Unproven: with Remove animations off, the picker still fades and every row renders. I checked this by hand on the F4 but didn't record it. Same for the no-repro runs listed under Evidence.

Closes #23875

Problem

On Android with Settings → Accessibility → Remove animations on, the model picker in thread settings shows blank gaps where models should be. The gaps keep their height and still select the model when tapped. It shows up most with OpenCode because its list is long enough to scroll.

Each catalog row mounts with a Reanimated FadeIn once the list has loaded. With animations removed, Android can leave the row at the fade's starting opacity of 0, so every row that mounts while scrolling stays invisible. #19239 fixed the same failure in the composer toolbar.

Fix

The thread settings sheet now skips its row and option fades when useReducedMotion() is true, the same way #19239 does. Normal motion keeps the fades. Reanimated reads the reduced-motion setting when the app starts, so restart the app after changing it.

Evidence

POCO F4, Android 14, dark mode, Remove animations on. Sandbox server with OpenCode 1.19.4 and 60 test models. I open the picker, expand OpenCode and scroll.

Before: rows that mount while scrolling are blank. The screenshot was taken after tapping a gap, which still selected a model ("Save" appears top right). The video ends before that tap.

After: every row renders while scrolling.

I also checked with Remove animations off: the list still fades and renders normally. Without Remove animations I couldn't reproduce the bug on f4 or m3, in dev or production JS, in light or dark mode.

Checks

  • vp run check:changed: format, lint, knip and typecheck pass.
  • No test added. This is a visual bug, so the captures above are the proof.

Follow-up, not in this PR: PullRequestFiles uses the same entering={animationsReady ? FadeIn : undefined} pattern inside a list and might have the same problem. I haven't checked it.

Approvability

Verdict: Approved at dca2654

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a narrowly scoped mobile picker fix that disables Reanimated fade transitions when reduced motion is enabled, preventing rows from remaining invisible while leaving model and selection behavior unchanged. The one-file change has limited runtime impact and no schema, infrastructure, security, or billing implications.

Explanation

Issue #23875 reports that some OpenCode model rows render as background-colored gaps on Android, and that tapping a gap selects the model. The PR targets this failure mode. In ThreadSettingsSheet.tsx, animationsReady now equals listLoaded && !reducedMotion, where reducedMotion comes from Reanimated's useReducedMotion(). The catalog list's entering props depend on animationsReady, so rows mounted under Remove animations skip the FadeIn that the PR description says leaves rows at opacity 0. Normal motion keeps the fade because reducedMotion is false. The diff confirms the gate and the onLoad change to setListLoaded(true). Two limits apply. First, the diff shows only the animationsReady gate. It does not show every fade the PR description names as skipped ("row and option fades"), so the option-fade path is not confirmed from code. Second, the reproduction and fix rest on the author's device captures. No automated test covers the change, and the issue does not state the reduced-motion condition. The change addresses the reproduced cause within the issue's stated steps.

Explanation

The whole-PR diff against the merge base changes one file, apps/mobile/src/features/threads/ThreadSettingsSheet.tsx. The changes are: adding the useReducedMotion import from react-native-reanimated, renaming the list-load state to listLoaded, deriving animationsReady from listLoaded and reduced motion, and changing the onLoad callback. Each change serves the animation gate for the OpenCode catalog list described in #23875. No unrelated refactoring, dependency change, or other feature change appears in the diff. The PR description names a follow-up in PullRequestFiles. That file is not changed here, so it does not add out-of-scope work.

Explanation

The description clearly explains the problem, fix, reproduction environment, verification steps, observed results, visual evidence, limitations, linked issue, and agent attribution. It uses “Fix,” “Evidence,” and “Checks” instead of the template’s “Change” and “Verification” headings, and it does not include a separate “Scope and approval” heading. The linked issue and focused bug explanation provide the required scope context.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Refresh the reduced-motion value after system setting changes.

useReducedMotion() reads the setting at app startup and does not rerender when Android’s setting changes. If the user enables Remove animations while this process remains alive, reducedMotion can stay false, so later rows still receive FadeIn. Use a live accessibility-setting subscription or remount this screen when the setting changes. (docs.swmansion.com)
