Repair handoff

The tested repair is published on the repaired branch at c951bfda7e0f1a9b300c1e2b0637c450cabe1f9f. The local worktree is clean.

GitHub no longer associates this PR with its deleted source repository. Recreating the fork did not restore that association, and reopening still returns Could not open the pull request. (reopenPullRequest). This PR's head remains eaf673e0c8d90a969f863f6e30170fa2eec2e606; the repair branch and evidence below are published separately. No replacement PR has been opened.

The handoff below records the completed repair and current evidence. The requested Claude rewrite remains blocked by Claude authentication.

Codex can advertise Daybreak access for an account and model, but T3 Code had no way to choose it. This adds Red / Blue / Off to the existing traits menu on web and desktop, and Options on mobile. Unavailable choices stay visible and locked.

Codex receives the selected program on native turns, including resumed turns and goals. Choices are checked against the current account and model; saved preferences stay with their environment. Project defaults and scheduled tasks keep the full selection.

Focused tests and scoped typechecks pass. Verified in T3 Code's Browser panel and native Android, including choosing Blue, saving, reopening, switching Off, and switching environments. The UI evidence uses a catalog fixture; native request forwarding is covered by adapter and transport tests.

Choosing Blue and saving on Android β€” 24 seconds at 2Γ— playback.

Implemented and verified with GPT-6.1-Sol through the Codex harness in T3 Code.

Original submission description

Codex advertises Daybreak access per account and model, but T3 Code did not expose or forward it. This follows the maintainer's invitation on #14439.

Choose Daybreak through the existing traits menu on web/desktop or the Options row on mobile.

  • Eligible models show Red / Blue / Off in a consistent order. Unavailable choices stay visible, dimmed and locked, and cannot be selected. Off is disabled when the catalog does not advertise standard treatment.
  • Native turns validate the choice against the selected account and model, including resume and goal startup. Mobile refreshes staged capabilities, removes revoked choices, and saves cleared option memory so stale programs do not return.
  • Single-project defaults and scheduled tasks retain the full selection. Custom models do not inherit access; CLI text generation, source-control writing, and review-guide controls omit Daybreak.

Screenshots

Before: current main (58d2532). After: this PR. Both use GPT-6-Luna with High reasoning; the After view uses a Blue-only catalog.

Lossless PNGs captured at 200% browser scale, cropped without resizing. Click for full resolution.

Verification

  • Focused tests cover advertised choices, unavailable choices, custom models, option retention, memory clearing, serialization, resume, and native goals.
  • Five scoped native typechecks, changed-file lint, formatting, and whitespace checks pass. Lint retains existing warnings.
  • Browser verification covers blocked Red selection, Blue/Off switching, reopening, and preserved High reasoning using the cached Blue-only catalog. Red-only, dual-program, and color-only catalogs have fixture coverage.
  • Native mobile UI and a live Daybreak turn remain untested. CI and previews require maintainer approval for the fork.

Reviewed and simplified with GPT-6 Astra Pro in ChatGPT; verified and revised with GPT-6.1-Sol in T3 Code through the Codex harness.

Walkthrough

This change adds Daybreak model choices to Codex capability descriptors and carries selections through web and mobile settings into Codex V2 turn-start parameters. It also adds controls for choice visibility, disabled options, refreshed model catalogs, and saved selections.

