Problem

A host linked with t3 connect link (or t3 up choosing T3 Connect, which uses the same function) never turned on "Publish agent activity". The relay publisher treats the missing setting as off, so phones paired over T3 Connect never received push notifications or Live Activity updates, while desktop onboarding turns the same setting on by default. Reproduced on main b90e554e0a: after t3 connect link --headless on a fresh base dir, t3 connect status --json reports publishAgentActivity: false and cloud-publish-agent-activity is never written.

Change

linkEnvironmentForConnect now writes cloud-publish-agent-activity = "true" for managed links when the setting does not exist yet, using the secret store's atomic create and ignoring only its already-exists error. A value the user set explicitly (t3 connect publish --disable stores "false") is kept. --publish-only links still force "true" as before.

Scope and approval

Fixes pingdotgg/t3code#32232

Triaged via the automated issue flow.

Verification

  • vp test run apps/server/src/cli/connect.test.ts apps/server/src/cli/up.connect.test.ts: 9 tests pass.

    • t3 connect link > turns on agent activity publishing for a managed link fails on main (a managed link left agent activity publishing off: expected null to equal 'true') and passes with the fix. It drives the real connect link --headless command against a temp base dir with a stored CLI token and a fake cloudflared.
    • t3 connect link > keeps a user's opt-out from agent activity publishing passes before and after; it guards the explicit "false".
  • vp run check:changed: format, lint, knip, typecheck (3 packages) and tests pass.

  • Runtime transcript: the real CLI (node apps/server/src/bin.ts) on a fresh base dir with a synthetic CLI token and a fake cloudflared, on each side:

  • Not checked: delivery of a push to a real phone over a provisioned T3 Connect link (no T3 Connect account in the test environment); the transcript stops at the setting and the status the publisher reads. Not run on native Windows (the test's fake cloudflared is a POSIX script).

Approvability

Verdict: Needs Human Approval

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — Managed CLI Connect links now enable agent-activity publishing when no preference exists, while preserving explicit opt-outs. A human needs to confirm this new publishing default and its effect on users' sharing expectations.

Walkthrough

Managed CLI links now enable agent-activity publishing by default when no preference exists. The link flow preserves a stored false preference. New integration tests cover both cases.

Changes: Managed link publishing

Managed links now create the publishing setting with value "true" if it is absent. Publish-only links continue to overwrite the setting. Tests check the managed-link default and preservation of a stored "false" value.

Managed-link behavior can be tested on the reported platform, but the new tests need a cross-platform relay fixture before they can run on native Windows. This is a bounded test-workflow risk.

Explanation

[#32232] Managed links now default publishing to true and preserve a stored opt-out. CLI tests cover both cases. The issue also requests a warning for each environment with publishing disabled. The issue reports that the mobile Notifications screen lacks this warning, and this server-only PR does not add it.

Resolution

Add the per-environment warning to the mobile Notifications screen when agent activity publishing is disabled. Add automated tests for the warning.

Use a cross-platform relay client fixture.

On native Windows, the version probe cannot execute the POSIX script. Both tests can reach the install prompt instead of testing the link behavior. Use a test process spawner that returns the version output, or another cross-platform fixture.

[GPT-6.1 Sol][Codex] on behalf of shivam.

Issue watch picked up https://github.com/pingdotgg/t3code/issues/32232 and found this PR already owns it, so I am handing off without starting another fix.

At head 746bc9ee473a96ad7152e8fd60b18b8aef52a767, the diff defaults publishing on for managed CLI links and preserves an explicit opt-out. It changes only the CLI and its tests. The issue's separate request for a per-environment warning in mobile Settings > Notifications is outside this diff. Phone delivery remains unverified in the PR's evidence; I did not run additional tests or device verification before the handoff.
