Summary

Birdbrain documentation now fails the prose check when it mentions courts or admissibility, whether as a claim or as a disclaimer. Files that already quote banned words on purpose are exempt from the new rule. The writing guide no longer asks writers to repeat a disclaimer about court testing, and it now forbids that language. Existing pages that still use the words fail only when someone edits those lines.

Changes

Files changed, grouped by purpose
  • New rule: .vale/styles/Birdbrain/Court.yml flags court, courtroom, courthouse and admissible forms at error level, including hyphenated uses, and does not flag "courtesy".
  • Exemptions: .vale.ini turns the rule off for the files that already have exemptions for quoting banned words (the writing guide, the investigation standards review, the design-system brand book, the archived style guide and the pinned review records).
  • Writing guide: docs/agents/writing-guide.md replaces the "not tested in court" register example, adds a claim rule that bans court and admissibility language, and drops "Court-admissible" from the unqualified assurance words list.

Evidence-affecting

No

Verification

Preflight was not run on this branch because the change is linter configuration and one document. These checks were run instead:

  • Rule behavior: On a sample file, the new rule flagged all eight banned uses, including "Court exhibit", and skipped "courtesy".
  • Changed lines: The prose check for changed lines (.claude/hooks/vale-prose.sh --base origin/main) exited 0 on the full ruleset.
  • Commit message: The commit message passed the commit message check.
  • Whole-file run: Vale reports the new rule on README.md:38, website/content/docs/index.mdx:19, website/content/docs/features.mdx:108, website/content/docs/adoption-guide.mdx:101, website/content/docs/architecture.mdx:79 and website/content/docs/threat-model.mdx:73 and :165. Those lines are unchanged here and fail only when edited.
  • Not covered: Vale checks Markdown only, so mentions of courts in source code, the stale-issue workflow, CLAUDE.md and the severity classifier prompt are untouched.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title "docs(vale): ban court and admissibility language in docs" matches the main change: a new Vale rule that flags court and admissibility terms, plus the writing guide update that bans that language. It is specific, concise, and follows a conventional commit style.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description gives a clear summary of the new Vale rule, the exemptions, and the writing guide changes. It fills in the Summary, Changes, Evidence-affecting (No), and Verification sections, and it ends with the agent-written attribution line. The Summary is four sentences, within the five-sentence limit. The Summary uses file names and code spans (for example, .vale/styles/Birdbrain/Court.yml and .vale.ini), which the template forbids in that section. The 'Closes #N' line is replaced by 'No issue:' with a reason, as the template allows. The Verification section also has more than the template's required paste of .preflight/verification.md, which cannot be confirmed from the given context.

Resolution

Optional: remove file names and code spans from the Summary section, as the template requires. Confirm that the Verification block matches .preflight/verification.md at the head sha under review.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

No eligible functions found in the changed files. Skipping docstring coverage check. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 0 functions across 0 files. (1 skipped: 1 unsupported.)

It does not constrain the Operator, who holds that key and can mint an internally consistent chain — `SECURITY.md` says so outright. It does not show the page was genuine. And the RFC 3161 token anchors a capture's content hash, not the manifest head, so it dates the content rather than proving the chain around it is intact. Write both halves.

Allow required admissibility limitations.

ADR-0004 rejects generic product claims but assigns case-specific admissibility responsibility to the operator and deploying organization. The current Birdbrain.Court rule rejects every matching mention in Markdown by default. Limit the rule to unqualified product claims, or amend ADR-0004 to document the broader policy. Existing exemptions preserve only files or passages that explicitly use them.