Changes

Codex Daybreak flow

Layer / File(s)Summary
Model capabilities and shared option choices
apps/server/src/provider/CodexProvider.ts, apps/server/src/provider/CodexProvider.test.ts, packages/shared/src/model.ts, packages/shared/src/model.test.ts
Eligible Codex models expose a Daybreak option descriptor. Shared display choices label Red, Blue, and Off, and mark choices as disabled when the model does not advertise them. Custom-model capabilities omit the descriptor.
Web trait selection and display
apps/web/src/components/chat/TraitsPicker.tsx, apps/web/src/components/chat/TraitsPicker.test.ts, apps/web/src/components/chat/composerProviderState.tsx, apps/web/src/components/chat/composerProviderState.test.tsx
The picker supports controlling Daybreak visibility, displays disabled provider choices, and includes Daybreak in the selected trait label. Codex composer state selects reasoning effort as its primary select descriptor.
Web settings and scheduled-task selections
apps/web/src/components/settings/ProjectDefaultsSettings.tsx, apps/web/src/components/settings/SettingsPanels.tsx, apps/web/src/components/settings/SourceControlWritingSettings.tsx, apps/web/src/components/settings/ScheduledTasksSettings.tsx, apps/web/src/components/settings/scheduledTasksSettings.logic.ts
Settings callers configure Daybreak visibility. The scheduled-task editor can edit model options and submits the active model selection, retaining options when the provider and model match.
Mobile model staging and option memory
apps/mobile/src/features/threads/ThreadSettingsSheet.tsx, apps/mobile/src/features/threads/thread-settings-sheet-state.ts, apps/mobile/src/features/threads/thread-settings-sheet-state.test.ts, apps/mobile/src/features/threads/ThreadSettingsRows.shared.tsx, apps/mobile/src/features/threads/thread-settings-options.ts, apps/mobile/src/features/threads/ThreadComposer.tsx, apps/mobile/src/features/threads/new-task-flow-provider.tsx, apps/mobile/src/state/use-model-option-memory.ts, apps/mobile/src/state/use-model-option-memory.test.ts
Mobile settings resolve staged models against refreshed catalog data and remove unsupported staged Daybreak values. Disabled choices update row behavior and appearance. Remembered model options can be cleared with an empty selection.
V2 turn-start program forwarding
packages/effect-codex-app-server/src/client.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Adapters/CodexAdapterV2.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Adapters/CodexAdapterV2.test.ts, apps/server/src/provider/Drivers/CodexDriver.ts, apps/server/src/provider/Drivers/CodexManagedProvider.ts
The turn-start schema accepts cyberAccessProgram. The adapter resolves saved selections against the current model catalog, uses an advertised standard fallback when available, and returns a protocol error if a requested value is unavailable and no fallback exists.

Merge Risk: πŸ”΅ Low Β· up to eaf67

The Daybreak flow now validates saved selections against the current model catalog before they are saved or sent on a turn. A few narrow picker gaps may remain, such as the toggle being hidden in the mobile All providers view and a stale option surviving a same-model re-pick on web. These are localized UI issues with workarounds and are unlikely to cause serious failures.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: πŸ”΅ Low Β· up to eaf67

Unsupported selections are checked again before execution, while existing approval and isolation controls remain intact. No security bypass was established. Capability freshness during account changes and upstream enforcement remain incompletely verified.

Retained concerns No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred β€” The inspected attackable input is a client-supplied program selection, including one persisted in a scheduled task. Its execution effect is scoped by provider-instance matching, model lookup and advertised protocol values; it does not replace the separate runtime approval and sandbox policies.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed β€” The native execution boundary resolves selections against server-owned capabilities before turn/start. Fresh turns, resumed turns and goal startup share this path. The protocol states that authorization and model-tier restrictions remain upstream-owned; that statement is not verification of the upstream implementation.
  • observed β€” Disabled Daybreak entries are presentation-only choices absent from the advertised descriptor. Mobile option application and staged cleanup both check advertised choice membership, so the investigated disabled-entry scenario does not establish an entitlement bypass.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed β€” Authentication terminal states trigger snapshot refresh, including recovery after an interrupted sign-out probe. Catalog probing nevertheless permits cached metadata after a refresh timeout. Execution-time snapshot validation therefore does not itself prove immediate revocation enforcement or atomic coupling between account changes and catalog replacement.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed β€” Validate account switching and entitlement revocation end to end with cached catalogs, interrupted refreshes and saved-task replay. Confirm that upstream authorization rejects unavailable programs even while local metadata is stale, and document the intended fallback behavior.

