Problem

Concurrent scheduled-task edits could overwrite unrelated fields, and saving a stale editor after the task was deleted could recreate it, because every edit was a full-row upsert built from the editor's snapshot. Julius reproduced both through the real service. Moving a thread-bound task to another project in the web editor also silently kept a thread from the old project (see the screenshots below).

Change

  • A new project-scoped ScheduledTaskService.update writes only the provided fields in one transaction. It never inserts, so an edit racing a delete returns not-found.
  • Upsert, enablement, dispatch, completion and recovery re-read the row inside their write transaction; a lock held past busy_timeout retries on a fresh snapshot.
  • Web and mobile editors send dirty-field patches when the server advertises scheduledTaskUpdate, and fall back to the legacy upsert on older servers (that fallback cannot be atomic). Creating a task still uses upsert.
  • Web workspace controls send a sparse workspaceStrategyPatch merged into the live strategy, so an edit to one control keeps a concurrent change to another and keeps the stored branch. Switching the workspace kind is a fresh choice and does not carry the hidden branch into the other kind, where it would mean something different.
  • Mobile's runtime mode is part of the update input. A thread binding is validated only when the write changes it.
  • Agent (MCP) edits keep main's #15219 authorization, then write through the atomic update pinned to the modes that were authorized.
  • UI: the web Project field shows "detaches the thread binding" when a move would drop the binding, judged against the live task. On mobile, saving an existing task whose live row is not loaded shows a "Task unavailable" alert instead of sending a stale full-row save.
  • A failed secretRef consumption now keeps the SecretRequestError as the error cause.

Scope and approval

This contribution covers atomic edits through the scheduled-task service, web and mobile patch builders, and MCP authorization path. The maintainer review requested coverage for mobile stale saves and sparse workspace edits; the existing response maps those fixes to their tests. That changes-requested review remains in place. The UI evidence request has web screenshots, but native mobile before/after evidence remains outstanding. This PR is not being represented as approved or merge-ready.

Verification

At d2b1469bb7, integrated with upstream 70d60e03a7 on macOS, 2026-10-17:

  • Focused selection: vp test run apps/mobile/src/features/settings/scheduledTaskDraft.test.ts apps/server/src/environment/ServerEnvironment.test.ts apps/server/src/mcp/OrchestratorMcpService.test.ts apps/server/src/mcp/OrchestratorMcpToolkit.integration.test.ts apps/server/src/mcp/toolkits/core.test.ts apps/server/src/scheduledTasks/ScheduledTaskService.test.ts apps/server/src/scheduledTasks/ScheduledTaskService.webhook.test.ts apps/web/src/components/settings/scheduledTasks.logic.test.ts packages/client-runtime/src/state/commandPermissions.test.ts packages/contracts/src/environment.test.ts: 210 passed (210).
  • Targeted lint and formatting pass; package typechecks pass for apps/mobile, apps/server, apps/web, packages/client-runtime, packages/contracts.
  • Focused validation used TMPDIR=/private/tmp to keep macOS temp-path spelling consistent.
  • Fresh read-only integration review by GPT-6.1 Sol (high), Codex through T3 Code: no remaining actionable findings for this exact tree. Claude quota prevented a new cross-model review.
  • Current-head CI passes, including build/typecheck, tests, lint and Release Smoke. GitHub still reports blocked; the existing maintainer changes-requested review remains, and the precise host gate has not been established.
  • Macroscope correctness was skipped under its per-PR cost limit: $49.69 spent plus an estimated $3.58 would total $53.27, exceeding $50. Approvability is neutral with correctness unavailable; there is no current-head Macroscope approval. UI Consistency and Effect Service Conventions skipped after failing to discover Check within one minute. No limit, billing, or review configuration was changed.
  • CodeRabbit is paused after e704c3b and marks this head unreviewed. Its archived-binding risk sentence was withdrawn after source inspection; current upsert and update retain the changed-binding guards and regression tests. Its generic docstring-percentage warning identifies no specific missing usage guidance and does not justify adding comments across existing helpers. Earlier Effect-style findings already have scoped written dispositions; they are not new findings from this head.
  • No new UI/native capture or live-provider verification was performed in this integration pass. Earlier media, measurements and fail-before results below retain their recorded revisions and limitations; they do not certify this head. Native mobile before/after evidence requested by the maintainer is still missing, along with the other proof gaps listed below.

