Problem

On mobile, the pending approval card above the composer had no height cap and no scroll. A long command, such as a 40-line heredoc, made the card taller than the screen. Its top slid under the navigation header, and dragging the card did nothing, so the command could not be read.

Reproduced on main (b42adff3) on an iPhone 17 Pro simulator and a Pixel 9 emulator. The thread was a Supervised Claude Haiku 5.5 thread, asked to run a 40-line heredoc through Bash.

Change

  • PendingApprovalCard takes an animated maxHeight and clips to it, the way PendingUserInputCard already does.
    • The heading, title, command, reason and full-access explanation scroll inside the card.
    • The option warning, the "provider no longer available" notice and the decision buttons stay pinned at the bottom.
  • ThreadDetailScreen derives the cap from the existing derivePendingUserInputMaxHeight budget, on the UI thread. The budget subtracts:
    • the screen height minus the navigation header;
    • the composer's measured height plus the slot's pb-3;
    • the keyboard lift that the sticky composer applies.
  • The card is keyed by request id, so the next approval opens scrolled to the top with its explanation collapsed.
  • When the content fits, the card looks the same as before.

Scope and approval

Fixes pingdotgg/t3code#27291

Mobile client only. Web, desktop, server and contracts are unchanged. Approval decisions, options and permission checks are unchanged. Only the layout of the card changes.

Verification

  • vp run check:changed passes on the merged head: format, lint, knip, typecheck of 2 packages, and React Compiler on both files.
  • No unit test was added. This is a layout bug, so device captures are the proof.

Captures. Real native dev clients on pooled devices. Each side ran from its own checkout, with an isolated server and Metro on a fresh database (T3CODE_DEV_SEED=0).

  • Fixtures: the long approval is an identical synthetic Replay (dev) ACP permission request on both sides, a cat <<'EOF' with 40 lines. The short control is the stock Replay "Write approval" scenario.
  • Devices: iPhone 17 Pro on iOS 27.2 (402×874 pt, scale 3) and Pixel 9 on Android 16, API 36 (1080×2424 px, scale 2.625). Font scale 1.0. Status bar clock normalized on stills. Captured with agent-device screenshot and native screen recording.
  • SHAs: before is b42adff3. After is 0b485f7b, whose two changed files are identical at the merged head.

M04: scroll and keyboard (recordings)

Both sides ran the same script. Times are seconds from the start of the recording, before / after:

  1. Drag inside the command toward the bottom ten times (1.0–16.1 / 1.0–16.1), then capture a checkpoint (17.7 / 17.7).
  2. Drag toward the top ten times (18.9–33.9 / 19.1–33.9), then capture a checkpoint (35.5 / 35.7).
  3. Focus the composer (36.8 / 37.2).
  4. Type a four-line draft (37.9 / 38.6).
  5. Capture a keyboard checkpoint (42.1 / 43.8).

Before: the drags move nothing, and the heading stays under the header. After: the command scrolls to line 40 and EOF, then back to the heading, while the buttons stay put. When the keyboard opens, the card shrinks to stay below the header.

Before recording: iPhone 17 Pro, card drags do nothingAfter recording: iPhone 17 Pro, command scrolls inside the card, buttons pinned
Before · Pixel 9After · Pixel 9
Before recording: Pixel 9After recording: Pixel 9

What else changed:

  • The heading and title now scroll with the command; only the warning, the unavailable-provider notice and the buttons are pinned.
  • With a long card, the scroll indicator shows while dragging.
  • On Pixel, the long-card buttons and composer sit about one physical pixel lower. On the short card, the title and detail sit one physical pixel higher (see M02).
  • iOS glass and shadow rendering differs faintly in the zero-threshold diffs. None of it survives at 2%.
  • While a multi-line draft grows the composer, the card overlaps the header for about half a second, until the composer's measured height settles. You can see this around 42 s in the iPhone recording and 89 s in the Pixel recording.

Not checked:

  • An option warning on a long command, such as Antigravity's "allow always" warning. Replay cannot produce option warnings.
  • The unavailable-provider and read-only notices.
  • An approval card and a question card shown together.
  • Tablets and larger system text.

The seed and driver steps follow the repo's test-t3-mobile flow. The Replay fixture is a session/request_permission frame whose execute tool call carries the 40-line heredoc; it is not committed.

Walkthrough

The mobile approval card now has a keyboard-aware maximum height. Its approval content scrolls inside the card, while the approval-response controls remain outside the scroll view.

