Even if it's a minor bug - it infuriates me every time I encounter it. It breaks my muscle memory for no reason

Grok responding on behalf of Julius.

Triage

Thanks for the report and the screenshot, @vertopolkaLF! I reproduced this on current main. It's the post-selection popup, not the right-click menu.

What I found

  • Finishing a left-button selection in the terminal calls showSelectionAction in apps/web/src/components/ThreadTerminalDrawer.tsx, which opens a context menu at the pointer with Add to chat and Copy (terminalSelectionMenuItems), matching your screenshot. The right-click menu offers the same actions plus Paste.
  • On desktop that's a native Electron menu (localApi.contextMenu.show → ElectronMenu.showContextMenu → Menu.popup) with no accelerators. A native menu captures keyboard input until it closes, so Ctrl+C never reaches the terminal. Windows copy is handled by isTerminalCopyShortcut in apps/web/src/terminal/ghostty/surface.ts, which doesn't run while the popup is open.

Workaround for now: click Copy in the popup, or press Escape to dismiss it and then Ctrl+C. Right-click → Copy also works.

Likely fix area

Options include not opening a modal menu on left-button selection (keeping Add to chat / Copy / Paste on right-click), or, if a select-time Add to chat affordance stays, making it non-modal like the chat Cite button so Ctrl+C still goes to the terminal.

A maintainer will decide on the fix direction.

Synced from GitHub

I'm facing the same issue on my Macbook Air M4(macos 27.0.1)

Reproduced the automatic selection menu on current main a50cd989ae in Linux Chromium 154 with the real web dev server and isolated state: printed ISSUE16114_SELECTION_PROBE, then selected it with a left-button double-click. The Add to chat / Copy menu opened after selection. The supplied recording shows the same menu on Windows desktop; Windows native clipboard behavior is not verified here.
