The retained mobile sidebar keeps fallback pull-request summary demand alive while hidden or inactive. Gate that demand on the sidebar's existing visibility and app-active state, preserving cached badges, mounted sidebar state, and polling for other visible readers. Current iOS native-column Home bypasses this sidebar and remains outside this fix.

The six demand cases cover hidden and cold-hidden sidebars, cached reveal/revalidation, a shared visible reader, inactive/background transitions, and Activity retention. The existing eight presentation/cache tests remain. Merged github/main at 32bf48f42820; the only conflict was test registration, and both registrations are retained. The contribution remains five files (+376/-6).

Verification at 44ee2c921a57dd23965f04d3724b5565735cf0aa: blacksmith CI=true vp run check:changed 32bf48f428200efc95295ed109526f7b88d9d68a passed format, lint, both knip checks, affected typechecks, and all 14 focused tests. A separate demand-suite run passed all six cases. The worker's shallow history was connected to the exact upstream base for comparison; source files were unchanged. All 29 check contexts passed on this head; GitHub reports CLEAN/MERGEABLE. Two independent final read-only reviews approve this exact head with no in-scope findings.

Native runtime and real wire RPC integration were not repeated in this VM. Earlier author-reported Android compatibility observations are not current-head verification. No visual change, new setting, polling interval, or battery/performance claim is introduced.

Implementation and review: GPT-6.1 Sol, Codex harness through T3 Code.

Walkthrough

The sidebar now provides pull-request query demand based on visibility and app activity. useThreadPr disables summary queries when demand is absent. Tests cover query behavior and badge retention across visibility and app-state changes.

Changes: Thread pull-request demand

Layer / File(s)Summary
Demand context and query control
apps/mobile/src/state/thread-pr-demand.tsx, apps/mobile/src/features/threads/ThreadNavigationSidebar.tsx, apps/mobile/src/state/use-thread-pr.ts
The sidebar wraps both platform render paths in a provider. The provider combines sidebar visibility with app activity. useThreadPr uses this demand and the PR reference to control summary queries.
Polling and presentation tests
apps/mobile/src/state/use-thread-pr.demand.test.tsx, apps/mobile/vite.config.ts
Tests cover query behavior and badge retention across sidebar visibility and app-state changes. They also cover shared readers and hidden Activity tabs. The React test configuration includes the new test file.

thanks @saphid. the sidebar visibility and app-activity gate is the right fix, and it remains intact at 16529822f5.

  • merged current main, preserving its bounded onAnswer summary cache and your commit history.
  • reduced the demand suite from 524 lines / 18 cases to 345 lines / 6 cases. it retains hidden polling, cached reveal/revalidation, cold-hidden mount, a shared visible reader, inactive/background transitions, and Activity retention. removed layout combinations, unchanged identity/linked-presentation cases, the near-tick case, and an obsolete registry mock. the existing 8 presentation/cache tests remain.
  • compared the original diff against the final change. production behavior and test registration are preserved; only tests were trimmed beyond the main merge.

verification: disabling the gate reproduced 4 expected failures, including 3 hidden summary calls over 180 simulated seconds. restoring it passes all 14 focused tests. blacksmith CI=true vp run check:changed 5127de8c29ede39fc567337cebc4726fbaa16b63 passed format, lint, knip, typechecks, and tests. two independent read-only reviews found no issues at this head. ci is still finishing.

unverified: native-device behavior and real wire rpc integration were not exercised in this vm. no visual change is intended; there are no new screenshots or battery/performance claims.

merged current github/main (32bf48f42820) into the existing fork head without rebasing. the only conflict was adjacent test registrations; both remain. pushed 44ee2c921a without force. the contribution remains five files (+376/-6), with no production changes in this pass.

blacksmith CI=true vp run check:changed 32bf48f428200efc95295ed109526f7b88d9d68a passed format, lint, both knip checks, affected typechecks, and all 14 focused tests. the six demand tests also passed separately. two independent final read-only reviews approve this exact head with no findings within the accepted sidebar scope. native Home remains outside this fix, as documented in the original scope.

no CI failures or unresolved inline bot findings. coderabbit is still pending. native runtime and real wire RPC integration were not repeated in this VM.

Cover the production demand boundary.

