adds per-file viewed marks to the pull request code tab, with automatic folding and a "changed" state after a file is pushed. github uses its native marks; forgejo, gitlab, bitbucket, and azure devops keep marks per viewer on the connected t3 environment. azure devops gains the diff support needed for this review flow.

resolved conflicts with main, preserved viewed-only diff caching, and isolated stored marks by the requested repository even when another checkout supplies its credentials. truncated forgejo diffs cannot establish a false revision baseline.

verified against real forgejo 16.0.5 through tea 0.16.0 and the t3 web client: mark/unmark, folding, reload persistence, alpha-only changed detection after a real push, and modified/added/deleted/renamed/unicode filenames. a second real repository with the same pr number and filename verified storage isolation and adoption by a newly added checkout. sqlite readback confirmed separate keys and real blob revisions.

blacksmith: the 1,266-test scoped suite passed; all 157 service tests passed again after the isolation fix. the new isolation regression fails on the previous code. server/web typechecks and scoped lint passed. live gitlab, bitbucket, and azure sessions were not rerun; their existing adapter tests passed.

forgejo unmark expands the unicode diff and marking folds it while alpha remains changed

forgejo marks persisted after reload with only alpha changed

Switching environments or pull requests while a write is pending can apply the previous PR's queued presses to the new environment and revert the new PR's optimistic state. referenceKey omits environmentId, so the reset does not clear environment-specific queued data, and the in-flight completion still mutates the shared overlay and inFlight.current after the reference changes. Include environmentId in the reset scope and ignore or cancel completions belonging to the previous environment/reference.

Viewed checkbox skips viewer rerender

Medium Severity

Ticking Viewed on a file that is already folded (the default) does not change collapse, so item.version stays the same. The diff viewer only redraws a file when version changes, so the header checkbox can stay out of date even though the toolbar count moved. The same stall happens when unticking a file that is already expanded.

Medium Severity

Local viewed overlay, queue, and in-flight presses reset on projectId, repository, and number only. The RPC query already keys by environmentId, so switching connected environments while those fields stay the same keeps ticks from the previous server and can apply them to a different project that reused the same ids.

Triggered by learned rule: Multi-environment identity scoping: keys and lookups must carry environmentId

Approvability

Verdict: Not approved

Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — This PR adds a cross-provider viewed-file workflow with persistent storage, new authenticated RPCs, client-side state management, and substantial Azure diff behavior. It also changes product defaults and adds static-analysis suppression directives, so the breadth and runtime impact require human review.

Failed batch undoes later in-flight ticks

Medium Severity

A failed setFilesViewed request drops matching inFlight entries before revert, and revertFileViewedOverlay only treats queued paths as superseded. A later flush for the same path is already in inFlight (the serial command has not run yet), so an earlier failure can clear the optimistic overlay and show an error toast while a newer press is still pending. If that later press sent the same viewed value, the checkbox jumps back to the host until the queued write finishes.

Reviewed the web UI changes (PullRequestCodeTab.tsx, pullRequestDiff.logic.ts, pullRequestFilesViewed.logic.ts, usePullRequestFilesViewed.ts) for shared-primitive use, Tailwind/CSS ownership and virtualizer behavior.

Both findings from the previous run are resolved: the Checkbox no longer carries a partial size-* override, and truncated is now threaded through the hook and surfaced in the meta line with the same Tooltip + TriangleAlertIcon treatment the withheld-diff caveat uses. Two remaining items below — one virtualizer regression risk, one accessible-name issue on the new control.

One finding on the new viewed-files hook: the command-failure path surfaces an error toast for interrupt-only failures, which diverges from the repo's established useAtomCommand failure convention. Everything else in the web scope (Checkbox/Tooltip primitive use, the amber caveat icon matching the adjacent meta-line pattern, header portal render-prop stability via refs, explicit environmentId threading) looks consistent.

An interrupt-only failure lands here as _tag === "Failure" too — the RPC client's scope closes on every reconnect/environment teardown and resumes pending requests with Exit.interrupt — so a flush in flight during a reconnect reverts the reader's ticks and raises a bare "Could not update viewed files" toast for something the server never rejected. The convention elsewhere (ServerUpdateAction.tsx:117-127, useThreadActionMenu.ts:180-188) is: create the command with { reportFailure: false } (otherwise useAtomCommand also console-warns alongside the toast), skip isAtomCommandInterrupted(result), and describe the rest with squashAtomCommandFailure(result).

Smallest fix — keep the revert, drop the toast for interrupts:

diff
1 setOverlay((current) => revertFileViewedOverlay(current, batch, owned));
2- if (owned.size > 0) {
3+ if (owned.size > 0 && !isAtomCommandInterrupted(result)) {
4 toastManager.add({ type: "error", title: "Could not update viewed files" });
5 }

with import { isAtomCommandInterrupted } from "@t3tools/client-runtime/state/runtime"; and useAtomCommand(pullRequestEnvironment.setFilesViewed, { reportFailure: false }).

Posted via Macroscope — UI Consistency

Real, and fixed in 3c279bf30.

isAtomCommandInterrupted(result) now gates the toast, and the command is created with { reportFailure: false } to match every sibling in this directory (PullRequestReactions.tsx:69, PullRequestReviewBar.tsx:71, and the three in PullRequestSummaryTab.tsx), which was an inconsistency worth closing on its own.

