What Changed

Codex models now expose a Daybreak control only when the signed-in account and that model advertise access. A single available program appears as Off/On; when both are available, the choices are Off/Red/Blue. Web and desktop show the selected state beside Fast mode, and mobile offers the same choice in thread settings. Switching to a model without the selected program asks for confirmation: Cancel keeps the current model and Daybreak setting; OK switches models and resets Daybreak.

The server sends the selected access program on each Codex turn. For eligible models, Off sends an explicit standard program so the displayed default matches the request. Custom models do not inherit unverified Daybreak access.

Why

Codex app-server model discovery provides caller-specific availableAccessPrograms.cyber, and turn/start accepts cyberAccessProgram. T3 previously ignored both, leaving Daybreak inaccessible through its clients.

Codex models whose only selectable capability is cyberAccessProgram return null before getDaybreakTriggerSelection runs, so the account-gated Daybreak control cannot be rendered or changed. shouldRenderTraitsControls computes hasAnyControls without recognizing cyberAccessProgram; include that descriptor when determining whether the traits controls should render.

No longer relevant as of e4f6b25ebdb305caf2be262f768eeba825fc7062

Verified against the current code: getSelectedTraits makes the first select descriptor the primarySelectDescriptor. If Daybreak is the only descriptor, showEffort is therefore true and hasAnyControls is true. TraitsMenuContent then renders all select descriptors, including Daybreak. The showEffort name is inherited from the older model options, but it does not filter out Daybreak.

Codex model discovery now exposes eligible Daybreak programs as model options. Web and mobile clients carry supported selections across model changes and request confirmation when a switch resets an active program. Provider dispatch forwards valid selections to Codex turn-start parameters.

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 47919

Supported Daybreak settings remain selected during mobile model changes, and unsupported settings require confirmation before reset. No actionable merge risk is established for this change.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 47919

The selected program is checked against the model’s advertised access before a turn is sent. No unauthorized forwarding was established. It remains unclear how quickly access changes take effect during an active session or whether the destination independently enforces them.

Retained concerns No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The relevant exposure is a selected Codex program on a turn routed to a configured provider instance. Instance matching and catalog-model filtering limit the observed forwarding path; the downstream service’s entitlement decision was not available.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — A client-supplied or saved selection is checked against the routed instance’s advertised catalog capabilities before dispatch. The adapter then forwards only recognized program values for its bound instance.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — Client-side staged state could outlive a capability change under the same settings owner, but the observed dispatch check prevents that state alone from forwarding a program absent from the provider snapshot. Snapshot freshness remains unverified.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Verify that account or credential changes refresh the capabilities used at turn dispatch, and confirm that the Codex app-server rejects a program for which the caller is no longer entitled.

Approvability

Verdict: Not approved

Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — This PR introduces account-gated Daybreak controls across web, desktop, and mobile, including persistent selection, model-switch confirmations, and new Codex turn-routing behavior. It also establishes and dispatches a new Off/standard default, so the cross-platform capability and product-default change require human review.

When an account exposes only one Daybreak program, the trigger renders the same text-white icon for standard (Off) and the available daybreakBlue/daybreakRed program (On), so the selected Daybreak state is invisible. The !daybreakSelection.hasBothPrograms branch takes precedence over the program-specific color; choose the color from program and reserve white for standard.

Resolved in ec936ad077: Off now hides the Daybreak icon, while On shows a white icon when only one program is available. This makes those states visually distinct and follows the requested color rule. With both programs available, Red and Blue use their matching colors.

When a Codex model has only cyberAccessProgram and its selection is standard, the trigger renders no visible label—only the invisible compact-icon placeholder and chevron—so users cannot see that Daybreak is off without opening or hovering it. This continue skips the descriptor before triggerLabel is built, while the Daybreak icon is only rendered for non-standard selections. Preserve an Off/Daybreak label as the fallback when this is the sole trait.

Fixed in 3eaddc8206. When Daybreak is the only trait, the composer now shows Daybreak Off/On (or Red/Blue), and the accessible label does not duplicate that text. Added a focused test for the Off and On states.

Replace the hard-coded text-white Daybreak icon color

When the account has only one Daybreak program, the icon uses text-white. On a light theme the composer control background is light, so the icon cannot be seen and the "On" state has no visible marker. Use a color that follows the theme, such as text-foreground.

@PixPMusic, thanks. The current TraitsPicker.tsx uses text-foreground for the single-program Daybreak icon. It keeps the blue and red colors when both programs are available. This addresses the finding.

Sanitize saved cyberAccessProgram before the early returns

ChatView.tsx builds next from options saved for the target instance. The helper returns that selection unchanged when the current selection has no recognized program or when the instance changes. The stale program can therefore remain selected, while didReset stays false.

The picker does not expose an unsupported program, but CodexAdapter still forwards recognized values to turn/start. Remove any program that nextCapabilities does not advertise before these returns. Also make withCatalogCodexDaybreakDefault discard a program that the matching catalog model does not advertise.

When switching to a different provider instance that advertises the current non-standard Daybreak program, this function returns didReset: true even though next retains that program. Web and mobile therefore show a reset-confirmation dialog for a change that does not reset Daybreak. Gate the reset flag on supportsProgram(program) here, as in the same-instance path.

Tailwind-at-owner rule: these color aliases duplicate existing text-blue-400 and text-red-400 utilities. Use those classes in TraitsPicker.tsx instead of adding global theme tokens.

Posted via Macroscope — UI Consistency

Keeping the named Daybreak color tokens. The current vite.config.ts enables shadcn/no-raw-colors as an error for this component; text-blue-400 and text-red-400 both fail that rule because no existing semantic token matches. These two declarations preserve the program colors while the owning component still applies its styling with Tailwind classes. Targeted lint now passes.

Clear the sticky Daybreak option when the model switch resets it.

When Daybreak is the only option, carryCodexCyberAccessProgram returns a selection with no options. Both ChatView paths replace the current draft correctly, but setStickyModelSelection treats that selection as a model-only update and preserves the old sticky options. A later draft can therefore restore Daybreak after the user confirmed the reset.

Add an explicit replacement option to the sticky setter and pass it from both model-switch paths. Preserve model-only behavior for other callers.

✅ Confirmed as addressed by @PixPMusic

Confirmed and fixed in b26ec827a0. Both model-switch paths now replace sticky options explicitly, matching the draft update. Existing model-only callers still preserve their traits. Regression coverage switches from Daybreak-only settings (including standard/Off), applies sticky state to a later draft, and verifies the removed value stays cleared. All 140 composer store tests and the web typecheck pass.

@PixPMusic, thanks for the fix. Both model-switch paths now pass replaceOptions: true to the sticky setter. Your regression coverage also checks that a later draft does not restore the cleared Daybreak value. I have not independently run the tests.

Closing under the prior-approval rule. The dispatch helper and regression test explicitly send cyberAccessProgram: "standard" for eligible models with no saved Daybreak choice, where requests previously omitted it. That changes the request default and falls outside the focused-configuration exception. No explicit maintainer approval for that change is present. Please agree on the default and selection scope in an Ideas discussion, link the approval, and request reconsideration.
