fix(web): long server lists in thread details now page 4 at a time#28684

When a thread runs many local servers, the Servers list in the thread details card grows very long and pushes everything else down.

Now it shows 4 servers, then a "Show N more" row that adds 4 more each time, then "Show less" to collapse back to 4. It uses the same chevron row as the PR list in this card. Extra server rows are left out of the card's density measurement, the same way expanded PR rows are. Without that, expanding could switch the card to compact mode and hide the list, including the "Show less" row.

Proof: new browser tests for paging (ThreadServersPanel.browser.test.tsx) and for the card staying full while expanded (ThreadDetailsCard.browser.test.tsx). Both fail on main and pass with this change. vp run check:changed passes. The screenshots come from the real component in the browser test runner, because T3's Browser panel cannot start Chrome as root on this host. Mobile has no Servers list, so it needs no change.

Takeover

Taken over from @Bil0000 (land). No code changes; evidence and verification added below. The branch gained two merges of main: the first resolves a conflict with #28585, which added [data-thread-automations-panel] to the same density-exclusion selector in ThreadDetailsCard.tsx, by keeping both entries (and both tests). The second, 44a5e8f65c, touches no file in this PR; captures were taken at 7c0cf8340c.

Evidence

9/9 required rows captured for #28684: 03, 04, 07, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 24. Real app on both pinned revisions; no component harnesses. Unverified required rows: none.

Additional difference outside pagination content: zero-threshold diffs for rows 07/12 catch 39–46 changed raster-edge pixels in upper chevrons/top rounded corners (max channel delta 15/255); positions/text are unchanged and DiffT excludes these.

Environment (every capture): Linux x86_64 VM fs-29; Playwright 1.60.0 / headless Chromium 148.0.7778.96; DPR 1; browser zoom and font scaling 100%, 16px root; reduced motion; built-in resolved light/dark. Desktop uses no device emulation. 390×844 uses mobile/touch mode, coarse pointer, no hover, no named device. Browser wall clock fixed at 2026-11-02T22:00:00Z. Each still is full viewport, font-ready, network-idle, and pixel-identical across two frames 500ms apart. Viewport/theme are repeated below; scroll is top unless labeled bottom.

What else changed (checked at zero threshold):

  • Row 03 is pixel-identical. Rows 04/07/10/12 replace hidden server rows with a chevron/footer and shorten the card; expanded row 11 adds Show less and 32px of card height.
  • Rows 13/14 retain full-density workspace/environment/editor, scripts and Version Control layout instead of base compact density. The taller card scrolls; bottom views intentionally show the last server/footer and scroll-fade, while base stays at scrollTop 0 because its compact card does not overflow.
  • Mobile collapsed paging uncovers the composer and submit control that the base popup covers. The taller floating card covers more of the empty-chat message and the composer’s right edge.
  • In rows 13/14, retaining full density also keeps the Publish repository action visible. Apart from the raster-edge differences called out above, all changes are the intended pagination/density changes; every nonzero pixel stays within the card area (including its border). Row 24 intentionally changes the selected thread, header/sidebar order and server ports, then resets A to four rows.

Diff0: any RGB channel delta >0 is amplified to saturated magenta (a one-level change is visible). DiffT: max RGB channel delta >16/255, same overlay; unchanged pixels are dimmed to 20%. Exact pixel counts and bounds.

