Problem

Mobile split-view inspectors deactivate and register again during unchanged screen renders because the focus callback depends on an effect event's changing identity. File-screen path normalization also prevents the React Compiler from caching the inspector renderer.

Change

Keep focus and blur subscriptions tied to navigation, while continuing to refresh changed inspector content. Resolve the file path inside the existing workspace hook so the compiler can retain its renderer cache. The production change preserves the original implementation in two files; one regression case extends the existing inspector navigation tests.

Verification

  • Regression reproduced on current main: two unchanged renders caused two unwanted registrations. The same case passes after the fix and covers content updates, blur, refocus, duplicate focus, renderer removal and unmount cleanup.
  • Blacksmith vp run check:changed passed: format, lint, knip, affected typechecks and all 7 inspector navigation tests. Lint reports two existing warnings in the layout file.
  • Blacksmith mobile React Compiler coverage: 953 tests passed.
  • Native split-view integration and performance measurements are unverified: this VM has no connected mobile device. The regression runs the real release-compiled hook under React DOM with navigation and workspace services mocked. No layout, controls or styling changed, so browser screenshots would not demonstrate this native lifecycle fix.

Scope and approval

Maria requested this replacement of #21973. This is a focused fix for repeated inspector registration, with no new capability or product behavior.

Takeover

Replaces #21973, with thanks to @flamboh for the original implementation.

Approvability

Verdict: Needs Human Approval

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — The change keeps mobile split-view inspectors registered across renders and centralizes file-route path normalization. It also adds three lint-suppression directives in AdaptiveWorkspaceLayout.tsx, which require human review.

Walkthrough

The thread-file workspace hook now normalizes route paths and provides the result to the screen. Workspace inspector registration now follows navigation focus and blur events, with lifecycle tests covering registration, updates, deactivation, and cleanup.

Changes: Mobile workspace navigation

Layer / File(s)Summary
Thread-file route path normalization
apps/mobile/src/features/files/ThreadFilesRouteScreen.tsx
The workspace hook accepts a string or string-array path and returns its normalized relativePath. ThreadFileScreen uses that value instead of normalizing the route parameter locally.
Inspector focus lifecycle
apps/mobile/src/features/layout/AdaptiveWorkspaceLayout.tsx, apps/mobile/src/features/threads/thread-inspector-navigation.test.tsx
useRegisterWorkspaceInspector uses navigation focus and blur listeners to manage registration. The test covers repeated renders, callback updates, blur, refocus, clearing the render, and unmount cleanup.

Verified in a real dev environment

no changed behavior could be exercised on this linux vm. this is an unverifiable result, not a runtime approval.

reviewed the diff, description and discussion for this takeover and the original #21973. head 86b780bc924f5f6db2acbffa6580dfd6ded875ce is open and its commit authors are maria-rcks and flamboh; neither excluded maintainer authored a pr commit. git.cafe also identifies this pr as #25197. its reported ci snapshot has 28 successful checks, zero pending and zero failing. those checks do not prove native behavior.

prerequisite checks performed on this vm:

text
1$ adb devices -l
2List of devices attached
3[no devices]
4
5$ t3 device_list
6Agent device access is turned off for this environment.

Not verified

all changed behavior is native mobile: keeping a split-view Files/Git inspector registered during unchanged renders, refreshing changed inspector content, and retaining file-screen renderer caching after route-path normalization. a browser dev server and real codex turns in the web client would not execute these mobile components.

could not reproduce on github/main or verify the pr in a native client. no main worktree, installs, dev server, project/thread data, provider turns, screenshots or recordings were created. the mobile verification skill requires stopping when device access is unavailable. no code was changed or pushed.

still required on a native device with split view: compare main and this exact head using matching real project/thread data and a streaming codex gpt-6.1-sol turn; observe inspector registration stability and content updates; check blur/refocus, file navigation and unmount cleanup. capture the interaction and inspect it before claiming verification. no performance claim is made.

reviewed the diff and discussion. this pr is open at 86b780bc924f5f6db2acbffa6580dfd6ded875ce, with authors maria-rcks and flamboh, and changes shared mobile split-view inspector lifecycle and file-path normalization. neither excluded maintainer authored a pr commit. git.cafe identifies it as #25197.

