or focusing the Snooze setting. Add the searchable props to that row (or point targetId at a stable existing section).

Approvability

Verdict: Not approved

Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable β€” This PR adds a new cross-platform recovery workflow that persists snooze state, changes thread visibility, and controls whether automatic continuations run after provider limits reset. It spans server orchestration, shared contracts, web and mobile settings, and recovery UI, with a new product setting default, so the runtime and product implications merit human review.

When an ordinary snooze ends exactly at resetAt, this control is shown as Wake now, but clicking it sends snooze: false without a matching limitRecovery.snooze record, so the server leaves snoozedUntil unchanged and the thread remains snoozed. snoozed is inferred only from the timestamp; track whether the recovery owns the snooze, or issue the normal unsnooze operation for ordinary snoozes.

Fixed in the latest snooze layer. The card only treats a snooze as owned recovery when its run/reset and snooze choice match; ordinary snoozes use the existing thread wake control. A V2 runtime test verifies recovery changes preserve an ordinary snooze at the same reset, and normal unsnooze clears it. All 37 focused runtime tests pass.

Preserve an active snooze when snooze is omitted.

OrchestrationV2LimitRecovery.snooze is optional. If a limitRecovery update omits it, the clearing branch still runs because it checks only command.limitRecovery !== undefined. When the existing recovery has snooze: true and the reset time matches, the update clears snoozedUntil and snoozedAt. Treat an omitted snooze as no change, and clear the snooze only when the command explicitly sets snooze: false.

The current update merges omitted choices with previousRecovery, preserving an active snooze. The independent-patches runtime regression verifies cancelling and enabling auto-resume without changing snooze.

@juliusmarminge, correct. The handler merges omitted choices into limitRecovery before it updates the thread snooze state. An autoResume-only update therefore retains snooze: true and keeps the active snooze. The independent-patches regression covers this behavior. I withdraw this finding.

5Learning: In `apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Orchestrator.ts`, the `thread.metadata.update` handler merges omitted `limitRecovery.autoResume` and `limitRecovery.snooze` fields with the matching `previousRecovery` before it updates `snoozedUntil`. Therefore, an auto-resume-only update preserves an active usage-limit snooze. The independent-patches runtime regression covers enabling and cancelling auto-resume without changing snooze.

An older client can omit snooze when updating limitRecovery, and the metadata-update path treats that omission as false, clearing the existing snoozedUntil. Consequently, toggling autoResume from an older client wakes a snoozed thread early; preserve the current snooze when snooze is undefined and clear it only for an explicit false.

The snooze button remains enabled for the rest of the reset minute, so clicking it persists snooze: true without setting snoozedUntil; the thread is not actually snoozed because the server compares resetAt with its precise clock. nowMs is rounded down to the start of the current minute, so for up to 59 seconds after a reported reset the β€œSnooze until reset” button remains enabled. Clicking it sends snooze: true, but the server only applies snoozedUntil when resetAt is later than its actual clock (Orchestrator.ts:2414-2427). The request therefore persists a recovery setting without actually snoozing the thread, contrary to the button’s action. Pass a precise current timestamp for this enablement check (as the mobile implementation does).

Using the stale scheduled and snoozed values to send both autoResume and snooze lets concurrent clients silently undo each other's choice. The current toggle checks Date.now() before submitting a new snooze, and the server rejects expired snoozes. The expired-snooze runtime regression passes.

@juliusmarminge, confirmed. toggle rechecks Date.now() immediately before it calls onChange for a new snooze. The server-side rejection provides a second safeguard. The expired-snooze regression also covers this case. I withdraw this finding.

limitRecovery accepts an object containing only runId and resetAt, so an update with neither autoResume nor snooze is treated as a real update. When no recovery exists for that identity, projection persists both choices as false; limitRecoveryCommand then skips applying the environment settings, silently disabling recovery for the usage-limited thread. Require at least one of autoResume or snooze in OrchestrationV2LimitRecoveryUpdate (or reject updates with neither field).

Use shell recovery metadata when waking a limited thread.

When serverRuntime is null or stale, recoveryOwnsSnooze can be false even when the shell recovery matches the latest run and snoozedUntil matches limitRecovery.resetAt. The fallback thread.unsnooze clears only snoozedUntil and snoozedAt; it preserves limitRecovery.snooze. Determine recovery ownership from the shell recovery, latest run, and snoozedUntil fields without requiring serverRuntime.

Fixed: recoveryOwnsSnooze uses shell recovery, latest run, and snoozedUntil without depending on serverRuntime. Wake preserves the independent auto-resume choice. Focused runtime tests and web typecheck passed.

A later recovery update with snooze: false clears a user's ordinary snooze when both snoozes use the same resetAt timestamp. This cleanup identifies recovery ownership solely by comparing thread.snoozedUntil to thread.limitRecovery.resetAt, so it cannot distinguish the recovery-created snooze from a subsequent thread.snooze; persist ownership or otherwise restrict cleanup to the snooze created by the recovery action.
