Thread transfer impact
⚠️ The latest CI run did not produce a thread transfer result for 73a5cbc.
This comment will update automatically after the next completed run.
Drafts and existing threads had different navigation, composer layouts, and offline behavior, producing flashes and inconsistent controls across iPhone, Duo, and iPad.
This uses the thread screen for drafts, keeps project and environment selection in the same stack, aligns the compact composer and expanded controls, adds native iPad sidebar tabs, and keeps queued offline messages at the bottom with their pending state and sidebar selection intact. Environment status is a small offline dot on the draft trigger, with details in the environment picker. Submission and share-import locks apply to the editor, attachments, and hardware-keyboard submit path.
Baseline is main at ee33c4c65df; screenshots use the same saved drafts.

Implemented with GPT-6.1 in the Codex harness.
Attachments expand into a full strip while editing and collapse into compact previews when unfocused. The compact previews are vertically centered in the same 44-point row as the controls. Removal has accessible names. The iPad microphone, cancel and confirmation icons now match the larger controls, and dictation uses the same bottom inset.
Native photo selection, multiple images, removal, text editing and folded/unfolded layouts were exercised. File-token and voice-session behavior are covered by the targeted tests. Real speech recognition is unavailable on these simulators: voice evidence below uses temporary recording/transcribing state fixtures, removed before committing. It verifies layout and transitions, not microphone or recognition accuracy.

Keep the composer bottom inset constant and animate its keyboard offset, avoiding the late safe-area correction after dismissal. Verified the software-keyboard send/collapse with an attachment on folded Duo; mobile typecheck, scoped lint and formatting pass.

Maintainer-requested work, iterated directly with Julius in T3 Code. The maintainer explicitly requested one PR covering the draft/live screen and navigation unification, composer behavior, attachment and voice layouts, offline pending messages, and device verification. This is that combined request, not an unsolicited contribution. No separate issue or public approval comment was supplied; human review is still required before merge.

The shared composer remains editable during flow.submitting and incoming-share transfers, so edits made while enqueueThreadOutboxMessage is pending are cleared by the successful submit without being sent; a failed share-import cancellation can likewise restore over edits made during the transfer. sendBlockedReason disables Send but does not pass the interaction lock to the editor or attachment-removal controls; preserve those locks in the shared composer.

Verdict: Needs Human Approval
Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This PR substantially restructures mobile navigation and draft-to-live thread handling while also changing the shared composer, split-view behavior, offline queuing, and native iOS workspace controls. Its broad cross-platform runtime impact and changed default product experience warrant human review.

When flow.selectedModel is null, this early return leaves the user unable to switch environments or reconnect, so a draft with no usable model cannot recover from this screen. Fixed in d6d95412841: the no-model fallback retains the environment trigger, so it can open the picker and connection details while preserving the local draft.
The environment picker is now available, but the no-model fallback still has no reconnect action or connection-details link. onReconnectEnvironment remains only on the normal ThreadScreenBinding path, so the recovery concern is only partially resolved.
The recovery path is available through the environment trigger retained in the no-model fallback (NewTaskDraftScreen.tsx). It opens NewTaskEnvironment; EnvironmentPickerRow in NewTaskContextPickerScreens.tsx exposes Show connection details and, when disconnected, Reconnect now wired to onReconnectEnvironment. The maintainer explicitly requested a minimal trigger with an offline dot and detailed status/reconnect controls in the environment screen, so duplicating those controls on the draft fallback would contradict that design. The direct ThreadScreenBinding callback is not the only reconnect entry point.

Route sidebar draft actions through handleSelectThreadRoute.
handleNewThreadOnBranch and handleNewThreadInProject call navigation.navigate("Thread", …) directly. The same actions in HomeRouteScreen (Lines 71-78 and 287-293) use selectThreadRoute.
The direct call skips four things:
selectAndroidWorkspace).resolveThreadSelectionOverlayState).replace handling for nested thread routes such as ThreadFiles.setFileInspectorPreferredVisible(false).In split view, starting a draft from a sidebar row while ThreadFiles is focused pushes a draft over the file route. The file inspector also stays open. On Android, the tab and stack reset does not run. CommandPalette (Lines 282 and 315) uses the same direct pattern.
Use the central selector so that every entry point behaves the same way.