Earlier verification

Head d276d1f27e (main 9c9ae43d80 merged cleanly; code changes in c7177bef30). Screenshots below were taken at c7177bef30; the later main merge changed nothing in the scheduled-task editor.

  • vp test run ScheduledTaskService, OrchestratorMcpService, OrchestratorMcpToolkit.integration, mcp/toolkits/core, ServerEnvironment, web scheduledTasks.logic, mobile scheduledTaskDraft, contracts environment, client-runtime commandPermissions: 9 files, 177 passed (run with T3_SERVICE_LAUNCHER_CONTEXT unset; an inherited production launcher context otherwise fails 3 unrelated ServerEnvironment version checks).
  • vp test run apps/server/src/scheduledTasks/ScheduledTaskService.webhook.test.ts: 32 passed, including the secretRef cause on upsert and update.
  • New permission behavior test for the protected scheduledTasks.update command.
  • Server and client-runtime typecheck, targeted lint: clean.

A scheduled task can still be dispatched after update commits enabled: false or a future next_run_at: runTask performs its enabled/due check before markRunning, so a poll that already passed that check marks the task running and dispatches it despite the user's pause or reschedule. Revalidate the current row atomically with markRunning (and only dispatch when that conditional update succeeds).

Fixed in 56f7accab8: the due/enabled revalidation and markRunning now share one sql.withTransaction, so a pause, postpone, or delete committed between the poll-read and the mark wins β€” the stale dispatch can no longer fire.

Approvability

Verdict: Needs Human Approval

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval β€” This PR introduces a new atomic scheduled-task update API and changes task persistence, scheduling, dispatch, recovery, project scoping, webhook handling, MCP authorization, and both web and mobile save flows. Its broad concurrency-sensitive production impact exceeds the scope of an automatically approvable change.

Needs human approval because:

  • Per-PR cost limit exceeded (workspace setting). Approvability relies on correctness review in order to determine eligibility

Selecting β€œUse a specific checkout” with a blank path produces an existing_worktree strategy with worktreePath: "", so task creation and edits fail contract validation instead of saving. Because submit validation does not reject this empty field, validate the trimmed checkout path before calling workspaceStrategyFromDraft (or otherwise prevent constructing this invalid strategy).

Fixed in 8f17636108. workspaceStrategyReady now gates submit before workspaceStrategyFromDraft runs β€” a blank or whitespace-only checkout path fails fast with an "incomplete" toast instead of emitting a worktreePath: "" strategy the contract would reject. Covered by a new test asserting the guard rejects blank paths and accepts trimmed ones.

Please hold this PR for the newly reproduced integration finding shared with #11592/#11635. Individually green checks missed conflicting Settings behavior when a stale scheduled-task editor saves a project move: one helper emits threadId: null and the other omits the binding field, preserving a concurrent binding.

The existing #11592 owner is reconciling explicit project-move intent, authorization, and stale-editor concurrency with focused regression tests; #11635 will consume the same semantics afterward. The fixes will update these existing PRs. The frozen main-integration rehearsal otherwise passed 1,530 tests with zero failures; this behavior disagreement still needs an explicit resolution before we request these two merges.

Synced from GitHub

Reconciled in 6db4c8b45b β€” the canonical semantics ships in this PR: scheduledTasks.logic.ts::buildScheduledTaskUpdateInput emits threadId: null only when the patch itself re-homes the task away from the live binding's project (nextProjectId !== undefined && nextProjectId !== task.projectId && task.threadId !== null).

Rules:

  • Real project move on a bound task β†’ nextProjectId + threadId: null (the server's merged-pair check rejects an invalid pair otherwise).
  • Stale move landing where the task already lives β†’ no threadId in the patch β†’ a binding committed mid-session by another client is preserved (valid in the destination).
  • The dialog has no thread picker, so threadId is never emitted from draft state β€” a stale editor can neither re-attach nor erase a concurrent binding.