Changes: Mobile approval card

Layer / File(s)Summary
Approval-card height contract and scrolling
apps/mobile/src/features/threads/PendingApprovalCard.tsx
PendingApprovalCard requires a Reanimated DerivedValue<number> for maxHeight. The animated card applies this height and places the heading, details, reason, and expanded-access explanation in a non-bouncing scroll view.
Thread keyboard sizing and card wiring
apps/mobile/src/features/threads/ThreadDetailScreen.tsx
ThreadDetailBody calculates the card’s maximum height using keyboard animation values, composer overlap, and approval-slot padding. It passes the height to the card and keys the card by request ID.

Long approval commands now scroll inside the card, which fixes the reported issue. Two edge cases remain: an approval shown together with a pending question can overflow or be covered, and a very long option warning can push the decision buttons out of view. Both are narrow, so the change is mergeable with follow-up.

The description includes complete Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification sections. It explains the affected behavior, implementation, scope, test results, device evidence, and known untested cases.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Directly linked issue #27291 has three coding requirements: (1) the approval card stays within the screen, (2) long command content scrolls inside the card, and (3) Allow and Decline stay reachable. The whole-PR diff (merge base 8970a321 to head bf36eca7) addresses each one.

(1) Within the screen: ThreadDetailScreen.tsx adds pendingApprovalMaxHeight, a useDerivedValue that calls derivePendingUserInputMaxHeight with the screen height, keyboard lift, navigation header height and composer overlap plus PENDING_APPROVAL_SLOT_BOTTOM_PADDING (10.5). PendingApprovalCard.tsx applies this value as an animated maxHeight on an Animated.View with overflow-hidden. The card is capped.

(2) Scrolling: the heading, title, detail, reason and full-access toggle sit inside a ScrollView (bounces={false}, nestedScrollEnabled, flexShrink: 1). The long command text scrolls inside the card.

(3) Reachable actions: the non-live notice, the decision buttons and the operator notices remain outside the ScrollView, after it in the card. They stay pinned at the bottom. Reachability holds while the pinned controls fit within the cap. The author's device captures (iPhone 17 Pro and Pixel 9) show the command scrolling and the buttons staying in place.

The card is keyed by requestId, as the objectives require. The issue does not request automated tests, so the absence of a unit test is not a failed requirement.

The PR description discloses a transient header overlap of about half a second while a multi-line draft grows the composer. This is a timing limitation in the keyboard and composer measurement path. It is not a missing requirement, so it does not change this verdict.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The whole-PR diff touches only two files: apps/mobile/src/features/threads/PendingApprovalCard.tsx and apps/mobile/src/features/threads/ThreadDetailScreen.tsx. Both changes serve issue #27291.

In PendingApprovalCard.tsx, the new maxHeight prop, Animated.View, ScrollView and key handling are needed for the cap and scroll behavior. The import changes support the same work. The content moved into the ScrollView is the same content as before. The buttons, decision handlers, canRespond logic and disabled logic are not changed.

In ThreadDetailScreen.tsx, the new keyboard progress read, pendingApprovalMaxHeight and PENDING_APPROVAL_SLOT_BOTTOM_PADDING supply the cap. The key={requestId} prop on the card matches the stated objective. The constant has a comment that ties it to the pb-3 slot padding.

No web, desktop, server or contracts files change. No approval decision, option or permission logic changes. No unrelated refactor appears in the diff.

Do not let the height floor exceed the available screen space.

When the keyboard and an expanded composer leave less than 160 points above the composer, derivePendingUserInputMaxHeight still returns at least 160. The approval card can then cross the navigation header despite its new limit. Constrain the card to the actual available space and provide a way to reach its actions when that space cannot hold the pinned controls. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Budget space for both pending cards.

When activePendingApproval and activePendingUserInput are both present, this code renders both cards but gives each a limit based on the full available height. On Android, two tall cards can therefore push the approval heading above the screen. On iOS, the question card’s expanded overlay can cover the approval card. Reserve space for the second card, or place both cards in a bounded scrollable stack. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Keep long warnings from clipping the decision buttons.

ProviderApprovalOption.warning has no contract-level maximum length. Antigravity maps provider metadata into this field and truncates it only to 512 characters. The approval card can shrink to 160 points while the warning remains outside the ScrollView. A 512-character warning can wrap across enough lines to clip the decision buttons. Move the warning into the scrollable content or constrain it independently.