Both actionable findings are fixed in 33cd85206d, with focused regression and replay coverage. The PR now uses a Daybreak switch inside the model selector, and revised before/after screenshots are attached.

The generic docstring coverage threshold is not a repository requirement. These helpers are described by their types, nearby usage comments, and behavioral tests; documentation stays focused on usage under AGENTS.md.

do we need a toggle? does the app server not give us the models only if the user can access them?

Synced from GitHub

The app-server catalog determines eligibility, but eligible base models advertise more than one treatment. On the account used for verification, gpt-6-sol and gpt-6-luna each advertise availableAccessPrograms.cyber: ["standard", "daybreakBlue"]; the dedicated Daybreak model is listed separately.

The native contract describes those programs as caller-specific explicit choices (model discovery), and has a separate per-turn treatment enum (turn contract). Selecting the base model alone does not express that choice.

This toggle filters to the account's advertised eligible models and attaches the native program only when one is selected. Toggling itself leaves the current selection untouched; authorization stays with Codex. The toggle UI follows the requested design, while eligibility comes entirely from model discovery.

Thanks for rebuilding this on V2. One catalog case looks worth addressing before merge. OpenAI documents both Daybreak Blue and Daybreak Red; Red has separate approval, and the requested program must match the model.

The app-server descriptor can advertise standard, daybreakBlue, and daybreakRed, but getCodexDaybreakState chooses Blue when both are present and no Red choice is already saved. The web and mobile pickers expose only an On/Off switch, so a user cannot newly choose Red for a model that advertises both. Red-only models do resolve to Red; the gap is the dual-program case. Could the UI use Off / On when the selected account and model advertise only one Daybreak program, and Off / Blue / Red when they advertise both? That would also make the requested treatment clear to the user.

I'd also offer the model-first flow from #13285 as an alternative to this PR's picker filter: keep the full model list, then put the Daybreak choice in the traits/options menu beside reasoning and service tier, visible only for the selected account and model. Turning it on would leave the model unchanged. If a model change would clear an active Daybreak choice, show Cancel/OK before applying it. The same choice should be reachable on mobile. I described that flow on #14439 too.

These screenshots from #13285 show the suggested placement on web/desktop and mobile, plus the three-way choice and colored composer state when both programs are advertised. The both-program images use a local catalog fixture; the live account used for that PR advertised Blue only.

Synced from GitHub

I understand your issue @PixPMusic I don't want to expand the drop down for reasoning/fast mode selection as that easily becomes messy fast. A toggle here deals with a majority of use cases and keeps things simple. I'll look into the addition of red, possible a prioritisation system.

I see the concern about making the reasoning/fast menu too long. I still think Daybreak belongs with the selected provider’s options rather than in the model picker, but if it has to go into the model picker, a compact control could show Off / On when the account and model offer one Daybreak program, or Off / Blue / Red when they offer both. A priority rule would make that choice for the user, whereas a segmented control is easy to adapt.

I’d also suggest keeping the full model catalog visible, as in #13285. That PR used the existing pending-change behavior to warn before switching to a model or provider that would clear an active Daybreak selection. Cancel kept the current selection; OK applied the switch. That lets people browse every model while making the loss of Daybreak explicit.

Just commenting to add my vote for this feature. Currently can't use T3 when doing security reviews since I need to use daybreak for anything useful on that front.

apps/web/src/components/chat/ModelPickerContent.tsx:107 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟑 Minor | ⚑ Quick win

Clear an obsolete program when the selected model loses Daybreak access.

If the current selection contains daybreakBlue and the current catalog no longer advertises Daybreak for that model, choosing the same model reuses current. Passing undefined to withCodexDaybreakProgram leaves daybreakBlue in the selection sent to onInstanceModelChange. Remove the obsolete option when the target has no Daybreak programs; preserve the other options.

