One-click agent Connect and skills, like Spark's#4

opened21h agobyMMichael Rodriguez

Spark lets you connect AI agents in a few clicks. An agents button in the sidebar opens a popover. A setup step sets each account's access (none, read, triage, send). A connect step lists the agents installed on this computer, each with its own setup. Spark also gives agents skills that teach them to use its CLI.

spark-rs has the first half (PR #2): the per-account access levels in Settings > Agents, and spark-cli mcp. Connecting is still manual. Settings > Agents shows a command to copy for Claude Code, Codex, Hermes and other MCP agents, and there are no skills.

This issue covers:

  • a Connect step that detects the agents on this computer and adds spark-rs to each one with a click (and removes it again);
  • the agents popover in the sidebar, like Spark's;
  • skills that teach agents how to use spark-rs's tools well.

Triage Notes

What we've established so far:

  • The access levels, the agent connection to the running app, spark-cli mcp and the six tools are in main (PR #2). Copyable connect commands in Settings > Agents stand in for one-click Connect until this lands.
  • This was held back on purpose: a separate reverse-engineering pass is looking at how Spark's own Connect step and skills work, so spark-rs can match them rather than guess.

What we still need from you (@michael):

  • The reverse-engineering findings: for each agent Spark supports, what its Connect step changes (which config file or command, and what entry it adds), and how it detects that the agent is installed.
  • What Spark's skills contain and where it installs them for each agent.
  • Which agents to support first (Claude Code, Codex and Hermes are the ones named so far).