this pass attempted both device discovery and opening android device t3. both returned:

text
1Device support is off. Ask the user to enable it in the Device panel before installing or starting device tools.

the repository's test-t3-mobile skill requires stopping verification when device tools are unavailable. despite the brief's expectation that access is on, the running tool endpoint rejects access. no emulator, dev server, Metro, install, pairing, project/thread creation or provider turn was started. no screenshots or recording exist. no code was changed or pushed. the stored ci snapshot reports 28 successful checks, zero pending and zero failing; this does not prove native behavior.

Not verified

ios cannot run on this linux vm. android split-view inspector stability during real codex gpt-6.1-sol turns, content updates, blur/refocus, file navigation, cleanup and comparison against github/main remain unverified. device support must be enabled in this environment's Device panel before repeating the native pass. no performance claim is made.

Verified on Android emulator (API 35) against a real dev server

verified head 86b780bc924f5f6db2acbffa6580dfd6ded875ce on the t3 android emulator, expanded to 1920x1200 at density 160 for split view. installed the matching cached dev client and loaded this checkout through metro. paired with an isolated real server on port 13773 using /home/user/t3code/.t3.

created a real git project through the mobile app. two real codex gpt-6.1-sol turns created notes.md and details.md, then read them back and confirmed 3 and 1 lines. no mocks or demo data.

the files inspector remained populated through composer edits, provider activity and completion. opening notes.md, switching to details.md, returning to chat, hiding/showing the inspector and reopening notes.md all worked. file content and the selected row matched. the file list initially needed its existing refresh action after the files were created.

these matching screenshots show notes.md before and after the navigation/provider round trip on the PR head, not a main-versus-head comparison.

notes.md before the navigation and provider round trip

notes.md after the navigation and provider round trip

recording at 2.5x speed shows file switching, returning to chat and the second real provider turn while the inspector stays populated.

android split-view file navigation and real codex turn

no code changes or pushes were needed. existing CI reports 28 successful checks, 0 pending and 0 failing. no local test suite was substituted for this native pass.

Not verified

ios cannot run on this linux VM. no original-bug reproduction on github/main, release-build registration/deactivation counts, compiler cache counts, or performance improvement was measured. this pass verifies native integration and visible inspector behavior, not a quantitative lifecycle/performance claim. desktop, web, remote relay and tunnel were not exercised.

Note

merged github/main (b42adff3d77f) into the existing head without rebasing. resolved the inspector registration conflict by retaining this pr's focus/blur listeners and main's newer per-route/thread pane reveal logic. the diff remains three files.

blacksmith vp run check:changed passed: format, lint, both knip passes, affected typechecks, all seven navigation/lifecycle tests, and six focused compiler checks including the inspector registration-cache assertion. two independent read-only reviews found no blocking issues at b78fc6782d53c19f8ea7dbbff8bd47bd71656b88.

native interaction on the merged head remains unverified: device tools report access is off and adb lists no devices. the earlier android evidence in this discussion covers the original head, not this merge. no web screenshot would exercise these native components. no performance claim is made.

Register only once on an initially focused mount.

If navigation.isFocused() is true, the focus effect calls syncRegistration(). This renderer effect then runs on mount and calls it again. React runs effects on the initial commit, so the same inspector is registered twice. (react.dev)

Skip the renderer effect’s initial synchronization. Keep it active for later renderer changes. Assert the initial registration count before the test clears its mock. As per coding guidelines, “Make sure all changes are considerate of performance impact.”

final head b78fc6782d53c19f8ea7dbbff8bd47bd71656b88: no conflicts, no failing or pending checks. git.cafe reports 31 successful contexts; github reports Macroscope Approvability as neutral with "Needs Human Approval" for the lint directives. stopping under the takeover brief's human-approval rule.

coderabbit's duplicate initial registration finding is valid and minor: both effects register on an initially focused mount, with state updates batched. the independent review also classified it as a nit. leaving it visible for human review rather than changing the head after the stop condition. merged-head native interaction remains unverified because this environment has no available device.