Two notes on the suggestion as written:

  • The console-warn was not actually happening on this path. reportAtomCommandResult returns early when Cause.hasInterruptsOnly(result.cause), so an interrupt never warned regardless of reportFailure. reportFailure: false is here for consistency with the neighbours and to keep the warn from doubling up with the toast on a genuine rejection, not to silence interrupts.
  • I left the toast title-only rather than adding squashAtomCommandFailure(result) as a description. Every error toast in this directory is title-only; failureToast with a description is the thread-menu and server-update convention, not this one.

The revert stays on interrupt, as you suggested: the write's fate is genuinely unknown there, so falling back to the last state the host confirmed is the honest thing to show, and the reconnect refreshes it anyway.

Item content is read only as content, and binary detection looks for a NUL in that string. Azure’s JSON items envelope marks binaries in contentMetadata and often base64-encodes the body, so images and other binaries render as a text hunk instead of “Binary files differ”.

Fixed in b060805da7. The per-file fallback now recovers only the failures that are one files own: a path azwill not carry, a blob it will not hand over, an answer that came back unreadable. A missingaz`, a signed-out CLI and a rate limit reach the outer handler as before, so the host is paused rather than the change rendering as files with no hunks. Two tests cover it, one either way.

One finding: the new "viewed" segment in the Code tab toolbar cannot shrink, which makes the already-tight meta strip overflow sooner in narrow panels. Everything else in scope looks consistent — the checkbox uses the shared Checkbox primitive with the same label-wrapping pattern as the other call sites, the render props stay identity-stable through refs with the marks folded into item.version, and usePullRequestFilesViewed resolves its environment from the explicit environmentId prop.

One convention finding: a known-tag recovery is expressed with Effect.catchIf instead of Effect.catchTags. Everything else in the new Effect service code (the PullRequestFilesViewed repository module's Context.Service/make/layer shape, namespace imports, dependency acquisition via yield*, and the new structured error mappings) matches the conventions.

heldFileRevisions is a plain map rather than an epoch-keyed cache, so it was the one piece of state a head-moving mutation left behind: the filesViewed read key does include refEpoch and so re-ran, but fileRevisionsOf answered it from the stale held entry for the rest of its 60s TTL.

Note: GPT-6 via Codex, on behalf of shivam (@shivamhwp).

patchHeader inserts Azure filenames into diff headers without escaping them. The client parser reads tab\tfile.txt as tab and line\nfile.txt as line, so viewed-file controls target the wrong path.

Please escape these paths and add parser round-trip coverage. Live Azure acceptance of these filenames remains unverified, so this is an edge-case concern.

Escaped, and fixed on the reading side too.

patchHeader now writes each side the way git does, with the side letter inside the quoting (diff --git "a/tab\tfile.txt" "b/tab\tfile.txt"), including the rename from/rename to names and the Binary files line.

Escaping alone would not have fixed what you described, though: parsePatchFiles takes the quotes off the diff --git names and leaves the escapes in (and leaves the quotes on for a rename), so the client would still have keyed the file under tab\tfile.txt as written rather than the name the host has. The writer and the reader now share one implementation in packages/shared/src/gitPatchPath.ts, and resolveFileDiffPath unquotes before it strips the a//b/ prefix.

Round trips are covered in packages/shared/src/gitPatchPath.test.ts (a table of names written and read back, tab, newline, CR, quote, backslash, BEL, US, DEL and non-ASCII), in apps/web/src/lib/diffRendering.test.ts through the real parser, and in apps/server/src/pullRequest/azureDevOpsDiff.test.ts for the exact headers Azure produces. The Bitbucket revision parser dropped its private copy of the unescaper for the shared one.

Worth noting the reading half is not Azure-only: since nothing here sets core.quotePath=false, local git already writes non-ASCII names as octal, so turn diffs and review comments were keying and displaying those wrong too. Agreed that live Azure acceptance of such filenames is unverified; this keeps the patch well formed either way.

On the scope point: I cannot use gh stack from a fork, so splitting this into stacked PRs is not an option on my side. Keeping it as one PR.

@juliusmarminge ready for another review at f28664a4cb616c32a861839063f18f506e600629. Current main is integrated, migration is 053, and credential-aware cache keys use the current reference encoding. The unrelated mobile highlighter test rewrite is no longer in the PR diff.

The takeover also fixed collapsed-default viewed gestures, quoted GitHub/GitLab filenames, account guards and environment routing, and viewed-only invalidation (including skipping linked-thread sync). All latest CI checks pass. Blacksmith passed 374 focused regression tests and 203 server/sync tests, relevant typechecks and scoped lint. Two independent final reviewers approved this exact head. Both outstanding inline threads are resolved.

The PR body includes live GitHub mark/unmark evidence, independent provider readback, and the no-diff-refetch check. Live GitLab/Bitbucket/Azure sessions were not rerun; their automated coverage and the author's demos remain linked.

Your earlier request to split Azure diff support and SSH canonicalization remains a scope decision. I preserved the existing PR and history rather than splitting or replacing it during this takeover. Please re-review the fixes and that remaining scope question; your changes-requested review is still active.
