Reproduced the missing control in the web dev app on main at a12d6ed942. With project grouping enabled, registered /home/ubuntu/t3code and its nested apps/server folder appear in the same project group. Project settings lists the checkouts but has no grouping-rule selector; General settings only offers the global toggle. This attempt used one Linux environment in Chromium at 1280×800; the two-environment variant is not yet verified.
[Bug]: Per-project grouping rule can't be set from the new sidebar#16445

Area

Steps to reproduce
- Register a repo root and a nested folder of the same repo as projects, e.g.
~/work/deltaand~/work/delta/commerce-pricing, on two environments (MacBook + remote Linux box). - Keep the default sidebar (legacy sidebar off) and leave Settings → Project grouping on, so the composer can pick the environment.
- Try to set the nested project's grouping rule to "Group by repository path" or "Keep separate".
Expected behavior
The new sidebar or the project settings page lets me set the per-checkout grouping rule, as the legacy sidebar does with "Group into..." → member → "Grouping rule".
Actual behavior
The new sidebar and ProjectSettingsPanel have no grouping-rule control. sidebarProjectGroupingOverrides can only be written from LegacySidebar.tsx. The global Project grouping toggle only switches between "separate" and the last enabled mode (default "repository"), so it can't choose "repository_path" either. With grouping on and no override, the root and the nested folder merge into one sidebar row. Turning grouping off separates them but removes the environment picker from the composer.
#10930 was closed pointing at this per-checkout override, which new-sidebar users can't reach.
Impact
Minor bug or occasional failure
Version or commit
T3 Code (Nightly) 0.0.46-nightly.20261005.2702; code checked on main at 9bd1d8009a
Environment
macOS (Apple Silicon) desktop app, plus a remote Ubuntu environment
Workaround
Enable the legacy sidebar, right-click the project group → Group into... → pick each nested checkout → Grouping rule → Group by repository path, then switch back. The override persists. Alternatively, edit sidebarProjectGroupingMode in client-settings.json while the app is closed.