The current demand tests mount ThreadPrDemandProvider directly. They do not render ThreadNavigationSidebar, so a regression in visible={props.visible} would leave those tests unchanged. A hidden mounted sidebar could then keep a live summary reader and poll while the app is active. Add a behavior-level test that renders ThreadNavigationSidebar with visible={false} and asserts that summary polling stops.

Verified in a real dev environment

no changed behavior could be verified in a running client on this linux vm. this is a blocked verification report, not a runtime pass.

i read the description, discussion, reviews, and five-file diff at 44ee2c921a57dd23965f04d3724b5565735cf0aa. the pr is open, and its listed commits have no authors from @juliusmarminge or @t3dotgg. git.cafe maps it to https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/25337. its stored ci snapshot reports 29 successful contexts, zero failing, zero pending; those results are not runtime proof.

Not verified

the changed code is in the react native mobile client: ThreadNavigationSidebar supplies visibility and native AppState demand to useThreadPr. the web client, including a mobile-sized chrome viewport, does not execute that path.

test-t3-mobile requires stopping verification when device tools or the selected device are unavailable. no native client was available to install or drive. i did not start main or pr dev servers, install dependencies, create projects or threads, or run codex turns because none would exercise this mobile-only change without that client. no source changes or pushes were made.

unverified: original bug reproduction on github/main; hidden and cold-hidden sidebar summary rpc suppression; reveal and cached badge revalidation; inactive/background transitions; continued polling for another visible reader; retained sidebar state; and real codex gpt-6.1-sol client/provider integration. no screenshots or recording were captured because there was no running affected client. native ios-column home is outside this fix per the pr description.

to complete verification, enable an android device host, install the native dev client for each revision, connect it to the isolated backend, and compare real summary rpc traffic while hiding/revealing the retained sidebar and backgrounding/foregrounding the app. also confirm cached badges and another visible reader continue working. current status: unverifiable on this vm, not verified or broken.

Verified on Android emulator (API 35) against a real dev server

verified head 44ee2c921a57dd23965f04d3724b5565735cf0aa on the t3 Android emulator with the fingerprint-matched native dev client, Metro, and an isolated vp run dev backend. used tablet dimensions (1600×1200, density 200) to exercise ThreadNavigationSidebar; the compact phone Home list is a separate path.

created a real project and two threads. three real Codex gpt-6.1-sol turns completed through the local proxy, including a message entered in the Android composer and its rendered reply. resolved this real PR through pullRequests.summary and stored its fallback reference through the server's orchestration sync command. for the long comparison, the reference-bearing thread was manually settled and its shelf expanded, keeping branch rediscovery from clearing the fork reference. verified that the reference remained present after both observation windows. no mocks, demo data, fake responses, or source changes.

recorded the Android client's actual WebSocket requests through a transparent forwarding proxy:

  • github/main client at 0160c448f61bf24244411781ccc47829a1a51a17: 3 summary requests in 145 seconds with the retained split sidebar hidden using Maximize content.
  • PR head client: 0 summary requests in 149 seconds in the same hidden state. revealing the sidebar issued a successful summary request.
  • PR head, OS background: 0 summary requests in 95 seconds; foregrounding resumed successful summary requests.
  • short hide/reveal pass preserved the visible #25337 open badge, selected thread, and conversation. the recording shows the real Android composer reply alongside the badge before and after toggling the sidebar.

stored CI snapshot: 29 successful checks, zero failing, zero pending. this pass made no commits or pushes. no battery or CPU-performance claim.

before, github/main, same real conversation with sidebar hidden:

android main before: hidden split sidebar and real codex conversation

after, PR head, same real conversation with sidebar hidden:

android pr head after: hidden split sidebar and real codex conversation

sidebar interaction on the PR head, with the open badge retained:

android sidebar hide and reveal preserves the real pr badge and codex reply

Not verified

iOS cannot run on this Linux VM. cold-hidden first mount, a simultaneous independent visible summary reader, and the distinct iOS inactive state were not exercised. no compact-phone Home polling fix is claimed; that list continued polling and does not use the changed sidebar provider. the long comparison reused the same isolated backend for both client revisions, since this PR changes only mobile code and test configuration. browser player playback and seeking of the uploaded recording passed.