Matrix coverage (deterministic tests): bound/unbound moves, concurrent move+rebind preservation, third-project detach, untouched-binding saves, reverse move-back, retry-after-committed-move β€” scheduledTasks.logic.test.ts. #11635 consumes the same semantics on rebase.

Synced from GitHub

@juliusmarminge The integration hold is cleared: #11592 and #11635 now agree on live-aware thread detachment when moving a scheduled task. The stale-editor/concurrent-binding regression matrix passes in the composed candidate. Please review and merge the coordinated pair; land #11592 first, then preserve the documented resolution when rebasing #11635.

Fresh check, 19 September 09:11 Sydney: this PR is mergeable and every current check is green or skipped at e1e86cb79aed228049d7e435616730eec551acb5. The frozen post-fix current-main rehearsal passed 1,490 tests with zero failures and zero merge conflicts, plus Cursor recovery 7/7. That rehearsal is scoped to its recorded inputs; later rebases have their own current-head CI. Latest-head independent agent review remains pending capacity; no new clean review is claimed.

JJulius Marmingerequested changes Β· 1 inline threadSep 18, 2026

The atomic partial updates and dispatch checks solve real races, but the stale-save fix needs to cover the remaining supported paths before merging. Reviewed e1e86cb79aed228049d7e435616730eec551acb5.

  1. P2: Mobile still overwrites concurrent edits. The mobile editor still constructs a full-row ScheduledTaskUpsertInput and calls upsertScheduledTask. I reproduced the sequence through the actual ScheduledTaskService: open the mobile draft, change the prompt and pause the task through update, then save a title-only mobile edit through upsert. The save restores the old prompt and re-enables the task. requireExisting protects against deletion but does not preserve concurrent field edits. Use dirty patches for mobile edits too, including its editable runtime mode, and add a regression covering a stale mobile rename after another client changes the prompt and enabled flag.

  2. P2: Web workspace edits overwrite untouched controls. The new workspace patch builder overwrites live settings with the entire reconstructed draft. A base-ref-only edit can undo a newer startFromOrigin choice. See the inline finding for the reproduction and proposed fix.

These are incomplete fixes to existing stale-save behavior, rather than newly introduced regressions.

Nonblocking size concerns: the diff is +2,324/-193, with 1,519 added lines in tests. Much of the deterministic race coverage is useful. Parameterizing repeated dispatch and project-move cases, sharing the duplicated scheduleFromDraft conversion, and removing redundant transaction conflict machinery would make this easier to maintain. In particular, the schedule/enabled CAS and re-read branches assume a concurrent commit becomes visible inside the existing SQLite snapshot. I reproduced that window with a separate physical connection: SQLite raises SQLITE_BUSY_SNAPSHOT 517, which the transaction retry already handles. The same-connection transaction is serialized.

Validation: 97 focused tests passed; server, web, contracts, and client-runtime typechecks passed. Targeted lint found one new unused ScheduledTaskError import plus existing warnings. No browser or device verification was performed.

P2: Preserve workspace controls the user did not change.

workspaceStrategyFromDraft(draft) contains both baseRef and startFromOrigin, so spreading it over the live strategy replaces both whenever either control is dirty.

Reproduction: open a worktree task with baseRef: "main", startFromOrigin: true; another client commits startFromOrigin: false; change only the base ref to develop in the original editor and save. Calling this builder with the updated live task emits { type: "worktree", baseRef: "develop", startFromOrigin: true }, silently undoing the concurrent choice. The existing test only preserves branch, a field absent from the reconstructed draft.

Compare each workspace control with its opening baseline and overlay only the dirty controls onto the live strategy. Add a regression for a base-ref edit after a concurrent origin-toggle change.

Synced from GitHub

Both P2 stale-save findings addressed in bd091a7a56 (15 files, same atomic-update commit):

  1. Mobile dirty patches β€” SettingsScheduledTasksRouteScreen edit path now builds a ScheduledTaskUpdateInput via buildScheduledTaskUpdateInput(draft, liveTask) (in scheduledTaskDraft.ts) instead of a full-row upsert. The opening snapshot stays the baseline; projectId scopes to the live row; a delete racing the save is a typed not-found. runtimeMode added to ScheduledTaskUpdateInput + the server's partial-write set so mobile's editable runtime mode rides the same path. Creates still upsert.
  2. Web workspace per-control overlay β€” scheduledTasks.logic.ts now compares each workspace control against its opening baseline and overlays only dirty controls onto the live strategy: a base-ref-only edit keeps a concurrent startFromOrigin change (and a concurrent kind switch drops the stale control edit rather than resurrecting the old kind).

