Problem

Mobile Add Project fails when a home-relative destination is already registered: Local folder shows “Failed to mutate project”, and Clone attempts the occupied destination. Absolute local duplicates also show a redundant alert. Reproduce with New thread → Add project → Local folder or Git URL, then submit an existing project root as ~/…/.

Change

Resolve home-relative paths through the host’s existing folder browser before comparing registered roots. Reuse the matching project’s new-task draft before creating or cloning, preserving any supplied prompt. If prompt-draft storage fails, the clone screen keeps the prompt and shows the error for retry. Local-folder and both clone implementations share the lookup; new destinations retain their existing creation behavior. Includes bare HOME and Windows home-prefix handling and a reproducible fixture script.

Scope and approval

Fixes #23246

Triaged bug via the automated issue flow: GitCafe issue #23246. Mobile-only fix for the reported existing-destination behavior.

Verification

  • Red proof: four issue tests failed on baseline, while three existing tests passed. HOME and Windows regressions were also run red before their fixes.
  • Final focused vp test run src/features/projects/AddProjectScreen.test.ts: 10 passed, including failed draft storage and successful retry. Targeted lint and mobile typecheck passed in both final independent code reviews; both returned MERGE.
  • vp run check:changed: passed — format, lint, knip, mobile/scripts typechecks, and 11 tests across two files on the latest head.
  • Real isolated server reproduced duplicate creation rejection; real EAS iOS app reproduced the failures before and opened the existing draft afterward. Primary integrated check also opened the registered HOME project without an alert.
  • Full evidence index, narrated steps/timestamps, environment, fixture and identity/RPC audit. Fixture matrix.

Evidence

EAS iPhone 17, iOS 26.5, portrait/light, 402×874 logical; recordings 1206×2622, screenshots 402×874. Baseline a50cd989ae; candidate artifact 7c0efc9c5e. Fixture commit follows the artifact; current main was subsequently merged without changing the fix files. Captures describe those artifact SHAs, rather than claiming a rebuilt post-merge artifact.

Bare HOME also has before and after recordings.

Capture limits and unverified coverage

Four of eleven matrix rows have paired native recordings; HOME is an additional regression pair. N1/N2 are candidate-only controls. C2/P2/N3 (legacy clone capability), E1 (browse unavailable), and E2 (second environment) remain unverified. Android and a Windows host remain unverified (cannot-verify android, cannot-verify windows-host); unit tests cover both clone implementations and Windows path normalization. Dark theme and other viewports were not captured. No native claim is made for these missing rows.

What else changed: status clock was not frozen; keyboard visibility, caret/field scroll, folder-list scroll and focus differ. Error forms become draft screens as intended. Sessions/tunnel origin changed after recovery. HOME was registered before candidate checks; N1/N2 later added control projects. One baseline input frame contains an earlier error banner; L2 input was recovered from video with codec noise. The full index discloses these differences and pixel metrics. No claim that nothing else changed or that the full matrix passed.

Proof-audit pass 2: incomplete, with L1 independently reproduced, all ten delivered diff metrics recomputed exactly, and 30 artifact hashes matched. C2/P2/N3/E1/E2 remain unverified; N1 returns to the picker before selection, N2 transient progress was not captured, and frozen-clock conditions were unmet. Legacy real prompt-link callers omit the prompt; the route-level unit test does not prove real legacy-link preservation. The independent reproduction retained an earlier draft prompt, unlike the published empty-composer HOME pair.

Independent audit and primary integrated recordings:

audit-L1-video-check.png audit-L1-retry.mp4 audit-reproduction-metrics.json lead-native-home.mp4

Post-review follow-up: unique default fixture roots and rejection of unrelated existing directories passed isolated real-CLI checks. Prompt-storage failure/retry is unit-tested; no updated native artifact or native failure-path capture was produced. Success-path recordings remain at the explicitly stated artifact SHA.

Approvability

Verdict: Approved at 2d219bb

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a contained mobile bug fix that resolves home-relative paths and opens already-registered projects instead of attempting duplicate creation or cloning. New destinations retain their existing behavior, and focused tests cover the supported path and prompt scenarios.

You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more.

Checked the clone-bypass behavior against the reported requirement and current diff: an existing registered destination opens its draft before either clone implementation, with the supplied prompt retained. No correctness change is needed for this comment. The human-approval gate remains in place; native verification gaps are listed in Verification.

📝 Walkthrough

The mobile project flows resolve eligible home-relative paths before checking for existing projects. When a match is found, the app opens its task draft instead of creating or cloning the project. Tests cover path variants, prompts, and draft-load failure and retry. A fixture script creates or reuses local project fixtures.

Changes: Mobile existing-project lookup

The script validates or creates fixture repositories, registers one project, and prints paths for the fixture directories and clone locations.

Adding or cloning an existing home-relative project may fail when folder browsing is unavailable. This is mergeable with owner awareness of that limitation.

Explanation

The description includes the required Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification sections. It explains the affected flows, linked issue, focused tests, broader checks, evidence, and known unverified cases.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Direct issue #23246 requires a web composer change. The required behavior is to let the composer rest below a collapsed pending question, keep a focused answer editor open during scroll, preserve answer text and selected options when reopened, and keep the multiline rule unchanged. The reviewed changes modify only mobile Add Project screens, tests, and a fixture script. They do not implement or test the required web composer behavior.

Resolution

Implement and test the web composer requirements from issue #23246, or link this pull request to the mobile issue that covers existing-project Add Project behavior.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes are outside the scope of directly linked issue #23246. They resolve mobile home-relative paths, reuse existing project drafts, change local-folder and clone flows, add retry handling, and add a mobile fixture script. These changes do not support the linked web composer objective.

Resolution

Remove the mobile Add Project and fixture changes from this pull request, or move them to a pull request linked to the matching mobile project issue. Keep this pull request limited to the web composer scope in issue #23246.

The mobile scope comes from GitCafe issue #23246, whose title is “Mobile Add Project fails when the destination is already a project”. GitHub issue #23246 is a different web-composer report. This PR is linked directly to the GitCafe mobile issue; the web-composer requirements are outside this fix. The three inline findings are being checked against the source.

  • fix(mobile): preserve prompts when existing project drafts fail2d219bb

Addressed all three inline findings in 2d219bb022: failed prompt-draft creation keeps the screen and prompt, shows the error, and permits retry; default fixture roots are unique; existing nonfixture directories are rejected before either target changes. The regression failed before the fix and all 10 focused mobile tests pass. Isolated real-CLI fixture checks and check:changed pass (11 tests across two files, format, lint, knip and affected typechecks). The new error path remains unverified natively.
