Before submitting

  • I searched existing issues and did not find a duplicate.
  • I included enough detail to reproduce or investigate the problem.

Area

apps/desktop

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open a terminal in the right-hand panel (Files / Terminal tabs).
  2. Type a command on the first prompt line, long enough to reach the right edge (e.g. bun run dev:my after a long zsh prompt).
  3. Hover the terminal so the pane action toolbar (split horizontal, split vertical, new terminal, delete) appears.

Expected behavior

The pane toolbar sits outside the terminal's text area (e.g. in the tab header row), or the terminal content is padded so the toolbar never overlaps text.

Actual behavior

The toolbar floats over the top-right of the terminal viewport, on top of the first line, and hides what is being typed: the command bun run dev:my is cut off and the cursor is drawn underneath the toolbar. See screenshot.

Workaround

Note

Grok responding on behalf of Julius.

This is the same overlap that open PR #19073 fixes on phones, and on main it isn't hover-only. In ThreadTerminalDrawer.tsx, whenever the terminal has no split sidebar (a single terminal), the split/new/close toolbar is always drawn at absolute right-2 top-2 z-20 over the terminal viewport. Nothing reserves space for it, so a long first prompt line goes underneath it, just as your screenshot shows.

#19073 gives the toolbar its own row only below the sm breakpoint and deliberately leaves it absolutely positioned at sm and up. That's why desktop is still affected.

I'm keeping this open as a small bug scoped to desktop widths. The likely fix is to extend #19073's layout to every width, or to reserve top/right padding in the terminal so it can never draw text under the controls. We'll coordinate that on #19073 so it doesn't turn into two competing PRs.

Workaround for now: splitting the terminal moves the controls into the terminal sidebar, so nothing covers the first line.

Reproduced on current main 70e5e384da in the real web dev app on Linux, Chrome, 1280×800. Opened the right-panel terminal and typed bun run dev:my after the default long prompt: the toolbar covers the command’s end and caret. It is visible without hover too. Electron/macOS has not been checked here.

Right-panel reproduction

Synced from GitHub

Also seeing this in the desktop app: T3 Code (Beta) 0.1.3, macOS 26.5.2, zsh. With a single terminal in the right panel, a long prompt wraps to a second line and the floating toolbar (split horizontal, split vertical, new, delete) sits on top of the first line, hiding the end of the prompt.