Regressions: mobile stale rename vs concurrent prompt+enabled (patch carries title only), runtimeMode patch, live-aware detach on re-home, base-ref edit after concurrent origin-toggle, kind-switch omit, server runtimeMode write β€” 105/105 focused tests pass; web/mobile/server/contracts typechecks clean.

Make the enable transition atomic with the schedule update or add a compare-and-swap guard (including the schedule/version) before writing next_run_at.

Not changing this here. taskError already exists on main (ScheduledTaskService.ts, before this PR), and the new call sites follow the file's existing convention. Replacing it across the whole service would be an unrelated refactor. The thread is outdated against the current head.

Not changed here: taskError and its ~60 call sites exist on main; this PR only adds calls in the same style. Replacing it is a service-wide mechanical change that belongs in its own PR rather than inside the atomic-edit fix.

Scheduled-task editors now build sparse updates and use a dedicated update RPC when the server advertises support. Server mutations use project-scoped checks. Scheduler operations recheck task state and retry selected SQLite contention errors.

Changes: Scheduled-task mutations

Layer / File(s)Summary
Update contract and capability wiring
packages/contracts/src/scheduledTask.ts, packages/contracts/src/rpc.ts, packages/contracts/src/environment.ts, packages/contracts/src/environment.test.ts, packages/client-runtime/src/state/server.ts, apps/server/src/environment/*, apps/server/src/auth/RpcAuthorization.ts
Adds the update input and RPC, the scheduledTaskUpdate capability, a client command, and project scope fields for delete and run-now inputs.
Editor patch generation and save flow
apps/mobile/src/features/settings/SettingsScheduledTasksRouteScreen.tsx, apps/mobile/src/features/settings/scheduledTaskDraft.ts, apps/mobile/src/features/settings/scheduledTaskDraft.test.ts, apps/web/src/components/settings/ScheduledTasksSettings.tsx, apps/web/src/components/settings/scheduledTasks.logic.ts, apps/web/src/components/settings/scheduledTasks.logic.test.ts
Mobile and web editors compare draft, baseline, and live task values to build sparse patches. They use the update command when supported, fall back to legacy upsert otherwise, and keep creation on upsert.
Atomic project-scoped mutations
apps/server/src/scheduledTasks/ScheduledTaskService.ts, apps/server/src/scheduledTasks/ScheduledTaskService.test.ts
The service applies partial updates transactionally, validates thread bindings, scopes operations by project, and updates scheduling state only when relevant fields change. Tests cover patch merging, scope checks, due-time behavior, and concurrent updates.
Scheduler execution and contention handling
apps/server/src/scheduledTasks/ScheduledTaskService.ts, apps/server/src/scheduledTasks/ScheduledTaskService.test.ts
Dispatch, completion, recovery, and missed-run rescheduling recheck stored state. Selected SQLite contention failures trigger retries.
Scoped RPC and MCP operations
apps/server/src/ws.ts, apps/server/src/mcp/OrchestratorMcpService.ts, apps/server/src/mcp/OrchestratorMcpToolkit.integration.test.ts, apps/server/src/mcp/toolkits/thread/handlers.ts
WebSocket and MCP handlers map missing project-scoped mutation results to not-found errors. Manual thread-tool dispatch passes the caller's project ID.

Merge Risk: πŸ”΅ Low Β· up to e704c

Scheduled-task edits are now partial and project-scoped. In one narrow case, saving a task that is still bound to an archived thread fails when the save repeats the existing binding. This is a bounded follow-up and does not block merging.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: πŸ”΅ Low Β· up to e704c

The change strengthens ownership checks and prevents atomic edits from restoring deleted tasks. No introduced security weakness was identified in the reviewed paths. Older-server fallback and unverified multi-process behavior limit the concurrency guarantees.

