Problem

After a delegated child finishes its initial task, queue two follow-ups and promote the second to Steer while the first runs. The promoted task is reported as stopped even though its work continues and completes in the joined turn.

Change

Resolve promoted tasks through their moved user message and the joined run’s restart continuations. Keep task state and MCP status tied to that work, share its result transfer, and acknowledge results even when the promoted message is outside the returned page. Scope ownerless restart holds to the joined run’s continuation chain. Resolve pending approvals from the joined run as well.

Preserves the contributor commits from #19352, with current main merged. Adds a reproducible deterministic runtime fixture using the existing server replay harness and registers its direct invocation as a Knip entry.

Scope and approval

Fixes #19351 GitCafe: https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/issues/19351 Triaged bug via the automated issue flow. Reproduced on current main in the web dev app with Codex.

Verification

Delegated-completion and MCP service suites: 67/67 passed after the test-first joined-approval fix, including delegated and monitor approval cases. Post-main-merge rerun at 8daceaf23b: 67/67 passed. Earlier ownerless restart regression was also test-first.
Committed runtime fixture: 4/4 scenarios passed at 321edbb8bd: delegated and monitor success/failure; running and terminal task/node/item state; shared transfers; negative pagination guards; result-read acknowledgement; repeated recovery.
Runtime artifact index · trace package. Reproduce with node apps/server/scripts/verify-promoted-delegation.ts. Uses real orchestration services and commands, a deterministic provider adapter, and synthetic result messages.
Independent proof-audit rerun at df0337f39e: 4/4 runtime scenarios passed; artifact checksums and identity/transfer traces validated. Proof audit records the remaining client and boundary-case evidence gaps.
Changed-file lint/format and Knip configuration parsing/path validation passed. Scoped typechecking and server-only Knip were stopped under VM resource contention and remain incomplete.
Two independent final full-diff reviews: MERGE from GPT-6.1-Sol and Claude Opus 5.5.

Evidence:

Before: 8acbefefc5, Chrome 154, Linux, 1280×800 CSS pixels, DPR 2, no device emulation. Initial delegation completed; long follow-up ran; another follow-up queued; Steer clicked at 01:42:32.537 UTC. The parent task immediately became stopped while the joined turn kept running and later returned FOLLOWUP_DONE.

Unverified: fixed-client promotion/held-failure/monitor/reconnect recordings, keyboard trigger, queue-held opening, 1440/390 light/dark capture pairs and pixel diffs; browser-host disconnects, VM resource contention and a dev-backend restart failure prevented completion. Actual process restarts, bounded follow-up wait, cancellation/waiting/interrupted controls, Electron and native iOS/Android clients were not exercised. Restart-chain coverage is automated persisted-state coverage.

Implemented with GPT-6.1-Sol and Claude Opus 5.5 through the T3 Code Codex and Claude Code harnesses; reviewed with the same models.

Fixed the promoted-task approval finding in 18e90fc0a2: approval lookup now includes the joined run. Both delegated and monitor regression cases failed before the fix; the two focused suites passed 67/67 afterward.

The webhook finding targets code identical to main, inherited from the pre-squash version of the webhook feature. Merging current main removes those files from this PR’s diff; this fix leaves them unchanged.