  • fix(codex): clear revoked Daybreak options on model selectioneba7c9b
Synced from GitHub

Fixed the revoked-access finding in eba7c9b3ca. Reselecting a model without advertised Daybreak programs now removes cyberAccessProgram while preserving reasoning and service-tier options. Regression cases cover revoked Blue and Red access with missing or empty program lists. All 36 picker tests, the web typecheck, and targeted lint pass.

The helper already has a behavior comment. I’m treating the generic docstring coverage warning as advisory because meeting a blanket percentage would add boilerplate beyond the repository’s guidance for focused comments and minimal changes.

  • chore: merge main and preserve Daybreak turn configurationbebb117
Synced from GitHub

Merged current main (f973b1d7d5) in bebb117d8c and resolved the conflict by keeping Daybreak validation in the shared Codex turn-start helper. Ordinary turns and native goal startup both retain account-specific Blue/Red/Off behavior. The replay test now covers goal startup and continuation with each program; the web assertion matches main's new Fast label.

All 328 focused tests, five scoped typechecks, and targeted lint/formatting passed, with existing warnings. The HQ evidence remains in the description.

Clear unsupported Daybreak values on every same-key return path.

A same-key press can retain the staged value when the pressed model has no Daybreak state. The unsupported-program guard also returns input.current, bypassing cleanup applied only to pressed. The settings sheet saves the stale value to remembered model options and the draft selection. The Codex adapter normalizes it against current capabilities, but the saved value can become active if the catalog advertises it again. Clear it on both paths.

Read the model catalog only when the selection belongs to this instance.

startNativeTurn evaluates adapterOptions.models on every turn. It does this before it checks selection.instanceId === adapterOptions.instanceId. The catalog result is only needed when that check passes. If the models hook does real work, such as a provider refresh, every turn start pays that cost even when the result is discarded. Check the instance first.

Fixed both findings in f5cf1b643a:

  • The native adapter checks account ownership before evaluating the model catalog. The existing other-account test now fails if that hook runs, covering initial and resumed turns.

All 373 targeted tests pass (211 web, 162 adapter), along with server/web typechecks and formatting. Targeted lint passes with warnings. A fresh Browser pass could not run because its automation host became unavailable; the PR description records that limitation.

If a user stages Blue and a catalog refresh then removes Blue, canCommitPendingModel still accepts the available model key. Save remembers the stale Blue option and sends it to onSelectModel without another press to clean it. Validate pendingModel.selection against the current row in props.providerGroups before both operations. Preserve unrelated options when removing a revoked program.

  • fix(mobile): revalidate staged Daybreak access before saving41372d9

@coderabbitai review

Fixed the outside-diff Save finding in 41372d9853. Save resolves the staged selection against the current catalog before remembering options and applying it, reusing the existing cleanup. Revoked choices are removed; reasoning and fresh metadata are retained. Empty Daybreak cleanup explicitly clears memory so downstream restoration cannot bring Blue back; ordinary empty saves keep their existing memory behavior.

Regression coverage includes retained/revoked access, removed descriptors, and cleanup with and without reasoning options. All 17 focused tests, mobile typecheck, targeted lint, and formatting pass.

The updated traits UI still needs current web and native-mobile evidence; the description says the earlier screenshots show the replaced picker. Please add before/after images and a short recording of choosing a Daybreak option and saving it on mobile, as required by the verification guide.

@coderabbitai review

Updated in eaf673e0c8: Daybreak stays in existing trait controls, with Red / Blue / Off consistently visible and unsupported choices disabled and locked. The display helper leaves advertised capabilities unchanged. Mobile derives staged metadata and choices from the current catalog and clears stale remembered options on Save. Focused regression tests, scoped native typechecks, and browser verification pass. The PR description now includes verified high-resolution screenshots of the current traits-menu design.