Retained concerns No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred β€” The sensitive outcome is persisted task configuration feeding agent-thread execution in an execution environment. RPC orchestration-operate authority remains broader than a single project: project IDs are row-consistency scopes, not newly introduced per-project token grants. Comparable project, workspace, model, and runtime inputs were already exposed by upsert.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed β€” The new RPC is behind authenticated WebSocket upgrade and connection-scope authorization, requiring the same orchestration-operate permission as existing task mutations. MCP update/delete pass their authorized project to persistence, and scoped manual dispatch rejects a task moved after the caller's check.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed β€” Startup recovery still computes rescheduling from an initial row snapshot and marks running rows failed; it is not the transactional live re-read used by normal completion and failure cleanup. That ownership model predates this PR, which adds bounded contention retries. It should not be interpreted as cross-process recovery isolation or exactly-once execution.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed β€” If multiple scheduler processes may share the database, use durable per-run ownership or a lease and ownership-checked recovery before relying on duplicate-execution containment. This is a conditional hardening proposal for a pre-existing limitation, not an introduced finding.

132-180: πŸ“ Maintainability & Code Quality | πŸ”΅ Trivial | πŸ—οΈ Heavy lift

Move the shared patch rules into one helper.

Web and mobile each have their own copy of the patch rules that must match the server's merge behavior:

  • In this file, Lines 132-180 build the same-kind workspaceStrategyPatch.
  • They drop a stale control edit when the live strategy kind changed.
  • They emit threadId: null only when nextProjectId moves the task away from task.projectId and the task is bound.

The same logic is also in apps/mobile/src/features/settings/scheduledTaskDraft.ts Lines 271-311. That file also copies sameSchedule from Lines 66-75 here.

The PR history shows these helpers already drifted once on threadId handling during project moves. A future change to one client can break the server merge contract for the other client without any visible error.

packages/contracts/src/scheduledTask.ts already holds scheduledTaskLegacyUpsert. Add pure helpers in that module, for example scheduledTaskWorkspacePatch(opening, draft, live) and scheduledTaskMoveDetachesBinding(nextProjectId, live). Then call them from both builders. Each client then keeps only its own draft-to-strategy conversion.

Synced from GitHub

@juliusmarminge, here is where each point from your 18 September review stands. Current head: ee31791478, rebased onto main fed41fa88b.

  1. P2, mobile stale full-row upsert. Fixed. When editing an existing task, the mobile editor now sends a dirty-field ScheduledTaskUpdateInput from buildScheduledTaskUpdateInput(draft, liveTask) and calls updateScheduledTask. Only creating a task still uses upsert. runtimeMode is part of the update input. Regressions in apps/mobile/src/features/settings/scheduledTaskDraft.test.ts:
    • "sends only the fields a stale editor changed, preserving concurrent edits": a stale rename after another client changes the prompt and pauses the task sends { title } only.
    • "patches the editable runtime mode".
  2. P2, web workspace controls. Fixed, and the inline thread is resolved. Edits that keep the same strategy kind send a sparse workspaceStrategyPatch with only the changed controls. The server merges it into the live strategy inside the update transaction. Your repro is covered: a base-ref-only edit after a concurrent startFromOrigin change keeps that change.
  3. CAS and re-read branches. Removed in ee31791478, as you suggested. update and setEnabled no longer guard on enabled/schedule_json, and they no longer re-read to tell a delete apart from a contested edit. Same-connection transactions are serialized, and a cross-connection commit raises SQLITE_BUSY_SNAPSHOT, which retryContended retries on a fresh snapshot. The file-database tests with a second physical connection still pass without that code: disjoint fields, schedule vs. committed disable, and delete inside the read window.
  4. Size.
    • The pause, postpone and delete dispatch-gap cases are now one it.effect.each.
    • ScheduledTasksSettings.tsx imports the single scheduleFromDraft from scheduledTasks.logic.ts. The duplicate is gone, and invalid intervals are still rejected at submit.
    • I left the project-move delete and runNow cases separate. They run on different layers (plain vs. gated dispatch), so parameterizing them would mostly add setup plumbing.
    • Net change in this pass: -69 lines.
  5. Unused ScheduledTaskError import. It is no longer present. Targeted lint on the changed scheduled-task, MCP and settings paths reports no new warnings.