Reset the flow when the draft identity changes on the same route.
reset() runs only when NewTaskDraftRouteScreen mounts ([reset] is stable). Several paths change draft params on the existing Thread route key, so the component does not remount:
setParams in handleSelectThreadRoute and createHomeThreadRouteAction.navigate("Thread", …) on a focused Thread route. In those cases the shared NewTaskFlowProvider keeps the previous activeDraftKey, the previous selectedProjectKey, and the screen's creationMetadata.
Trigger: open draft A from the sidebar (draftId: A), then press "New task" or ⌘N.
props.draftId becomes undefined, so the initial-project effect in NewTaskDraftScreen runs.setProject calls carryDraftContentTo. That function calls retargetNewTaskDraft(activeDraftKey) and moves draft A's content to the other project.Remount the draft screen when its identity changes. The ThreadScreenHost outlet keeps the native screen and editor, so a remount does not rebuild them.

✅ Confirmed as addressed by @juliusmarminge
Fixed in d1a219f9db2. Keyed the draft controller by normalized draft identity, including the saved/pending draft, project, environment, branch/worktree and incoming share. This resets its flow and creation metadata on same-route draft changes while retaining ThreadScreenHost. Added identity regression coverage and verified switching between two drafts restores each draft’s own text and attachments on iPad. Validation: 21 focused tests, mobile typecheck, and scoped lint (existing warnings only).

@juliusmarminge Verified the fix in d1a219f9db2. The draft controller now uses the normalized draft identity as its key, while ThreadScreenHost remains mounted. This addresses the stale flow and creation metadata on same-route draft changes.
The regression tests cover draft changes, starting a new draft, project changes, incoming shares, and parameter normalization. I inspected the code and tests; I did not rerun validation.

| 288 | ##### `linking.getPathFromState` |
| 289 | |
| 290 | On Web, React Navigation automatically updates the URL in the browser's address bar to match the current navigation state by serializing the state to a path based on the linking config. You can optionally override the way the serialization happens by providing your own `getPathFromState` function. |

| 292 | If you provide a custom `getStateFromPath`, you should also provide a custom `getPathFromState` to ensure that the parsing and serialization are consistent with each other for Web support to work correctly. |

| 609 | ### Current behavior |
| 610 | |
| 611 | Consider this state: |
| 612 | |
| 613 | const state = { |
| 614 | routes: [ |
| 615 | { |
| 616 | name: "RouteName", |
| 617 | params: { |
| 618 | arrayParam: ["Foo", "Bar"] |
| 619 | } |
| 620 | } |
| 621 | ] |
| 622 | }; |
| 623 | |
| 624 | For this state object, `getPathFromState(state)` returns `/RouteName?arrayParam=Foo&arrayParam=Bar` which is what I expect. |
| 625 | This however: |
| 626 | |
| 627 | getPathFromState(state, { |
| 628 | screens: { RouteName: "routeName" } |
| 629 | }) |
| 630 | |
| 631 | doesn't parse `arrayParam` correctly, and returns `/routeName?arrayParam=Foo%2CBar`. |
| 632 | When I parse this path back to a state object using `getStateFromPath`, I get an incorrect state (arrayParam is not an array anymore, but the items are seperated by comma): |

Use a draft-specific files route when threadId is absent.
openFiles navigates to ThreadFiles without threadId, but ThreadFiles uses the required threads/:environmentId/:threadId/files pattern. The generated path can therefore contain /undefined/. parseActiveThreadPath accepts that segment and enables thread commands for the nonexistent thread.
ThreadFilesTreeScreen.handleSelectFile also navigates to ThreadFile without threadId for drafts. Add a draft tree route and keep draft file selections on draft routes. Do not make the shared thread prefix optional, because that prefix is also used by terminal, review, and other thread routes.

