Problem

Mobile workspace navigation only exposes Chats and PRs directly; Usage requires a trip through Settings.

Change

Adds Usage and fixed Settings destinations to the existing native iOS and Android controls. iOS keeps accessible, icon-only UIKit items with the active theme tint and a separate new-chat button beside the bottom bar on single-column Chats. Its empty slot stays reserved on PRs, Usage, and Settings so the bar and icons keep their size across tab changes. In two-column iPad layouts, the tabs fill the sidebar and Compose stays in the detail pane. iPad keeps that bar at the bottom-left of the sidebar; full-width Usage and Settings preserve its position. Settings opens as a page on both platforms. The Duo cover uses one drawer surface across top-level destinations. Android uses its native bottom bar or expandable rail, with Compose only on Chats; Usage and Settings fill the workspace beside the rail.

Only Chats, PRs, and Usage are registered. Home and Issues placeholders are removed. The local ordering/hiding model and editor stay dormant until more than four non-Settings sections are registered (six destinations including Settings); hidden items do not change that threshold.

This is mobile only. Web, desktop, shared client settings, and their routes/editors are unchanged from main.

Stack and review order

Layer 1 of 3; merge first. Rebased on main at eeda2cb2cd, preserving #24239 and #24235.

  1. This PR: real mobile destinations, native navigation, dormant local preferences, and the minimum Duo compose/rail changes needed for the added destinations.
  2. iPad adaptive layout: #24182 (feat/ipad-workspace-layout), depends on this PR.
  3. Duo native bottom search: #24206 (feat/duo-native-search), depends on layer 2.

All three PRs target upstream main and are ready for review. Their branches live in a contributor fork, so GitHub cannot use the parent fork branch as an upstream PR base. Later layers therefore have cumulative GitHub diffs until their parents merge; their descriptions link isolated layer comparisons. Do not merge later layers first.

Verification

  • vp run check:changed: passed (format, lint, knip, affected typechecks, 56 focused tests across the integrated stack).
  • vp run lint:mobile: passed (SwiftLint, Ktlint, Detekt).
  • Built and installed matching native clients on iOS and Android. Verified real destinations and accessible native controls on regular iPhone, iPad portrait/landscape, Duo cover/interior, Android phone, and folded/unfolded Android.
  • Confirmed stale Home/Issues preferences normalize safely and customization remains disabled below the registration threshold.
  • Demo fixtures only in public captures. No real work threads or device hostnames.

Current navigation evidence

Earlier integrated capture (3af154d1ca): wide single-column window with Compose matching the navigation pill height and staying beside its edge. The historical comparisons below retain their original revisions.

Current wide single-column iPad navigation

Continuous iPad resize recording shows single-column Compose beside the bar and a full-width sidebar bar after the window becomes two columns. The detail pane supplies New Task for a selected thread or New Thread when empty.

Full-screen iPad tab-switch recording verifies identical native tab rectangles across Chats, PRs, Usage, and Settings with no Compose slot in two-column windows.

22-second native tab-switch recording keeps one 410 × 1032-point window fixed while switching PRs → Usage → Settings → Chats. Native tab rectangles are identical across all four destinations. Compose appears only on Chats, with its slot reserved elsewhere. Usage is filtered to an empty selection for this navigation capture.

Settings scroll-through capture and reachable final row show that bottom clearance belongs to the scroll content, without shrinking the viewport into an opaque strip.

The same fixed-frame check passed on iPhone across all four destinations. Android rail Compose also appeared only on Chats. Settings list/detail navigation is deferred to a fourth PR.

Before / after

Matched captures from main and this layer in three themes. The later iPad and Duo search changes are intentionally separate.

Current rebase validation

Rebased onto main at ff1f6fd884, including Julius’s UIKit-managed list insets (#24284) and fixed Duo Home/PR headers (#24295). Those four list implementations remain identical to main. Focused checks pass; the integrated native rerun is in progress. Earlier screenshots and recordings below retain their original capture revisions.

🟡 Medium workspace/WorkspaceRootScreen.tsx:100

On an iOS Duo with system tabs, the list’s bottom padding is too small, so its final rows remain hidden behind the always-visible search field and cannot scroll fully into view. compactTabs is false and systemTabBar is true here, so this branch reserves only the bottom inset plus 16 points, while WorkspaceToolbar renders a 48-point search field above the Duo bar inset. Preserve both the search-field height and Duo bar inset in bottomClearance.

Remove the Android search action on Usage.

When a user selects Usage, the header labels this action “Search pull requests.” Pressing it sends focusSearch, although Usage does not support workspace search. Show the action only for Threads and Pull Requests, with the matching label. As per coding guidelines, users notice “a stale label.”

apps/mobile/src/features/workspace/WorkspaceRootScreen.tsx:114-115 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Preserve keyboard clearance for compact tabs.

When compactTabs is true, the bottom-clearance calculation ignores keyboardHeight. The home and pull-request lists use this value for bottom padding, so the keyboard can cover lower search results.