I also fixed CodeRabbit's open finding: upsert now validates a thread binding only when the write changes it.

Verification on ee31791478:

  • ScheduledTaskService.test.ts + OrchestratorMcpToolkit.integration.test.ts: 31 passed.
  • Web scheduledTasks.logic.test.ts: 28 passed.
  • Mobile scheduledTaskDraft.test.ts: 40 passed.
  • Server and web typechecks clean.

An independent GPT-6.1-Sol review (high reasoning) of this change and the re-stacked #11635 approved it with no actionable findings.

Could you take another look?

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟑 Minor | ⚑ Quick win

Validate the binding in update only when the merged (projectId, threadId) pair changes.

update calls requireThreadInProject whenever the patch carries threadId or nextProjectId. It does this even when the merged pair equals the stored pair. upsert now validates only a binding that the write changes (Lines 998-1008). The upsert comment says it works "Like update", but the two rules differ.

Here is the failing case. A task is bound to a thread, and that thread is later archived. A client then sends a patch that repeats the stored threadId, or that sets nextProjectId to the current project. The patch fails with "The task's thread binding is not a live thread…". An unrelated title or prompt edit in the same patch is also lost. A client can send this patch when its draft baseline differs from the live row, for example after a concurrent move back.

Compare the merged pair with existing before you validate.

@juliusmarminge Rebased onto current main (9bd1d8009a) as 697ecb3790. The six earlier commits are squashed into one, so the conflicts with webhook-triggered scheduled tasks are resolved once.

Both points from your 18 September review still hold after the rebase:

  1. Mobile stale full-row upsert. Fixed. Edits send a dirty-field ScheduledTaskUpdateInput. The regression "sends only the fields a stale editor changed, preserving concurrent edits" still passes.
  2. Web workspace controls. Fixed. Edits send a sparse workspaceStrategyPatch, and your base-ref repro is still covered.

The rebase also needed the atomic update to support webhook triggers:

  • update follows the same webhook rules as upsert. Switching to a webhook creates its URL token. A signature without a new secret keeps the stored secret. A secretRef is spent once, before the write transaction. Leaving the webhook trigger clears the token and secret.
  • The web and mobile patch builders compare webhook triggers correctly. A save that does not touch the trigger leaves it out of the patch, so it cannot overwrite a concurrent signature change. Typing a new secret counts as a change.
  • A scoped delete also deletes the task's webhook delivery log, in the same transaction. A delivery that was waiting while its task was paused, replaced or switched to another trigger is still skipped, now inside the mark-running transaction.

New regressions: server "update gives a webhook trigger its URL token and signing secret", plus web and mobile "unchanged webhook trigger" patch tests.

Locally: server src/scheduledTasks + src/mcp (290 tests), web logic (30), mobile draft (44) and contracts all pass. Server, web, mobile, contracts and client-runtime typecheck clean, apart from the known main breakage in externalLauncher.test.ts (fixed by #16436).

@coderabbitai Re the merge-risk sentence "saving a task that is still bound to an archived thread fails when the save repeats the existing binding": that refers to e704c3b213, an earlier head of this branch. On the current head 25385e33e6, upsert and update only check a thread binding when the save changes it (bindingChanged in ScheduledTaskService.ts), so resending the stored binding of a since-archived thread saves normally. Two regression tests cover this: "update keeps an unchanged binding to a since-archived thread editable" and "legacy upsert keeps an unchanged binding to a since-archived thread editable". The MCP update path only sends a binding when bindToCurrentThread is set, and that thread is the caller's own running thread.

@saphid Thanks for the clarification. I checked 25385e33e6 and withdraw that merge-risk sentence. It does not apply to the current head.

  • Both upsert and update validate a non-null thread binding only when the thread/project pair changes.
  • Both regression tests cover saving an unchanged binding after the thread is archived. They also check that a changed binding still fails validation.
  • The MCP update path omits threadId when bindToCurrentThread is absent. Explicit true binds to the caller’s thread; explicit false clears the binding.

I inspected the code and tests. I did not run the tests.