Verification log
  • Tests: kept the PR's 2 tests unchanged (ThreadServersPanel.browser.test.tsx 1, ThreadDetailsCard.browser.test.tsx +1, 8 in file). Revert check: reverting ThreadDetailsCard.tsx fails the density test (card goes compact); reverting ThreadServersPanel.tsx fails paging (expected 10 to be 4); removing only the thread key wrapper fails the reset (expected 8 to be 4).
  • Implementation: unchanged; matches the PR list's "Show N more" row (ThreadDetailsPrRows.tsx) and the lineage panel's per-thread keyed paging.
  • Review round 1: reviewer A (GPT-6.1 Sol, Codex) MERGE, reviewer B (Claude Opus 5.5) MERGE; no confirmed bugs. Notes, not regressions: visibleCount is not clamped when the list shrinks below 5 and regrows (same as the lineage list); toggle has no aria-expanded (same as the PR list).
  • Proof audit: matrix derived from code (44 rows; 9 rows the diff changes captured). Pass 2 rejected the first recordings for codec smear; recordings re-captured from lossless frames; recheck SUFFICIENT on all 9 rows; independent rebuild of row 07 light: 0 changed pixels.
  • vp run check:changed passes on 44a5e8f65c (format, lint, knip, typecheck, tests, react compiler). CI green on 7c0cf8340c.
  • Unverified surfaces: none (web only; desktop wraps web; mobile has no Servers list).

Walkthrough

ThreadServersPanel now reveals discovered servers in groups of four and lets the list return to its initial four rows. ThreadDetailsCard excludes expanded server rows from the height used to resolve card density.

Changes: Thread server overflow and card density

Layer / File(s)Summary
Server pagination
apps/web/src/components/chat/ThreadServersPanel.tsx, apps/web/src/components/chat/ThreadServersPanel.browser.test.tsx
The panel initially displays four servers and reveals up to four more per action. It shows “Show less” when all servers are visible. The browser test checks the four-, eight-, ten-, and four-row states, including after switching threads.
Card density measurement
apps/web/src/components/chat/ThreadDetailsCard.tsx, apps/web/src/components/chat/ThreadDetailsCard.browser.test.tsx
The card excludes elements marked with data-thread-details-server-overflow from its measured height. The browser test checks that overflow rows do not reduce density when the base content fits.

Cover the real overflow marker in the existing paging test.

ThreadServersPanel.browser.test.tsx checks only row counts. If the producer stops adding data-thread-details-server-overflow, this test still passes, even though ThreadDetailsCard relies on that marker for density measurement. Add marker-count assertions through expect.element at each paging state.

Wait for the row-count assertions.

Wrap the row-count assertions in vi.waitFor so they wait for DOM updates after each click.

As per coding guidelines, “Browser tests assert through expect.element or vi.waitFor.”

✅ Confirmed as addressed by @Bil0000

Note

🤖 Claude Opus 5.5 responding on behalf of Bil0000

Fixed in cea5473. Row counts now use vi.waitFor, and the 8-row state also checks the four overflow markers that ThreadDetailsCard measures.

@Bil0000 Thanks for the fix in cea5473. The reported vi.waitFor changes address this finding. The overflow-marker assertion also checks the markers used for density measurement.

Key the server list by thread so expansion does not carry over.

ThreadServersPanel keeps visibleCount in component state. Nothing resets it when threadId changes. Server-thread navigation reuses the same ChatView, ThreadDetailsPanel, and ThreadServersPanel instances. If one thread's list is expanded and the user opens another thread, the new thread starts with the expanded count instead of four. Its "Show less" control is also shown in the expanded state. A key on the ThreadServersPanel element in ThreadDetailsPanel resets this state on each thread change.

Valid. Fixed in cea5473. I put the key inside the panel instead of in ThreadDetailsPanel: ThreadServersPanel renders an inner list keyed by environmentId:threadId, so paging remounts per thread. The test now expands thread A, switches to B, then back to A, and expects 4 rows each time. It fails without the key (8 rows).

@Bil0000 The internal key works. In the supplied code, ThreadServersList owns visibleCount and remounts when either environmentId or threadId changes. This resets paging to four rows without a key in ThreadDetailsPanel.

The reported A → B → A regression test covers the original failure.

Reset the page after the server list shrinks.

useThreadDiscoveredPorts can emit fewer servers and later emit more servers while the same list remains mounted. If the user expanded eight rows, a drop to four or fewer leaves visibleCount at eight. When nine servers return, servers.slice(0, visibleCount) renders eight rows without another expansion.

Reset visibleCount to SERVER_PAGE_COUNT when the list has four or fewer servers.
