Keep archived setup runs pending for release after unarchive.

If setup finishes while its thread is archived, ThreadLaunchService dispatches prepared-run.release once. The guard rejects it, and schedulePreparation then dispatches prepared-run.fail, so the same run cannot be released after unarchive. Preserve the run in preparing so it can be explicitly released after unarchive, and cover this path through ThreadLaunchService.

Your trace through schedulePreparation is correct: a rejected release invokes prepared-run.fail. The PR description and direct-dispatch retry test incorrectly suggested that the normal launcher would preserve that run for resumption. I have corrected the description and replaced that artificial retry assertion with a regression through the real ThreadLaunchService and ThreadManagementService.

The regression blocks setup with deferred signals, archives the thread, completes setup, and waits on persisted preparation events. It verifies that the run fails, no provider turn or checkpoint scope is created, and the rejected release has no outbox effects. After unarchive, a fresh send starts a distinct run and enqueues provider-turn.start. Without the guard, the same regression fails with starting instead of failed.

I am retaining the archive guard: preventing provider work from starting after archive is the bug reported in the original Macroscope finding. The existing archive path cancels queued delivery and detaches provider sessions (see Orchestrator.ts around the "done with this thread" comment); unarchive does not currently re-release completed preparations. Parking a run and adding a release-on-unarchive workflow would be a separate behavior change, and simply removing the archive rejection would restore the original bug.

Validation: 46 focused tests pass with one worker; server typecheck passes; targeted lint and formatting pass (only pre-existing warnings). Fallow audit results are reported in the updated PR description.

@Lucenx9 Thanks for the clarification. My trace was correct, but my recommendation assumed a resumption contract that does not exist. I withdraw the finding. The agent prompt’s instruction to remove the archive rejection was also incorrect; that would restore the original bug.

Keep the archive guard. The launcher regression you describe covers the relevant behavior: release rejection prevents provider work, prepared-run.fail ends the preparation, and a fresh send after unarchive starts a distinct run. Preserving and resuming the original run would require a separate behavior change.

5Learning: In apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/ThreadLaunchService.ts, schedulePreparation dispatches prepared-run.fail when prepared-run.release is rejected. The archive guard in apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Orchestrator.ts intentionally prevents checkpoint preparation and provider work after archive. Unarchiving does not re-release completed preparations; a fresh send can start a distinct run. Do not recommend removing the archive guard or assume that archived preparations must remain resumable.