5Learning: In apps/server/src/scheduledTasks/ScheduledTaskService.ts, upsert and update validate a non-null thread binding only when bindingChanged indicates that the stored thread/project pair changes. Repeating an unchanged binding to a since-archived thread must not block unrelated edits. apps/server/src/scheduledTasks/ScheduledTaskService.test.ts covers this with "update keeps an unchanged binding to a since-archived thread editable" and "legacy upsert keeps an unchanged binding to a since-archived thread editable". @juliusmarminge I re-checked each point of your 18 September review against the current head 25385e33e6, which merges cleanly with main 614b432a79. Nothing new needed fixing. Here is where each point is handled:

  1. P2, mobile overwrites concurrent edits. Fixed in 59ed76f300. An edit now sends a dirty-field ScheduledTaskUpdateInput from buildScheduledTaskUpdateInput through updateScheduledTask. That input includes runtimeMode. Only create still uses upsert. Regressions in apps/mobile/src/features/settings/scheduledTaskDraft.test.ts:

On the server, the server test "update keeps disjoint concurrent edits and untouched fields" shows that a patch changes only the columns it names.

  2. P2, web workspace edits overwrite untouched controls. Fixed in 59ed76f300. A same-kind edit sends a sparse workspaceStrategyPatch with only the changed controls. The server merges that patch into the live strategy inside the update transaction (ScheduledTaskService.ts#L1486). Your repro, a base-ref edit after a concurrent startFromOrigin: false, is covered by these tests:

    The inline thread is resolved.

Nonblocking notes:

  • CAS and re-read branches. Removed. update and setEnabled now do a scoped read and a plain UPDATE … WHERE task_id AND project_id inside one retryContended(sql.withTransaction(…)). A SQLITE_BUSY_SNAPSHOT is retried there.
  • Repeated dispatch cases. Parameterized with it.effect.each (test#L1327).
  • Unused ScheduledTaskError import. Gone. Targeted lint on the 25 changed files reports no new warnings. The four warnings left in ws.ts and rpc.ts are already on main.
  • scheduleFromDraft. This PR adds no copy. Web and mobile each keep the one they already had on main, because their draft types differ.

Validation on 25385e33e6:

  • Focused tests pass: server 134 (scheduledTasks + MCP), web 30, mobile 44.
  • Typecheck passes for server, web, mobile, contracts and client-runtime.

Taking over this one as maintainer for batch scheduler-tasks-05. I will rebuild the atomic edit path against current main, preserve the stale-editor and authorization semantics, and split the server API, client editors, and scheduler transaction changes into focused review layers. The original author will be credited; no merge is planned.

Thanks @saphid β€” the atomic patch design correctly identified why concurrent edits lose fields and stale saves recreate deleted tasks. I rebuilt this against the current scheduler and client architecture and published it as three focused layers:

  • #21791: atomic scoped service updates, protected RPC/capability, and live MCP authorization.
  • #21792: dirty-field web/mobile edits, sparse workspace changes, legacy fallback, and live-aware binding detachment.
  • #21793: transactional reservation, completion, missed-run rescheduling, and recovery.

I compared the original pinned diff against the complete replacement. Mobile runtime-mode edits, the previously requested sparse base-ref/origin behavior, changed-binding validation, webhook credential preservation and secret-error causes, due times and run history are all retained. Current SQLite write transactions replace the extra retry/CAS machinery. Incidental Project hint/mobile alert additions and redundant test matrices were omitted; missing tasks disable Save instead. The existing legacy-interval notice is preserved and now verified for title-only saves.

The original added 66 cases and 2,071 test lines; the replacement adds 19 focused cases in five existing files (652 added/4 removed lines), plus adaptations to existing MCP fixtures. Final focused suites pass 123 cases. Two independent full-diff review rounds (Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Sol) found and fixed resulting-thread mode, live manual-trigger, and sub-minute fallback issues; the second round found no code blockers. Current-head web proof covers two-client concurrent saves, deleting an open editor, and legacy interval normalization, with images/recording in the client PR. Native platforms and actual old-server fallback runtime remain unverified.

Closing in favor of the linked stack, with credit retained in every layer. Nothing has been merged. Fresh CI and human review remain required.

Maintainer takeover: GPT-6.1 Sol (high), Codex harness through T3 Code; tests GPT-6 Astra, independent reviews Claude Opus 5.5/GPT-6 Sol.
