AttachmentFilePreview.browser.test.tsx > keeps workspace PDF scroll and zoom after reloads fails now and then in Test Web with Cannot find element … getByText('1 / 3 pages') (run 41699885540, attempt 1). Of the other runs reported with it, 41699708667, 41699265242, 41697638532 and 41696482985 failed on MessagesTimeline instead. Their attempt-1 logs show this test passing, in 10.9–14.5 s.

Root cause

Every rerender in this test gives the workspace preview a new revision, which remounts PdfViewer. The new viewer fetches the file, opens it on the shared pdf.js worker, reads the page sizes, and only then shows "N / M pages". The test checked the result with a bare expect.element(...) or vi.waitFor(...), and both poll for Vitest's default 1 s. The aria snapshot from the failed run shows the region still on status "Loading file" with the toolbar already reset. pdf.js was still loading the document when the 1 s poll gave up. Locally, the same reload takes 43–401 ms on a busy 16-core machine, so a loaded 2-vCPU CI runner can go past 1 s. I found no evidence of a real hang in the component.

Fix

Test only. The fixture wraps openPdf with vi.mock(import("./pdfDocument")) and exposes nextDocument() and reload(screen, element). These await the next pdf.js loading task and its getPage calls, the work the viewer finishes before it shows the page count. The existing DOM assertions then check state instead of racing the worker. Both workspace PDF tests (keeps scroll and zoom, clamps scroll) use it for their first render and every reload. No timeouts, retries or sleeps are added.

Evidence

  • Both workspace PDF tests, temporarily looped 25× each in one run with 14 busy-loop CPU burners: 50/50 passed.
  • Without the fix, the same loop gave 24 of 25 for the first test. The one failure was a cold-start 15 s test timeout on its first iteration, not this bug.
  • I could not reproduce the 1 s overrun itself locally. Chromium CPU throttling at 3× passed both before and after the fix, and at 8× every iteration hit the 15 s test timeout either way. The proof here is the CI snapshot plus the measured reload latency.
  • vp run check:changed passes.

🟠 High orchestration-v2/ProviderTurnStartService.ts:1303

When retry history exceeds the native budget for a message with attachments, automatic compaction drops those attachments: this branch settles the request as failed, and recovery replays it through prepareRetryHandoff as text-only history, so the provider never receives the image or file. Preserve and resend the original message, including attachments, after compaction instead of relying only on the history handoff.

Walkthrough

The server now detects qualifying provider context-compaction failures and dispatches compaction and continuation messages through a worker. An integration test covers the flow. PDF preview browser tests now wait for document and page loading during initial loads and reloads.

Changes: Context Compaction

Layer / File(s)Summary
Compaction failure signal and detection
packages/provider-core/src/server/failure.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/ProviderTurnStartService.ts
Adds a tagged compaction-required failure and handles qualifying resumed-thread handoff failures without taking the existing fresh-session recovery path.
Compaction event handling and runtime wiring
apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/ContextCompactionService.ts, apps/server/src/server.ts
The service dispatches an agent idle-compaction message for a qualifying error and a user continuation message after a compaction run completes. The server starts the service as a worker.
Compaction integration coverage
apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/testkit/ProviderSwitch.integration.test.ts
The integration test checks that a later turn succeeds, includes a missed request in delivered context, and uses the same native thread.

PDF Preview Test Synchronization

Layer / File(s)Summary
PDF loading waits across preview tests
apps/web/src/components/files/AttachmentFilePreview.browser.test.tsx
The test fixture intercepts PDF loading tasks and adds helpers to wait for document and page reads. Tests use the helpers for initial loads and reloads.

Merge Risk: External image Low · previous review 9a453

A PDF loading error can leave a browser test timed out with resources still mounted, and the new integration test does not verify the continuation text. These are bounded test risks; the change is mergeable with owner awareness.

Explanation

The title names the change accurately. It states that the workspace PDF tests now wait for pdf.js before they read the page count. The diff is test-only and the PR description confirms the same fix. The title follows the conventional commit form, and the scope (web) matches the touched area.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description follows the template sections (Problem, Change, Scope and approval, Verification) and covers the problem, root cause, fix, and evidence. It explains the 1 s polling race with a linked CI run and local timing data. The Scope and approval section is not filled in. It does not link a triaged issue or maintainer approval, and it does not give a reason why the fix qualifies without one. The description also does not mention a PR number reference in that section, which the template asks for. The Change section does not name a template-listed scope exemption. The description also states the author used Claude Opus 5.5, which matches the template's agent note.

Resolution

Complete the "Scope and approval" section. Either link the triaged bug issue or the maintainer discussion that approved this direction, including the approval comment. Or explain why this small test-only fix of an obvious bug qualifies without a prior issue or discussion. Keep the existing Verification content.

Assert the continuation turn explicitly.

The third expected value compares turns[2]!.text with itself. The test therefore does not check the continuation message dispatched by ContextCompactionService. Assert the expected turn count and the actual continuation text.

Cancel the wait when the test ends.

If readBoundedDocument fails before openPdf, this promise never settles. The test reaches its timeout without disposing the screen or fixture, which can affect later tests. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Make the wait reject on test cancellation and remove its queued callback.

  • test(web): workspace PDF tests wait for pdf.js before reading the page count0ffe778

Replaced by #31104. Waiting on pdf.js before reading the page count didn't help here: under load the scroll and zoom test runs out its 15 s budget across five reloads (5 of 40 failed locally), so #31104 replaces the two multi-reload tests with one shorter test plus a unit test, and it passed 100 of 100 runs under load.
