# Repository stars

Every repository header shows a **Star** button with the current star count
next to the clone popover.

- Signed-in users click **Star** to star the repository and **Starred** to
  remove their star. The button and count update immediately and settle on the
  server's answer; if the write fails, the button reverts and shows a short
  error under it.
- Signed-out visitors see the count; clicking the button takes them to sign in.
- The people icon beside the button opens `/{owner}/{repo}/stargazers`, a page
  listing everyone who starred the repository (handle, display name, and the
  date they starred it), 50 at a time with a **Load more** button.
