fix(mobile): a new thread's first send no longer sticks on Starting#25477
Problem
On mobile, the first message sent in a new thread could stick on "Pending / Starting…". Reopening the thread showed "Thread unavailable", although the server had finished the run and saved the reply. The thread opened normally once its cached state expired, about five minutes later.
Cause
ThreadFeed read the workflow opening (useWorkflowOpening) and the guest share (useThreadGuestShare) by the route's thread id. While a new thread's creation is still queued in the outbox, the server does not know that id yet. useThreadSelection already withholds selectedThreadDetailRef until delivery for exactly this reason: a not-found snapshot is cached as a deleted thread and the subscription parks. These two readers skipped that guard. When the feed's bounded snapshot request reached the server before the creation command committed, the thread was marked deleted on the client for good.
This is a race, so it shows up only some of the time. In the live repro on main, GET /api/orchestration/threads/<id>/bounded returned 404 at 08.324, and the server created the thread at 08.599.
Fix
ThreadFeed takes the guarded detailRef from ThreadDetailScreen (selectedThreadDetailRef, which is null until delivery). Both hooks read through it, like every other detail reader on the thread screen. useWorkflowOpening now accepts a nullable ref.
Test
No new test. The existing ThreadFeed harness (filePreview.test.ts) mocks both hooks, so a test there would only check that the prop is passed through. The live run below is the proof. vp run check:changed passes.
Live verification (iOS 27.0 simulator, iPhone 18 Pro, seeded dev server)
Each run: cold launch, new thread, Claude Haiku, send.
- main: 1 of 4 runs stuck on Pending / Starting, with the 404 above. The shell showed the server's title while the detail never loaded.
- this branch: 3 of 3 runs completed. Each
/boundedrequest came about 600 ms after the server created the thread, and returned 200.
Model: Claude Opus 5.5, Claude Code harness.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a focused mobile race-condition fix that routes workflow and guest-share reads through the existing guarded thread reference. It preserves normal-thread behavior, adds focused state-selection coverage, and introduces no schema, deployment, security, billing, or configuration changes.

Walkthrough
Thread selection now calculates whether a selected thread has a detail reference based on its creation status. ThreadDetailScreen passes that reference to ThreadFeed, which forwards it to the workflow-opening and guest-share hooks.

Add a real queued-to-delivered regression test.
filePreview.test.ts mocks both hooks, so its detailRef: null fixtures cannot detect this race. Add a focused test that renders the real hooks with detailRef: null, then updates to a delivered ScopedThreadRef and asserts the workflow-opening and guest-share results. Make the test fail against the pre-change main implementation.

Added in e44c715.
Testing useWorkflowOpening or useThreadGuestShare directly would only show that they skip a null ref. The harness that renders ThreadFeed mocks both hooks, so it cannot show the bug either. The invariant behind this fix is the selection guard, which decides when any detail reader gets a ref. That guard had no test.
The commit moves the guard, unchanged, from use-thread-selection.ts into a pure selectThreadCreationDetail in pending-thread-creation.ts. The new test selectThreadCreationDetail > withholds the detail ref until the creation is delivered checks the queued → failed → delivered sequence: the detail ref is null while creation is queued or failed, and becomes the route ref once creation is delivered. A second case checks that follow-up messages queued on an existing thread do not hold back its ref.
With the guard replaced by detailRef = threadRef, the first test fails. ThreadFeed now reads both hooks through this ref (see ThreadDetailScreen), so the test covers them too.

@juliusmarminge The selection guard is a reasonable test boundary. Separate hook tests are not necessary for the approach you described. The selector test protects when detail reads become eligible; it does not directly test both hooks.
I confirmed that ThreadDetailScreen passes the guarded ref to ThreadFeed, and both hooks use it. However, the sandbox checkout is still at b3d700d, and it could not retrieve e44c715. I therefore could not verify the new tests or extraction.
Please retry the review once e44c715 is available to the checkout. Verification remains incomplete; this is not evidence of a defect in the added tests.