Use startNewTask for the rail "new thread" action.
onNewThread calls navigation.navigate("Thread", { draft: {} }) directly. The Android FAB uses startNewTask instead (HomeRouteScreen Line 206). startNewTask picks a project through newTaskDestination and runs selectAndroidWorkspace. That call selects the threads tab and resets the workspace stack.
The direct call has a consequence on the Settings workspace page. The draft is pushed over SettingsSheet, and the workspace tab state is not switched to threads. The rail can therefore keep "settings" selected while the draft is visible.
AndroidWorkspaceNavigation renders inside AdaptiveWorkspaceContext, so the hook is available.

Apply the hasThread gating to the toolbar Git menu as well.
This change disables "Review changes" and "More" for drafts in useThreadGitHeaderActionItems. threadGitMenuDefinition (Lines 554-568) builds the menu used by ThreadGitControls, and it still ignores props.hasThread.
useThreadHeaderOptions renders <ThreadGitControls … showActionControls /> as a fallback when !layout.usesSplitView && !usesNativeHeaderGlass. On that path, a draft keeps "Review changes" enabled. openReview then navigates to ThreadReview with the draft shell's unsaved threadId.

Fixed in 2846528. Each explicit new-task action now assigns a fresh requestId, including the shared New Task action, sidebar actions, Home and command palette. Release the deferred selection only after the guard has committed disabled. |
Fixed in 0c2f784. Deferred selection now waits for both the checkout and an effect after usePreventRemove commits disabled. Cleanup releases the commit wait if the controller is removed, while still waiting for the actual checkout. Added a regression asserting checkout completion alone cannot release navigation. Also fixed the inline useMemo factory required by React Compiler. Compiler coverage, dependency graph and deferred-navigation tests pass (914 tests across the three targeted files); mobile typecheck and scoped lint pass.
The added effect runs after usePreventRemove clears its JS registry, but its provider’s preventedRoutes state commits on the subsequent render. Thus it does not yet guarantee the guard is committed disabled for native-stack consumers. Please release after that next commit (or observe preventedRoutes no longer containing this route).
Fixed in 4cf2895. The release effect now observes usePreventRemoveContext().preventedRoutes for the current native route and only releases once both checkoutPending and the committed provider guard are false. This replaces the assumption about effect ordering. Validation: 923 tests across compiler coverage, dependency graph, deferred navigation and project selection pass; mobile typecheck and scoped lint pass.

Limit attachment previews to the available row width.
On a narrow phone, three thumbnails plus the editor’s 40% minimum width leave too little room for the picker, full model label, and send control. ✅ Addressed in commits 73a5cbc to 4cf2895
Fixed in 4cf2895. Compact previews are capped at one thumbnail plus an overflow count below 500px row width (three on wider rows). Attachment-only drafts also collapse the model control, and attachments remove the editor’s 40% minimum so controls retain their space. Validation: 923 tests across compiler coverage, dependency graph, deferred navigation and project selection pass; mobile typecheck and scoped lint pass.
@juliusmarminge The supplied code confirms all three layout changes: width-based preview limits, an icon-only model control for attachment-only drafts, and no 40% editor minimum when attachments are present. This addresses the finding.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Keep the current draft’s project when starting another task.
If a user starts a new task from an open draft, this call cannot select that draft’s project: currentProject comes only from a live thread. newTaskDestination then selects projects[0]. With multiple projects, the new draft opens in a different project. Read the current Thread route’s draft project before using the first-project fallback.

✅ Confirmed as addressed by @juliusmarminge
Fixed in 4cf2895. New Task now reads the active Thread route’s draft project and uses the matching catalog project before falling back to the first project. Live-thread project selection is retained. Validation: 923 tests across compiler coverage, dependency graph, deferred navigation and project selection pass; mobile typecheck and scoped lint pass.
@juliusmarminge The supplied code addresses this finding. New Task uses the active draft’s matching catalog project and retains live-thread project priority. Thanks for the validation details.
