π©Ί Stability & Availability | π‘ Minor | β‘ Quick win
Add a timeout to the cached profile-key lookup.
readWindowsKey calls unwrapWindowsDpapiKey. That function starts powershell.exe and waits for stdout, stderr, and exitCode with no timeout (ChromiumKeys.ts:180-235). This change puts that call on the catalog get and set paths after native decryption fails.
- If PowerShell hangs, the cached
keyseffect never completes. Example causes are a group policy, an antivirus hold, or a stuck DPAPI prompt. - Every caller waits on the same cached effect.
store.getandstore.setthen hang for the rest of the session. - The user sees no error, so the saved connections do not load and the local environment does not register.
Effect.option handles typed failures only, not a process that never exits. Put a bounded timeout on each lookup. A timed-out lookup then becomes Option.none(), and the store returns the existing ElectronSafeStorageDecryptError path.

β Addressed in commit 24c644b
Fixed in 24c644b: each profile lookup now has a ten-second cancellation deadline before Effect.option. Existing scoped process cleanup is retained and awaited. One deterministic TestClock/Deferred case proves stalled stable β healthy Alpha recovery, both-candidate failure returning the original native error, cached misses, and preservation of catalog bytes. Removing the timeout produces the expected assertion failure without hanging. All 35 focused cases, desktop typecheck, lint and formatting pass; both fresh full-diff reviewers found no code blockers. This verifies simulated interruption, not a hard wall-clock bound for native Windows process cleanup; native Windows proof and human encryption approval remain outstanding.
@juliusmarminge Thanks for the fix in 24c644b. The per-profile cancellation deadline and deterministic regression test address this finding. Native Windows process cleanup timing remains unverified; the simulated interruption test does not establish a hard wall-clock bound.
