Problem

When a usage-limited thread has snooze and auto-resume armed for the same reset, the web banner hides its snooze action. The separate status row can wake the thread, but the recovery banner offers only Cancel auto-resume. Matching stale snooze metadata also stays active in the banner after the reset.

Change

Keep the banner’s snooze action visible as Wake now while its matching snooze is active. Treat that snooze as expired when the existing reset timer fires, then show disabled Snooze until reset. Waking preserves auto-resume. Desktop shares this web component; mobile already exposes the wake action.

Scope and approval

Fixes https://github.com/pingdotgg/t3code/issues/21397

Triaged bug via the automated issue flow; GitCafe issue #21397.

Verification

  • Seeder follow-up: python3 scripts/seed-issue-21397.py --home /tmp/issue-21397-fixture matching copies a stopped migrated worktree database into a new fixture home, seeds only the copy, and prints its dev command. Existing destinations and live-home paths are refused; the source is never opened by SQLite or changed. Default timestamps preserve the evidence clock (limit hit at 2026-10-22T19:00:00Z; reset at 2026-10-23T08:50:00Z); add --now for current-time reproduction or --now ISO for a chosen clock. python3 -I scripts/seed-issue-21397.test.py: four passing tests covering source preservation, destination/source refusals, failed-seed cleanup, all modes and clocks. Production source and captured render paths are unchanged.

  • Reproduced in the real Linux web dev app on main e54e71d725 with an isolated synthetic usage-limit failure and matching recovery state.

  • Focused lint, formatting, and web TypeScript check passed. Focused server recovery tests: 15 passed. No new component wiring tests; visual and interaction proof below. The lead also verified both-armed → wake → re-snooze → cancel in the real app and checked persisted snooze/auto-resume state.

  • Two independent code reviews returned MERGE with no blocking findings. The corrected proof set passed an independent SUFFICIENT audit.

  • The committed fixture and seeding script rebuild the synthetic stopped thread in worktree-local state.

Evidence uses real base e54e71d725 and implementation 42a6c6fa99; fixture-only follow-up 21f167ed8c. Current main was merged afterward; the banner source is identical to the captured implementation, and scoped checks were rerun on the merged head. Fixture matrix. Evidence index with rendering environment, timestamped steps, every visible difference, and limits.

The expected visible difference is the wake/snooze action and the neighboring action shifting to accommodate it. The index declares incidental capture differences, including relative sidebar timestamps, a light-theme icon hover/antialias difference, and existing composer collapse/expansion during interaction. Zero-threshold amplified and threshold-16 diff views are linked per pair. Recordings have timestamped text narration.

Mounted expiry and opening the thread after expiry passed with stale metadata retained. Direct reload under the artificial future clock remains unverified because the clock override disrupted auth bootstrap. No native mobile or Electron-specific code changed.

Approvability

Verdict: Approved at f4553dc

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a narrowly scoped UI bug fix that exposes the existing wake action for active usage-limit snoozes without changing schemas, defaults, or production infrastructure. The added fixture and seeder are development-only tooling, with timestamp shifting and safety tests included.

📝 Walkthrough

The usage-limit recovery banner now checks snooze state against the reset time and keeps a snooze action visible. A fixture and seeding script define a recovery scenario for a migrated database. Tests cover seeding modes, timestamp options, and safety checks.

Changes: Usage-limit recovery

Layer / File(s)Summary
Update snooze action state
apps/web/src/components/chat/UsageLimitRecoveryBanner.tsx
A matching snooze is active only until the reset time. The banner shows “Wake now” for an active snooze and “Snooze until reset” otherwise.
Define and seed the recovery scenario
scripts/fixtures/issue-21397.json, scripts/seed-issue-21397.py
The fixture adds a usage-limit thread and related projections. The script seeds the fixture into a migrated database and supports matching, absent, and unrelated snooze modes.
Test seeding modes and safeguards
scripts/seed-issue-21397.test.py
Tests cover snooze modes, timestamp options, source preservation, destination and source restrictions, and cleanup after a failed seed.

Change: Bug fix

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to f4553

The recovery fixture remains usable with --now. Adding an assertion for the shifted failure timestamp would protect that workflow against regression; the gap does not currently block merging.

Explanation

The description includes all required sections: Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification. It explains the bug and expected behavior, links the triaged issue, documents focused checks and observed results, includes UI screenshots and interaction recordings, states unverified coverage, and identifies the models and harnesses used. The scope section does not include a specific maintainer approval comment, but the description is otherwise complete and sufficiently detailed.

  • test(web): issue 21397 seeder needs --replace and can shift its clock5ee003e

Addressed both fixture-tooling findings in 5ee003ee9d: seeding requires explicit --replace before clearing worktree projections; optional --now shifts columns and nested payload timestamps together. Defaults preserve the recorded evidence dates. Synthetic SQLite checks confirmed refusal leaves sentinel data unchanged, symlinks are refused, all three modes work, and shifted reset/snooze/failure dates agree. Production UI code is unchanged.

  • test(web): issue 21397 seeder writes only to a new fixture home07892a7

Removed the in-place data-loss path in 07892a7a2f. The seeder now requires --home NEW_DIR, refuses an existing destination, copies the stopped migrated database, and applies all deletes/inserts only inside that newly created home. --replace no longer exists. Four synthetic on-disk tests pass; both independent reviewers also verified retained-WAL recovery and source DB/WAL/SHM byte preservation. Production UI and fixture JSON are unchanged.

  • test(web): issue 21397 seeder closes SQLite before failure cleanupf4553dc

Fixed connection cleanup in f4553dc1e2: transaction commit/rollback now finishes before contextlib.closing closes the connection, and failed-seed directory removal runs afterward. The existing failure test now rejects cleanup with any open connection and preserves the original database error. It fails on the prior implementation; all four tests pass with the fix. Both fresh reviewers approved. No production UI changes.

90-120: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Assert the shifted failure.resetAt in the matching fixture.

The CLI test checks only snoozedUntil. It does not inspect the seeded usage-limit failure in orchestration_v2_projection_turn_items. A regression that shifts snoozedUntil but leaves failure.resetAt frozen would pass the current --now cases. The server requires that failure timestamp to remain aligned with the recovery timestamp, and the matching snooze path requires it to align with snoozedUntil.

Reviewed the final test-coverage nitpick at f4553dc1e2. The extra failure.resetAt assertion is deferred as nonblocking coverage: the seeder already shifts both thread and turn-item payloads recursively. A fresh independent audit ran all four tests plus nine synthetic database probes across three modes and frozen/offset/current clocks, with 330 timestamp comparisons; failure/recovery resets aligned throughout, matching snooze equaled both, and source snapshots stayed unchanged. No implementation defect was found.
