Problem

Password-protected OpenCode servers reject session startup because health checks omit configured credentials and managed session requests omit the resolved password.

Change

Forward nonempty settings passwords to connection setup, then use the connection's resolved password for SDK requests. Blank settings retain managed environment fallback; external servers never inherit local credentials. Reuse the original HTTP authentication regression cases in the existing adapter test file, retaining the real connector and SDK.

Verification

  • Both regression cases failed on main with HTTP 401, then passed after the fix.
  • Blacksmith: 37 focused adapter/environment tests passed; vp run check:changed passed format, lint, knip, affected typechecks (5 packages), and adapter tests (34).
  • Runtime with installed OpenCode 1.19.4: authenticated health check and external/managed adapter session creation passed.
  • Real SDK health, session, and event requests covered over HTTP; managed subprocess replaced only in automated tests.
  • GitHub CI passed build/typecheck, lint, tests, all 8 server shards, and web tests; no failed or pending checks.
  • Two independent code reviews approved db1304a with no findings. Macroscope correctness passed.
  • Review limits: CodeRabbit was rate-limited; Macroscope Effect conventions skipped because its configured Check prerequisite was absent. Macroscope requires human approval for this authentication change.
  • Unverified: full client conversation and model response. No UI changes.

Takeover

Replaces #23384, with thanks to @saphid for the original implementation.

Walkthrough

The adapter now passes the configured server password to connection setup and uses the returned password when creating the SDK client. A live test checks authenticated requests for external and managed OpenCode servers.

openSession passes the configured password to connection setup and uses the connection-provided password for SDK client creation. The live test checks authenticated health, session, and event requests for external and managed servers. It also checks that managed startup occurs only for the managed server.

Explicit managed passwords work, but the new test would not catch a regression in their forwarding. Add the case or accept the coverage gap before merging.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title "fix(opencode): authenticate with the resolved server password" names the main change: OpenCode session startup now authenticates with the password the connection resolves. The raw summary confirms openSession now forwards settings.serverPassword and uses connection.serverPassword for the SDK client. The title is specific and conventional, and it matches the PR objectives.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description follows the template's main sections: Problem, Change, and Verification. Problem and Change are specific. Verification lists focused tests (both regression cases failing with HTTP 401 on main and passing after the fix, 37 focused adapter/environment tests, and a runtime check with OpenCode 1.19.4), and it states what was not verified. The 'Scope and approval' section is missing. It does not link a triaged issue or maintainer-approved discussion. It only mentions that the change replaces #23384. The template requires this section for a bug fix, and the description does not explain why the fix qualifies without prior approval.

Resolution

Add a 'Scope and approval' section. Link the triaged bug issue or the maintainer-approved discussion, including the approval comment. If the change qualifies as a very small, focused fix of an obvious bug, explain why it qualifies without a prior issue or discussion. The PR also notes that Macroscope requires human approval for this authentication change, so that approval should be linked or obtained first.

Approvability

Verdict: Approved at 17a2ffe

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — OpenCode sessions now authenticate using the password resolved for their server, including password-protected local servers. Existing credential resolution and server destinations remain unchanged.

ran vp i and background vp run dev on github/main (2349c81afc) in /home/user/main, then stopped that captured process group before installing and running the exact pr head. used the repository's playwright with /usr/bin/google-chrome, fresh dev state, and a real git repository added through the app. projects, provider settings, threads, and turns were created through the web ui. no mocks, replay provider, fixtures, or demo data.

  • main: with OPENCODE_SERVER_PASSWORD inherited and the settings password blank, a managed opencode turn failed to open. the real server request returned 401 unauthorized.
  • pr: the same prompt with the same managed password fallback returned AUTH_OK. a second turn remembered that token. a managed instance with an explicit settings password also completed a response.
  • external: configured a real password-protected opencode serve at 127.0.0.1:4097, using a different password from the inherited managed password. confirmed the saved url, authenticated inventory, and completed EXTERNAL_AUTH_OK through the client. a follow-up used opencode's native read tool on the real README.md and streamed EXTERNAL_TOOL_OK authentication verification.
  • rejection: an incorrect external password produced the app's "not authenticated" status and "server rejected authentication" message. restoring the correct password restored authenticated inventory and successful turns.
  • neighboring provider: codex gpt-6.1-sol read the same real file using a tool and returned CODEX_OK authentication verification.

Not verified

  • native ios/android, electron, macos/windows, and relay/tunnel connections were not exercised on this linux vm. the changed code is the shared server adapter.
  • opencode conversations used the installed provider's opencode/beam-free model through this vm's real local proxy. other opencode model backends were not exercised. codex used the requested gpt-6.1-sol.
  • the vm's default computer and t3 mcp model-tool catalog exceeded the proxy's 128-tool limit on the first opencode request. disabled the computer mcp and t3* model tools in local opencode configuration for these turns. native file-reading tools were exercised; the complete default mcp tool catalog was not. the original configuration was restored after verification.
  • observed intermittent codex inventory/status timeouts during refresh, although the real codex tool turn completed. this verification does not establish catalog-refresh reliability.
  • no source changes were required, so no new blacksmith run was started; the 29 successful checks above are the existing checks on the exact tested head.

Add a managed settings-password row.

The managed row only tests the environment-password fallback. Add a row with serverPassword: "settings-password" and OPENCODE_SERVER_PASSWORD: "environment-password". Make the fixture expect the settings password for the managed process and authenticated requests. Extend this existing table; do not add a wrapper-level duplicate.
